  1. I get grossed out when things are described as "cheesy" in my textbook. Yuck..
  2. - I never said it was easy. I'm sure it is very hard and stressful and alot of information. I just don't think the two should be compared. That's all. I don't compare myself to a Vet Tech program student. I admire Vet Techs..I couldn't do it! I love animals :)
  3. Study every day. Even if its just rereading or listening to lectures after you get home. Don't get behind! I only read what the professors tell us to read also. Or if I dont understand I dig a little deeper. Take breaks within studying..it helps me focus. I disagree with the study group comment though. If you can find a good group then they are wonderful. We set ground rules for our groups though so it all depends on how you like to study. But overall..stay organized and study. You'll do fine and enjoy it!
  4. Ugh, my friend is trying to get into Vet Tech school (yes there is a school..you dont have to go though haha). She LOVES to compare what she does to what I do in actual nursing school. So annoying.
  5. Thanks everybody! They've uploaded old lectures to itunes and having us study those and moved back Mondays test. Thank goodness we have all weekend to get back on track. Stay warm everybody!
  6. Just tell her that you love her and are looking out for her. I had a friend who was in a similar situation and I just told her the truth. Its hard but she needs to know this stuff if she doesnt know it already. Tell her to do some more research also if she still doesnt understand. Good luck.
  7. Ask yourself questions as you're reading. It helps you apply what you're reading. Take tons of NCLEX and chapter questions. Rationalize through each question you do and talk it out. Join a study group, I LOVE mine and we work awesome together. Go speak to your professor. Our professors say if its not "clicking" then go talk to them and they can try and figure out whats wrong. When taking your test, cover the answers. It helps you understand the question without getting distracted by the answers. Underline the question and focus on what its asking. Highlight or circle key words (best or first, etc.). I hope this helps. Good luck!
  8. Hello fellow Nursing Students! I have a quick question. We've been hit hard with ice/snow and the roads have about an inch or two of ice and it's not suposed to get above freezing till late Friday. My school (and tons for that matter lol) has been closed since Tuesday. This means we've missed a total of almost 5 hours of lecture and 3 hours of skills lab. Friday isn't looking too promising either. Has anybody else experience this much weather cancellations in nursing school? Our professors keep telling us to relax and stay warm but it's hard to not start panicing over how much we've missed. Thank you!
  9. Awesome! Congrats!
  10. I just finished my second week of nursing school and have my first test on Monday so I might not be too much of help. But we did have a test taking lecture on friday and they gave us some great tips on how to take a nursing test: - Underline the question. Find out what the question is asking and underline it. - Highlight the key words. Ex: best, early, first, immediately. - Cross out the distracters. - Circle the issue or the event. Avoid asking you self.."well, what if?" Focus ONLY on the information in the question and read EVERY word and make a decision about what the question is really asking. Read EVERY answer choice. Trust yourself, don't second guess your answers. Get Fundamentals Success by Nugent and Vitale. Its great so far. Good luck to you and everybody else!!
  11. I'm with you! I start tomorrow :) Good luck this semester! And Congrats on getting in!
  12. Good question. I'm wondering the same thing! I start on Wednesday and I take just a daily multivitamin and echinacea for immune system. But I would like to hear what everybody is doing to stay healthy.
  13. Thank you iluvpatho! Yes I'm VERY excited! Good luck to you as well :)
  14. Ah! Thank you! It feels so good knowing I'm not alone in feeling nervous. :)
  15. @texasmum - good job! I'm pretty nervous haha. @iluvpatho - Yes, I think I read your thread! It helped me too. So I guess I'm not alone in the feeling so nervous?! I know I wont be able to sleep at all next week. I guess I'm jsut ready for it to start so I don't have to wait anymore haha.
  16. Hello fellow nursing students! I start my first semester of nursing school next week . I was just wondering if its normal to feel really nervous? I'm pretty nervous but also very excited. How did you feel when starting school?
  17. Hey guys! I'm just wondering how you are liking Grayson's program? I start in January! Any opinions would be great :)
  18. I had to work very hard in my pre-reqs. It wasn't easy at all but like you, I had all the time in the world to study and was supported financially and every other way possible by my family. So I did get a 4.0 in my pre-reqs and got into a program. I suggest you take General Biology and Chemistry (which ever you want, I took Intro) to get your feet wet in science. Plus those sciences are the backbone to every other science you'll ever take. Get tutors and make study groups if you need to. And like you said, take it slow and study and learn. Good luck to you!
  19. Thank you everybody! I heard getting a rolling backpack is a must. I want to save my back :)
  20. Hey guys! I start nursing school in January and I'm on the hunt for a rolling backpack! Does anybody have any opinions or recommendations for a nice rolling backpack?? Thank you for your help!!
  21. Hello dcRn2b, I know this thread was from a while ago, but I was wondering how you liked Grayson?? I start in January! Thank you :)
  22. Hello everybody! I'm starting Grayson's nursing program in January. I was wondering how you guys like the program?? Any advice would be appreciated :)
  23. Hello! I just got accepted into a nursing program and I start in January! I just wanted to see when everybody decided what type of nurse they wanted to be. Did it take you awhile to choose? Did you know where you wanted to work before/during/after nursing school? I would love some input!! So far I'm thinking about either Peds or ICU/CCU. I guess I won't know until nursing school huh? Thank you!
  24. Just keep looking into schools! Don't give up. Retake the HESI at the same school or at another school. If it takes you longer than you thought, thats okay. I finally got into a program a year after I anticipated. Just don't give up. Theres a program out there that wants you!
  25. I heard if you record your lectures that helps alot. Just buy a recorder and relisten to your lectures as you do things around the house. You'll be studying and you dont even know it!
