  1. Yogi Mel, I am so sorry to hear that you gave up your spot...I am still searching for loans. I have applied for 5 or 6 and didn't get approved because of my credit and I had a cosigner as well. I am in the process of seeing if I can get another person to cosign the loan. If I don't get the loan by the end of the month, I am going to give up my spot as well...So, you may see me at UNC:)...Good luck to you!
  2. NMWayah, I do have Facebook. I will try to send you a private message.
  3. @NMWayah, yes, we should definitely meet up! i'm not too far from you. i live in greenbelt. i will pm you my info. @YogiMel, thanks for the info. I am going to put this off for as long as I can...
  4. I am going to try both of those for private loans. Mine was 34,000. So, I will definitely only be applying for that amount. I currently live in MD. Where do you live?
  5. i hope everything works out for you! i'm going to apply to another program as well! if i'm not at duke, i will definitely be in nursing school somewhere! keep me posted!
  6. NMWayah, I am in the same predicament as you ...I have tried a couple loan companies and was denied as well...That's one reason why I haven't did the background check. I am going to wait until September 30 to order it. I hate to ask people to cosign, but it looks like that's what I'm going to have to do...Have you tried SallieMae?
  7. i enjoyed reading your story...CONGRATULATIONS!!!
  8. NMWayah, You may want to contact "M" regarding the $500. I sent mine as soon as I accepted. I received an e-mail from them confirming receipt. Thank you for the heads up as I still have not ordered the background check. I will do so over the weekend.
  9. Thanks for the encouragement BluDevil! My coworker told me to apply to Duke because her daughter is a RN and she went to Georgetown. She told me that I was going to get into Duke and not to worry about the finances...I understand, I am very impatient as well! Hopefully, we will hear something soon and I will also check into travel nursing. Sounds like you can make a pretty penny doing that! I'm single and do not have any children. So travel nursing should be a piece of cake for me!
  10. BluDevil, that is true! I want to know because if it's not a good amount, I'm going to have to explore other options .
  11. i accepted my offer as soon as they sent out admissions decisions. however, i sent an e-mail to financial aid the end of last month and i received the standard yada yada yada that we would have our financial aid packages before the october 1 deadline. also, i think we have to accept the offer by october 1. don't quote me. i still have to order my criminal background check and am waiting on financial aid before i spend anymore money!
  12. has anyone heard from financial aid?
  13. i plan to apply for the summer 2011 semester. good luck to everyone who has already applied!
  14. I'm taking A&P II and Micro together for the fall semester. I have a friend who is a RN and she told me that I will totally be stressed out from this. The only reason why I'm doing this is because I have to get my pre-reqs done before I can apply to nursing school. I'll let you know whether I have a nervous breakdown or not LOL.
  15. I am 32 and have been accepted to start nursing school in the Spring 2011. You are NEVER too old. I say go for it
  16. I have a friend who has her ADN. She hates the hospital she works at and has been trying to leave. She feels that since she doesn't have a BSN she is being discriminated against. She has decided to do the RN-BSN. I think it does matter, but utimately, the choice is yours! Good Luck!
  17. like you, i am not a math person. i'm taking an online statistics course now. thus far, my grades have been A's. however, i have to go to campus and take the final exam and i am so not happy about that. as long as i pass, i don't care.
  18. I did see that Carolina is cheaper than Duke! Thank you for the insight! Looks like I will be going to Carolina!!! Good luck to you!!!
  19. I am actually applying to Duke and UNC! Whichever program accepts me, I'm there LOL! I prefer UNC, but I need a back up just in case I don't get into one school! If accepted, I plan to attend UNC in May 2011. Thank you for the information! Best wishes to you and good luck with the NCLEX!
  20. Did anyone attend UNC-Chapel Hill SON program? I plan to apply to UNC-CH SON for the Summer 2011 session. If so, how was it? Is the program really competitive? Any information is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
  21. CONGRATULATIONS on passing the NCLEX! Best wishes to you!
  22. I totally understand your dilemma! I too have a BS and MS. I am currently enrolled in three of the four pre-reqs needed for the ABSN programs that trying to get into next year. I also work full-time. I fought myself (not literally LOL) about quitting my full time to go back to school for a BSN. I have decided that I am going to do it! I have bills as well, but keeping my current full-time and being miserable is not worth it in the long run. I would prefer to scale down to a college student again rather than show up to work everyday for a paycheck and not find my work fulfilling! I have a heap of student loans, too, but I'm not worried about that either. You also ask about the ADN vs. BSN. My girlfriend has an ADN and she loves nursing, but doesn't like the hospital she works at so much. She has been applying for jobs for months and no one will hire her. She has been a RN for two years. She swears it's because she doesn't have her BSN. While I cannot tell you what to do, I would do the BSN. I'm only doing the BSN because I don't want to pay twice for a degree in the same field! Best wishes!
  23. I'm taking microbiology online this summer and absolutely despise it. My teacher is not as thorough as she should be. Then again, I'm also taking A&P I and Statistics. I am doing exceptionally well in both of those classes. Micro is giving me trouble with those DNA, RNA, and amino acid sequences! I can't wait until this is over August 21!
  24. I can totally understand. My mom is the same way. She can be very negative...That's why I was shocked when she was supportive of my going to school to be a nurse. We have some disagreements at first because she feels I should be a teacher (she taught for 30 years and just recently retired last yet). When I stood up to here, she backed down and now she is very supportive. Don't get me wrong...she still have her moments LOL! Your Mom cares about you and she wants what's best for you! Don't let it get to you! Continue to pursue your dreams and she will be proud of you in the end! Best of luck to you!
  25. i am taking online pre-reqs now. i plan to begin nursing school in January 2011. I have a friend who's a nurse and she said that it is impossible to work and go to school. i know you have a child, but it is going to be extremely hard to care for your child, work, and study. my girlfriend also told me that nursing school is not like anything you have ever experienced before. i am excited about beginning an ABSN program in the spring, but I have bills, too. Quitting my full-time job to go to school full time is going to be a struggle, since I haven't had to go to school full-time since undergrad. I know that if you have determination, everything is possible:)! Good luck to you!
