  7. Hi Finally2008...I sent you a private message. CONGRATS on your upcoming graduation!
  8. Hi there...hope this dream will become a reality for you. Best Wishes!
  9. Hello...I was researching some information about earning the RNC credential. CCPR (The Center for Certification Preparation and Review) has a website where one can order online practice examinations, examination study workbooks and EFM casebooks. The website is www.ccprnet.org. Hopefully this might be of some help to you. Best Wishes:nuke:
  10. Seasons Greetings :Holly2: I am a Mother/Baby nurse and have been for one year now...love it! On occasion I do Newborn nursery, but with our unit...the nursery nurse is second on deliveries. I am not comfortable with the deliveries yet so...I always have someone attend deliveries with me. My hope is to learn Antepartum next. When I work Mother/Baby...we can have up to 5 couplets.
  11. You are welcome Luvelyone! missfitness226...I sent you a private message on your questions. Have a good day!
  12. Hi Missy...I'll do my best to try to help you with how things worked at the first hospital I worked at upon graduation from nursing school. 1. The probationary period was 90 days. Upon completion of the 90 days...I received a formal written evaluation. 2. I had a preceptor for 16 weeks. I will say that I had at least 3 preceptors during this time, but truly felt that each one had great knowledge on my first unit. Some folks I know who graduated with me had only one preceptor at other hospitals, but...I rolled with what I had. 3. My first place of employment had a "formal" mentor program. This was great as I was able to call my mentor anytime I needed to for support and encouragement. She worked on the night shift as well and if it were a night where I could leave my floor for about 10 minutes...I would go and see her as well. 4. I started off on a Med-Surg unit. I did this for four months and then happily went to my present place of employment where I am a Mother/Baby RN. I love it. I will tell you during those four months of Med-Surg...I saw more than I could have imagined, but truly always wanted to be a Mother/Baby RN and I jumped at the chance when another hospital offered me a position in that unit. Many told me to work Med-Surg first to gain the experience. I can only tell you that Med-Surg was not for me, but I was grateful for the short time that I spent there. Many units now will take new grads in various specialty areas. I have several former classmates that went directly to ER, ICU, Cardiac and L&D have never given a second thought to doing Med-Surg first. Hope this helps!
  13. CONGRATULATIONS!!! I was waiting for your "pass" post!!!:balloons:
  14. One of my favorite gifts was a Cross pen with my name and RN engraved on it. Things Remembered also has a nice "RN" emblem Cross pen that can be engraved. Congrats to you and your new nurse!
  15. Please also try www.nursingthings.com they have stethoscope lights and a variety of other items. The customer service is wonderful.
  16. Keeping you in prayer Kayla...I KNOW that you will see "pass" shortly!
  17. I'll be truthful Marcene...I REALLY DON'T KNOW! You see...I covered up the part of the screen that would reflect the number of the question with the white erasable board that I was given. I will tell you that it took me 1 hour and 15 minutes to take the NCLEX-RN (including the tutorial). All my friends seem to think that meant I had 75 questions. Only the Lord knows...:wink2:
  18. Hi Marcene. I did all of the Q bank questions with Kaplan as well as the Question Trainer tests. BELIEVE ME...I understand your being nervous as I was there just last week! YES...I found Kaplan questions VERY helpful. PLEASE though...do not get hung up on your scores with the Kaplan questions. I know of other people who passed the NCLEX-RN with scores in the high 50's - low 60's. It is important to review and understand the rationales. Best Wishes to you Marcene.
  19. CONGRATULATIONS:balloons:
  20. THANK YOU! Please know...you are NEVER too old. I will have my dream career as a Mother/Baby nurse. At the birth of each of my two sons, when my nurse left the room, I would think to myself..."Wish I had that career". Giving thanks to God...I WILL have it! There are many "Non-Traditional" students out there. I studied for the NCLEX-RN for 8 weeks. I took a Sylvia Rayfield Review Course, purchased the NCSBN on-line review course and did Kaplan questions. I think I was well prepared for it. Best Wishes to you!
  21. I have visited this site since I began nursing school in 2004. I just wanted to say "Thanks" to EVERYONE for all the support. I have enjoyed reading the posts and learning more about the profession that I have wanted to be in since the age of 7. Special thanks to those of you who have answered my private messages as well. God bless you all! :wink2:
