I have been impersonated-Input please
Being a victim of fraud and collection agencies trying to hunt me down for bills, etc. that aren't even mine, I would say pursue this for sure. Sadly, crediting ratings, equifax, etc. are such a joke.. if I was looked up it would currently show that I'm some jerk that doesn't pay their bills, yet everyone who personally knows me, know that I'm a person of integrity and these bogus credit ratings, etc., reflect the opposite of who I actually am (that's all in the process of getting resolved with an attorney for me right now) so yes, please, don't risk your hard work..

Why on earth does no one make eye contact?
Something that seems to help with eye contact (and I've noticed this in a large variety of social groups) is to give a friendly smile, sometimes say a hello to initiate/ "break the ice"

Patients who come to the ER in labor and do not know they were pregnant?
I've heard of pregancies happening not only with vasectomies, but also, a close friend of mine had a tubal ligation years ago. Her only child wanted a baby brother so bady, so the parents told him to pray. Apparently he prayed hard, because less than a year later his little brother was delivered

ER abuse was encouraged last night
^^^^^^ Coming from my background, originally starting in EMS, it was probably not the best decision I ever made doing a 'self assessment'. This all happened 2 weeks ago. Good news on a personal level, I'm 100% back to normal, fixed my bike, and in fact, bicycled about 23 miles today with no adverse problems (though I'm feeling overly hesitant when it comes to crossing by driveways, etc) Bad news, never did get hold of the driver, I have no lic plate #, no insurance info, nadda. I know I made a mistake on that one but didn't even think of it at the time. I explained to my PCP about the auto and insurance issue and having it wrote up as "bicycle accident" and not MVA. So far, so good. Looking back, had this bike vs. auto happened to someone else, I would say without a doubt a spineboard, collar the transport to the ED would have been in order, then a head CT at a minimum given the MOI and cracked helmet. It sure is easier to rationalize this all after the fact. Anyways, thanks all for the well wishes. Fortunately this little life incident was only a small bump in the road.

Patients who come to the ER in labor and do not know they were pregnant?
Isn't a patient coming in not knowing they're pregnant, much like these people who get foreign objects "stuck up there" but have no idea how it happened? I see a lot of similarities in these scenarios

ER abuse was encouraged last night
I thought I better 'check in' for all who read/responding here. The good news is the fact I'm healthy and healing up quickly. It's nice when your friends are medically oriented (in my case either LPN's, RN's, EMT's and Ski Patrollers("wilderness EMT's"). A few of them were pretty concerned after talking to me on the phone Saturday(2 dys ago) and then seeing how bruised up I was. I'm so lucky to have caring wonderful friends; yesterday, Sunday morning, they had arranged for me to be seen at a different Urgent Care center, called the doc at home, and able to do a couple xrays and treat there without running up a horrendous bill. Longer story and details than I feel up to writing at the moment, but I am doing as well as could be considering what happened. I haven't needed any Rx painkiller this morning, but going agressive on alternating ice and heat, and OTC antiinflammatories of Ibuprofen. I'll try and post more updates another time. I'm going to lay down, continue to give my body the rest it needs, but just wanted to check in and let all know I'm doing pretty good overall, in good spirits!

ER abuse was encouraged last night
I've been having 10/10 pain all day and was pretty frightened when I peed blood. A closefriend who gets Rx's for generic soma and lortab brought me a coupe and they're helping get me though the pain part, but i'm increasingly concenned that maybe I should go to the ER and have some jerk 'treat and street' then have the balls to send a bill for them doing nothing *sigh*Maybe's i'm not thikcing clearly as norma. Gonna head down for now. nite nite

ER abuse was encouraged last night
:angryfire I couldn't believe this one, but my true story here from last night brings a point home of why there are some problems with "the system" This happened to me last night, no joke: Background: I bicycle to work and back quite often for exercise, save on gasoline, etc. My employer carries decent insurance on me with $20/copay for office/urgent care ("doc in the box") visits. Yesterday, I was peddling my bicycle home and was hit by a car. Thought not my fault, and the young (maybe 19 or so) driver just didn't see me, drove into me from a driveway in front of a fast food place, and I got splattered out in the middle of the road. The girls were VERY nice young ladies, and ironically, are going to be attending their year in the nursing program at the local college. They(driver and her passenger who saw me, and thought her friend/driver saw me) were crying, and all in all, it was just a sincere accident. I'm bruised up, but ice, antiinflammatories, rest, and I'll be okay. Bike was unridable and too broken after that, and the hood/bumper of the car broke my helmet. Maybe a mild concussion going on, but no LOC or concerning sx's in that regard. Well, my point on this topic- I called my father (I carry a cell phone always except on the job) who was at his work, had him come pick me and the broken bike up and take me to my house. I decided it would be a good idea to go over to local urgent care/after hours clinic in town. I figured I have medical insurance, and the side of my body impacted is swollen/hurting, so getting checked out wouldn't be a bad idea considering what happened. I drove myself to the clinic. The lady at the urgent clinic says that because an automobile had been involved she couldn't accept my insurance and that they would need cash up front if I wanted to be seen. WTF, no way am I going to pay some exorbant amount to be told to take aleve, use ice, and do what I know to. I have concern of an orthopedic injury to the knee, but that's going to wait for my PCP Monday. The lady said I should go to the ER. I told that it seems like a rather huge waste of resources since I wasn't having a heart attack or something. I said "well if I bleed to death in my sleep, maybe you'll change your policies" I left, went home and just laid in a cool bath with ice packs on my hurt areas. Scary incident, though I'm very thankful it was me and not some little kid that might have got killed or something. Fortunately, though hurting, I'm okay considering, but rather disgusted at how they were encouraging me to waste resources at the local emergency room.

What was the MOST ridiculous thing a patient came to the ER for?
I'd mentioned my own personal story elsewhere, but on the lines of people being in ER for unecessary stuff; such as the time I was in (due to traumatic injuries/fractures which ended up in a several week hospitalization at the time - healed up with no adverse sequelae fortunately). What disgusted me was being in excruciating pain, and watching a kid with conjunctivitis (pink eye). Hearing the kid do an eye test while I was laying there disgusted me. Some of the ridiculous reasons people go in are worse when your a patient with an actual legit problem. Of note, the pink eye kid, roughly 8 years old or so, obviously stable and the paranoid parent could/SHOULD have taken him to the local 'doc-in-the-box'/after hours care place.

Foreign Objects in Body Cavities
- Funniest injury you have ever seen.....
A nominee for "funniest" injury... women came in with cc of nipple pain. Turns out she decided to get her nipples pierced for her 65th birthday. Considering the age and nature of the complaint, everyone thought it was quite amusing- Interesting - new "bedside manners" test for med students -
You're still talking about docs here, not donuts, right? :wink2: My 2¢ on personality testing- I'd say some of that depends on the specialty a person is going in to. I have run in to doctors (even from the standpoint of being a patient a couple times before) where there was one doctor(orthopedist) years ago who genuinly cared; came in to the hospital on his day off to check on me, ask about life in general, and took a few minutes of his own time. For an unrelated ailment some time later, I had a doctor who was more concerned about lab tests results all the time and that was it. Unless I've missed sometihng above- the original question pertained to opinions to these tests prior to admissions. I personally would not be for it. I know in situations such as job interviewing, etc in the past, I've always been super nervous when appying or trying for any job, but by the grade of God from both current and past employers, I've been able to prove every time I'm the ideal candidite if given the chance. For those who do lack bedside manner, maybe a communications class of some type. This is getting longer than I planned on. Hope I did not offend anyone- Scripts
- Eat Before You Get Here!
Either a kudo's to the food services of hospitals nationwide is in order, meaning the food has gotten better compared to the bland yicky stuff I've heard people complain about from years ago, or these patients have never been to a fancy resturant and really have that bad of taste It's simply amazing how the offer of a folley changes their mind. "Nor should they ever post anything in a forum or some lay person might be offended"- hostile chargenurse
Are there other staff you are a little closer to? Perhaps best thing is as a group complain about her, plus others who "think you're like her" may realize otherwise. My first impression from reading the post about this CN is that she's extremely burnt out from her job, and unfortunately the snippy sarcastic attitude is how she's 'dealing' with it.- Reducing misuse of Emergency Departments!
Yes and no..... the issue with "doc-in-the-box"es is they usually require payment up front.. where people can go to the ER and get services for "free":angryfire- The "Queen and her son" of Frequent Flyers
In additional to education on how to use/not to abuse the system, and hygeine techniques for all our sake! :chuckle- The "Queen and her son" of Frequent Flyers
I come from EMS and used to be the one who delivered some of these FF who tested our patience too :chair: (sorry I brought 'em in, I had to!) In a HIPPA compliant way, I'll try and post a few for ya'lls enjoyment.. "Stan" (not his real name) had a similar nick to go with it of "Stan, stan, the diabetic man". This guy was a FF, with family calling emergency services at least 3 times per week. Everytime dispatch gave the address, we all knew what it was... "Stan" with his blood sugar around 30, swinging, incomprehedibly mumbling, etc. The episodes were brought on by him not eating(by his own choice.. he was living in a nice home with a fully stocked fridge),not checking bs's, etc. It was a great day when he got back to "normal" and refused transport. How many FF's has everyone seen who's C/C is "anxiety". Uhmm... I imagine all us would have some anxiety when recieving multiple bills for prior transport and ER services from the last anxietal attack. While doing ER clinics (for EMS, had to take VS, read strips, etc) one kid was triaged in after an amusingly failed suicide attempt... somehow, I doubt 30 tablets of Vitamin C will do the trick, though I bet his urine was healthy for a few days.- Reducing misuse of Emergency Departments!
i think i may have the solution for this one *says in a sarcastic voice* every town has frequent fliers and er abusers...and every town has a walmart, or wm wishing to build in their area. wm stores sell so much already such as automotive stuff, do oil & tire changes on cars, have gas stations, groceries, and then some. how about every time wm wants to build a new store, they're required to build and staff a walmart er dept. just think.. people could have near syncopal episodes, be taken to the side of the building to the "walmart emergency department," and they wouldn't need to worry about packing a suitcase of clothing, toiletries and other personal items, there's a food place like a mcdonalds usually, there's a pharmacy and/or otc stuff like tylenol, motrin, etc for the untreated fevers, bandaids for those papercuts, creams for rashes, and even an automated blood pressure machine. the public could become educated and have resources for items - Funniest injury you have ever seen.....
