:caduceus: I don't work for the VA, but I work at a Military Hospital. I cannot tell you enough how wonderful my job is. I find most of my co-workers to much happier than at the previous civilian hospital I worked at. There is such an air of respect and politeness. I am a LPN and not once has a Doctor, Physicians Assistant, Nurse Practitioner or a Registered Nurse ever made me to feel beneath them. They treat me like we are all part of a team. I

Be too old! Gosh no! The ones with the knee and back problems have been doing it since their 20's and 30's. Think how we can do it till we retire. Besides as of today, I am 43, just graduated :mortarboard: in June, sat for my NCLEX this morning and already have a job in Med/surg in a Hospital "my dream job". So go for it. You will never regret it. I haven't!

Thank you for bringing this question up, I too have noticed it, not only in our textbooks, but also my instructor using this term. Some how I feel a loss of compassion using this term, it feels so cold saying "client". I know that medicine has become strictly a business but did we have to resort to the term "client". If so, do they get a money back "guarentee" if not satisfied.

:Snowman1:Wow, a classmate and I were having lunch today and were talking about how we both do this, she has been having problems with anemia and has started taking Iron. I have been indulging in the ice too, I love the ice that comes out of the ER ice machine. I am on an ambulance team and love to get ice when we go to this one hospital. Your right, it's like little turds. I will have to check into the anemia possibility too, I have been extremely tired lately. :Snow:

when I go to clinicals (I am a student) I leave the stones at home. Christmas, my husband bought me a very inexpensive gold band at walmart. I am very happy to leave the good one at home. I too was taught that we could spread micros in between the stones.

I am going to book a cruise for my husband and I and our three kids. It will be our reward for all we went through to get me here. I also plan on buying either a canoe or kyack for stress relief. It is something I always dreamed of having.

Hi, I was just interested in regard to an experience I had in clinical the other day. I am an LPN student and we had a pt w/a prolapsed rectum. This pt is a retired RN and wanted everyone of the students to see what had happened to her rectum. She said that not every one gets to see one or have heard of it. I gather this is not a common occurance, can anyone share what they know? Thanks!

I too am in a LPN program, I started this past September. I am enjoying being a student at 41 and am doing well. We too have had alot of confusing and conflicting information in regards to our program. They brought in a new "Head of the program". She is making changes but it gets frustating when you sign up for one thing and mid stream they make changes which you didn't bargain for. We all forge ahead and are just aiming for the same goal, to get through the program and graduate. There is not much else you can do because they sort of "gotch ya"! The thing that makes up for it all is that we have a very driven, excellent instructor. Some people don't get her but if you recognize what she is trying to do in turning out top notch students than you will survive. Good Luck!

Oh! I sooooooooo don't feel alone anymore when it comes to the dentist. I avoid them with all my might. I have a horrible phobia when it comes to going to the dentist thanks to my mom (dentures on the top of her mouth because of her phobia and putting it off). I swore I wouldn't be like her when it came to this and here I am at 41 heading for bridges and dentures. Money also has alot to do with this, I have thrown approximately $4500.00 into my son's mouth. I also make sure all three of my kids get their regular cleanings. Don't want to continue the phobia another generation. As for the other end I am religious about keeping my appointments. Just had my yearly and PAP in December and my mammogram two weeks ago. I have a big problem with dental care not being included under medical care. If your teeth are unhealthy doesn't that affect the rest of your health. Isn't there a correlation between plaque and potentional problems with the heart. Wouldn't it be wiser for the insurance companies to cover cleanings to avoid thousand upon thousands of dollars of medical bills over heart issues. It just makes me wonder.

I am a student in an LPN program and we were going through our skills book and one of the skills was for administering a douche. Does that even get done anymore and if so, what for? My fellow students and I were wondering. thanks

I just started this past September at the age of 41, will graduate at 42 and 3/4. Alot of the woman in my class are my age or older, some near 50. How old are you going to be if you don't do it. I have children 17, 16 and 13. My kids are so proud of me. They will gain a respect for you for doing so. Good luck:Snowman1:

along with being a student nurse, I drive for our local ambulance corp. We have seen more motorcycle accidents then we care too. You know what we refer to them as "Organ Donors". Need I say more...

I am originally from New Jersey, moved up to Orange County, New York nine years ago. My husband and I are thinking about moving to Pennsylvania after our youngest graduates.

I will be entering an LPN program September 2,. I had to take a preadmission test. I will be attending a vocational school that has an LPN program although you can go through local colleges too. good luck
