  1. I don't know of this is the best thing to do but I sleep from about 10 am-4pm on the days I work. Like others said I like to be on a normal schedule on my days off. So when coming to a day off I sleep only about 2-3 hours maybe 4 just so I am not exhausted and then sleep a normal night that night
  2. Can you explain to me why med/surg is so bad Ltc is really all I have worked because I can't get a job in acute care. So I really would like to hear your opinion and anybody else's on what the pros and cons of each field is. Thanks
  3. Is acute care easier since there is less patients
  4. I just started a new job in a nursing home and I am having a hard time. I have about 26 residents to take care of and I basically spend the whole time giving meds. I have no time for treatments or documentation. All my documentation usually gets done after my shift is over. They also expect us to check each medication 3 times before giving it to the patient. How am I supposed to do that? I hardly have time to check it once. They also wonder why so many patients have pressure ulcers. I can tell you why. It's because we have so much to do that there is no time to turn and re-position patients. Any advice and encouragement is really appreciated.
  5. right now I sleep from about 9-3 or 4 but I am always tired so I think I need to change it. I do have family but they usually don't bother my sleep schedule.
  6. I just started a 11p-7a shift in a LTC facility and I am having a hard time adjusting. I am always tired and can't seem to get into a routine. I have only been working for about a week but I don't know how I can go on. I said when I started I will do this for a year and then look for a new job in a hospital, but I don't know if I will last a year. I can use any suggestions you may have for surviving the night shift.
  7. I finally got a job! After 5 months of searching I got a job in a nursing home. Its not my dream job but I will take it for the experience. My advice to everyone looking for jobs is to give your resume to everyone you know. I gave my resume to so many people. This job I got from giving my resume to one person who gave it to someone else who gave it to the nursing home. Just spread your resume to everyone you know because you never know who will connect you to a job. Good luck.
  8. haven't heard of it specifically but maybe it is like an employee health nurse
  9. I like greys anatomy or buttersoft both are very comfortable
  10. I am sure this has already been asked but I couldn't find it. Is an online RN to BSN program inferior to a regular school?
  11. I think you should go straight for your BSN. I have a ADN and I am having a lot of difficulty finding a job. I have heard that there are some places that most nurses only have and ADN so unless where you live is one of those places I would suggest going for the
  12. Wow! thanks everyone I may have a job offer in one of these 2 areas. It looks to me that it is almost unanimous to go for the PACU. If they give me the job and a choice I will go for that.
  13. I have been looking for more then 2 months and have only one interview for a job that I knew I wasn't going to take. I didn't send them my resume, I gave it to a friend who gave it to someone else who gave it to them (I think). I have tried going into places and handing them my resume but no one wants to take it. They say to go online and submit it there, with an application. They also say that you shouldn't contact them and that if they are interested they will contact you. I am trying to be more then just another resume but no one will talk to me so I cant do that. Any suggestions.
  14. kinda the same if it is an overnight camp... lot of homesick kids that are not really sick. of course done make any assumptions and risk the kids health
  15. In my camp one of the staff members called the infirmary the infirmatory. so we called ourselves infirmarologists
  16. bargraphix replied to CampEMT's topic in Camp
I know the summer is over and this is too late for you but... I had the same job in a camp and was wondering that also. (I was officially an RN the last week or 2 as I past NCLEX a few weeks before the end). When the health inspector cam he asked me how I give meds. I told him I check the 5 rights, blah blah blah. And he said "then..." me:" uh.. i give it to them...?" him: well you are an emt you cant administer meds" me:"...." him: "here is how it officially works: you are supposed to check make sure its the right med, patient, etc. then you it it on the counter and let them open the bottle themselves and take" so we are just observing them take it. that is how they get around it and can let EMT "give out meds" BTW I thought he was gonna shut down the camp because I got that question wrong but he was really nice about it
  17. Update: this is the weirdest job I have heard of. I went for an interview even though I was pretty sure I wasn't going to take the job. They told me what this job is. They said that I would be going to people's houses and doing a "No-Hands-on assessment". Meaning I would not touch the patient. I would have to ask a lot of questions and observation. But NO touching the patient. They are hired by insurance companies to (I think) assess what services theses people need. I didn't become a nurse to not touch patients. And how can you do a good assessment without touching the patient??
  18. That is actually my main concern that if I have any questions it would be hard to figure out what I should do since I wouldn't have another co-worker down the hall to ask.
  19. I have been looking for a job for about two months after passing my boards. A few days ago I received a call from a home healthcare company saying they would like me to come in for an interview. I really don't know so much about home health care and I wanted to hear everyone's opinion on the pros and cons of it. Thanks so much
  20. I agree with Wrench party 100% My teacher is a horrible lecturer. She is boring and cant teach. My wife who is a teacher listened to one of my classes that I had recorded and was telling me all of the bad teaching habits. just one example i can think of now is that she would say "any questions, good" then go on without letting anyone answer. However this same teacher is an amazing clinical teacher. I had her for clinicals and I learned a lot from her.
  21. My school is not yet accredited by the NLN. They do have canidate status. Is this going to hurt me when I have to look for a job? it is also an associates degree so if it will hurt me will going to an accredited bsn program help? Thanks
  22. I am still in school but people used to ask me what I am in school for and when I told them they would give me a funny look and say oh you are going to be a male nurse. I always wanted to say (as bill engval would say) nope gonna try to be a female one... heres your sign
  23. I add I am still a student, but I want the hustle and bustle of a busy ER. I think that it will be good for me because I will have many patients with different problems.
  24. once again i havent looked into it but as an emt wouldnt they have the scene management and other things necessary to be a paramedic?
  25. that was what i was told didnt look into it more than that can you explain what you mean by no
