  1. I like the idea of cookies. I am struggling to find a preceptor in my area. I live in NC and the major universities have already booked most of the nurse practitioners around here. I am a student at Walden.
  2. Has anyone purchased books?
  3. Who is attending the on-campus orientation?
  4. I registered for my classes as well. Now, I need to seriously speak with someone in the financial aid department!!
  5. I plan on attending on campus orientation too. Make sure we officially meet each other. Lol

  8. Me too. Who's in the WHNP program?

  10. Hello Ladies, I have been reading the posts. I am pretty much in the same conditions as you all. If I find anything new, I will let you know.

  12. Interview complete. Now I am joining you guys in the wait game. Oh the agony of waiting. ....
  13. After reading that everyone had had their interview, I was doubtful. I am interviewing today for the Women's Health NP for Aug 2015

Thanks for the respondes everyone. I should have been clearer about my question. I was asking how long does pitocin last once mixed and not spiked. The reason I asked, We nurses on our unit have noticed, if we hang a bag of pitocin that had been mixed greater than 24 hours for induction, the labor is long and with primigravidas, they may never reach labor. Also with postpartums, if the pitocin was mixed greater than 24 hours, they tend to bleed more. In both cases, once we change the bags to a newly mixed bag we get the results that are expected. We have talked to our pharmacy, but they state, there is no expiration date once its mixed (with the exception from the manufacturer). We even have an OB doctor that agrees with us and he too has searched for literature and was unable to find supporting information. But, we as nurses, see the difference, because we work with the product on a day to day bases. Have any of you guys noticed this as well?
  17. I totally agree with you, Matilda!!! This is the way, I bond with my pts. and I have them requesting me over and over. Even with other deliveries they still request me b/c of my bonding techniques. Kyrshamarks, maybe this is not the field for you....#justsaying#
  18. I think you had excellent judgement about decreasing the pitocin. Great job! I wish, as a new grad, you had the opportunity to check the pt also. Maybe then, the two of you would have realized that there was a discrepancy in the vag exams. Even with the disappointment of only being 6cm, I think you handle the situation like a true labor and delivery nurse! Keep up the good work!!

Does anyone know how long oxytocin (Pitocin) will last once mixed with LR. We do a concentration of 10mu in 500ml of LR and 40mu in 1,000ml of LR. Please help.
  20. This means you have compassion! It also means that you may be getting yourself too involved with your patients. I cry, sometimes, even after 10 years and 400+ deliveries! This feeling may go away, alittle, after you are off orientation. Then, you won't have time to concentrate on crying because, you will be so busy trying to stay on top of your charting while providing excellent bedside support to the pt and her family. :0)
  21. I hope I don't offend anyone but, THROW YOUR BIRTH PLAN AWAY BECAUSE YOU ASKING FOR A STAT C-SECTION. 10+ experience in Labor and Delivery as an RN. Good luck!!
  22. Thanks, I will search now!:)
