NEw to Home Health; need resources
Hello, I am an RN with 8 years experience. I have not done Acute Care hands-on Nursing for 2.5 years. I have several weeks to prepare for a travel HH assignment. I was wondering if there are any "must have" books for Home Health Nursing. I prefer not to get them for my Kindle. Everything on Amazon is so outdated. Any HC Nursing Web sites to help me refresh? I know most of it will come right back to me, but just want to be prepared. Many thanks, Michelle

Post-Offer Physical Exam?
Hi there, First of all best of luck to you. It is frustrating enough to find a job in this economy, but when you have to worry about your own health issues, it is even worse. May I ask what and why you are taking for Rx meds? I have always disclosed my meds (Ativan and Fiorinal) on Physicals. Now, I have chronic pain issues d/t a failed Cervical spine fuzion and Rheumatoid arthritis. The Doctor started me on MSContin and I am terrified to go to my next pre-employment PE. I did have one experience where I actually has a job offer rescinded when they found out I had a spinal fusion... I am with you on keeping you personal life out of work... I wish I had done that earlier in my career. But, I would never lie on an application or during the PE. PM me with any questions.

hedis outcomes or managed access
DON'T BOTHER! Was hired last year, completed the training and then my field advocate quit. I was never given assignments despite repeated promised for at least 30 hours/ week. This year they called me and apologized for there disorganization last year. Two weeks later they emailed me and said they did not have enough charts in my area and would not be needing me. A complete waste of time... Any other GOOD companies?

Have you had a bad reaction to the H1N1 vaccine? If so what happened?
I had no other side effects at all... probably had nothing to do with the vaccine. I am actually feeling more 'normal' tonight.

Have you had a bad reaction to the H1N1 vaccine? If so what happened?
I had the seasonal vaccine a few weeks ago with no problem. On Monday, I had the H1N1- no soreness at all, but much more concerning is that for the following two days, my balance was completely off! I was stumbling, dropping things and could not concentrate at all. I have never had a reaction to a vaccine before; any thoughts?

Substitute School Nursing
Hello! I have picked up some Substitute Nursing shifts through my local school district. There really is no training provided for Substitutes. Does anyone have any advice or tips? Can you tell me about a "typical" day? Any words of encouragement would be great! :redpinkhe

New Grad Starting Job on June 15th NEED TIPS
During my first year, I carried either 'RN Notes' or 'Med-Surg Notes' pocket guide with me. I also have a Palm Pilot with Davis Drug guide on it. I love it because I have everything I need with me at all times (including a calculator). Good luck!

Things to do on night shift
ABSOLUTELY necessary in Nursing to establish a team-approach!

Missed orders
We all forget things! This is a great example of why 24-hour chart checks are so important.

Starting first job--- really nervous
- Things to do on night shift
Charting should be done on your shift, as soon as possible. Try not to wait 'til the end of your shift. Most employers do not like to pay OT. :paw:- Things to do on night shift
If I had down time :rotfl:, I do a thorough check of all the charts (24 hour chart checks); make sure that a Nursing Note has been done for each shift, make sure all labs, diagnostic tests and consults are entered, etc. Then I put in blank progress sheet, or MD order sheet if the chart needs it. I work on discharge sheets for the AM and Pg 2s. I will check-in on patients... someone is always awake! There is ALWAYS something to be done and very rarely do we have time to do anything extra. I am lucky if I get to pee and have some crackers!!! :paw:- Starting first job--- really nervous
Hi Chloe girl, It is nerve-wracking to start a new job, especially your first Nursing job. Here are a few things to remember: if you have quesions, ask! Seriously! If there is a technical skill you have not done in awhile, if the opportunity comes up, watch one and then do it. I think many Nurses learn by doing hands-on. be yourself! Smile, interact with the staff and residents. most importantly, remember you only have ONE orientation. Try to get the most from it! If you need to extend it, ask you DON. Good luck to you and congratulations on your first job!- Two part interview all in one day....the norm?
On all the Nursing interviews I have been to: HR meeting first Unit Manager second All in the same day. Good luck!- Ironing your Scrubs
You should not need to iron your scrubs if you take them right out of the dryer and hang them up. If I cannot get to my dryer in time, I use Downy Wrinkle-Release, give the scrubs a good shake and hang them right up. The product has a light, fresh scent and works very well. The scent will fade, so it is fine for 'scent-free' facilities. :paw:- hedis outcomes or managed access
I was hired by Outcomes back in January for the HEDIS 2009 project. I completed the training, etc and have yet to be given an assignment! I was available for 40 hours/ week and willing to travel. My Field Advocate left just a few weeks into the project and told me they "had over-hired" in my area. I called several times per week and was continously given excuse after excuse. From my personal experience, I absolutely would not recommend this company. It was a complete waste of my time. Since I committed four months to them, it prevented me from actively searching for another position.- New To Night Shift
I worked 2 7pm-7:30 am nights and 1 11pm-7:30 am in a row...it was really difficult! I was not able to sleep before going in on my first night and I would have to leave my house at 6pm. I wouldn't get home until 8:45am the next morning and I could never fall asleep before 11am. Then, I would have to wake up at 5pm to get ready for another night. By the third night, I was completely exhausted. My family hated it, too. I did that schedule for a year and never truly adjusted. Yes, it was nice to have time off during the week, but I came to dread it! I hope it will work out for you. I know other who have a similar schedule and love it. - Things to do on night shift
