  1. Coffee Addiction

I cannot make it through the day without at least 2-3 caffeinated drinks whether it be coffee, Rockstar, etc.
  2. Dealing with nosy family members.

I work in the ER and it seems like patient's family members are always wondering around curious about what's going on with everyone else. They walk around and look into other patients rooms, listen to report from medics/fire, and are especially curio...
  3. Pt refusals

I helped care for a pt post liver tx. He did absolutely NOTHING to help himself. Refused to get up, try to walk, and fought to keep his foley in, etc. I know this is incredibly mean, but everytime I went in there all I could think was "what a wast...
  4. skirts

I do not wear a skirt. I am a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, so skirts really aren't my thing lol. I have seen a few people wear skirts where I use to work, one was a CNA who always wore a skirt, it looked like it was made of the same material as ...
  5. Dealing with nosy family members.

It seriously boggles my mind. I couldn't imagine just wondering around an ER looking to see what other patient's are doing. I don't get why people think it's ok to do that. Whenever we get an ambulance in, it always gets people's attention. With...
  6. Would you feel ok as a patient at your own hospital?

I would definitely recommend anyone/everyone I know to go to my hospital. The nurses and docs are great, they teach me something new pretty much everyday. It would depend on what was wrong with me if I would go in or not. Laceration, broken bone, ...
  7. Advice - I'll need a meal tray too

The meal tray thing always drives me crazy. Especially when people get discharged and then ask if they can have a sandwich and soda for the drive home. Uhhh no, I don't think so. The other thing that drives me crazy is the bathroom. I don't know w...
  8. Two friends of mine are doing this exact thing. One is currently working on her Masters in Nursing, her bachelor's is a health science degree and apparently you can get your RN in this masters program. She is not currently a nurse, and has zero exp...
  9. Getting a masters or NP w/o working as an RN first!

I don't think they're doing that, but they are both entering these programs without prior nursing experience. It amazes me that this is even possible!
  10. how to give insulin injection?

If no one else is complaining I wouldn't worry about it too much. There are some patient's where pretty much anything you do seems to hurts them!
  11. which shift 3pm-3:30 AM or 11AM-11:00PM

Where I work we have an 11am-11pm as well as a 3pm-3am shift. It's called mid-shift, working in the ER these can be the busiest times so these shifts make sense. I work 11 to 11 and I love it.
  12. Let me give you a little background first. I'm currently working as a PCT for a very well known hospital in my area. I am not a big fan of the floor I work on, very heavy patients, working nights, and a very high turn-over rate for nurses and techs...
  13. Need your advice, full time to "dream" per diem position

Thanks everyone! The benefits aren't a concern, we will be using my husband's benefits so we're covered there. I like the idea of going per diem at my current job, unfortunately I don't know if it would be worth it! Due to the drive and everything...
  14. Need your advice, full time to "dream" per diem position

Thanks! Yeah he did talk about hiring me on full-time as soon as he could. They said I'm sort of a "guinea pig" as they haven't had this type of position from the ED before. I think I may try to hold on to my full time position as long as possible...
  15. CNA Program Prices

Hey everyone! I am just starting my long and exciting journey to one day becoming an RN. I'm going to be finishing up all my pre-reqs this summer and applying for the maricopa nursing program in the fall! I'm looking into becoming a CNA and working a...
  16. Scrubs - what do you wear?

Hospital uniform scrubs. As a PCT I have to wear ciel blue, they gave us a couple different styles of Cherokee scrubs we could buy. We did have to purchase them ourselves.
  17. Preceptor Schedule and School

Yeah, I will definitely be asking her. I was just curious if anyone else had been in a similar situation and how it was handeled.
  18. Preceptor Schedule and School

Hey everyone! I recently got hired at a large teaching hospital in my area and start August 8th. During my interview, the NM told me that after new-hire orientation and computer charting classes I will be doing 4-5 weeks of shadowing with a precept...
  19. Preceptor Schedule and School

Nope! I'm actually in the Phoenix area. Congrats to you though!!!
  20. Searching for a job is unbelievably frustrating.

Searching for a job as a new grad CNA is easily one of the most frustrating experiences I have ever had. This is what happens: "Oh you're a new grad? Sorry, we only hire CNA's with experience. I recommend you try a LTC facility, they usually hire...
  21. CNA student question about emploment

I am a new grad CNA with no prior health care experience and I was able to get into a hospital. I agree my program was geared toward LTC also, so I know exactly what you mean. There is hope though! I think I applied 25 times before they finally call...
  22. Being too anxious?

I have been applying for a month and just scheduled my first interview. I revamped my resume and cover letter. Two days is nothing, there's a good chance that after two days they haven't even looked at your application yet!
  23. CNA/PCT work schedules in hosp.

Honestly I think it just depends on the facility and what theynhave available.
  24. When should I hear something from the State Board?

I'm not sure how it works in Florida, but are you able to check the status online? Are you waiting to hear the results of your test or for your certification number?
  25. Just got my first CNA Job!

I have no clue what you'll be doing but congrats!!!
