yes always have a female nurse with you whenever your going to do something that may cause the exposure of any sensitive body part.... I learned my lesson the hardway and from now i won't listen to breaths sound correctly (stethoscope directly over skin, not stethoscope over gown)

to your orginal question.... they are just bunch of BS, that's why MDs can't take nurses seriously.

Finishing my ACNP this May, glad this nightmare is almost over... these past 2 yrs have been the worst ever!!! i don't think i would ever do it again, I personally think my program wasted a lot of time on "Fluff" work (papers, papers and more papers)

learn to right lots of APA PAPERS!!! really if your doing ACNP get the Barkley book and memorize it.

not true... have a friend that is a micro major(worked as a lab tech for a yr or so) that just finished PA school.

unrealistic expectation... that is it currently were i work the nurse is suppose to fill the home med req but we also have been told if the pt doesnt' come with Rx bottles or a med req from an outside facility we are not to write them down. b/c what is happening is that people are coming in saying i take toprol 50 mg bid when i reality they are taking toprol 25 mg bid or visversa also people are coming in saying they take "vicodin" for their "back pain" and in reality they are not taking anything

CCU/CVICU if you want to learn cardiac. skip the floors they are worthless(sorry, to those that work there, no disrespect) if you want CRNA, go to CVICU!!!

It's not an EMERGENCY unless pt is symptomatic... but can soon be an emergency if you leave the pt alone...

go up the chain of command....charge nurse>manage>director>physician>attending>medical director>etc... and document that you went up chain of command, the BON is very gray in alot of issues and they can interpret the rules as they please...

CVICU in a teaching facility, we had so much autonomy that it was scary for alot nurses, many nurses left after working just a couple of shifts(2-5 shifts) we called it "cowboy nursing" Don't recommend it b/c i put my license on the line everyday that i clocked in for 7+yrs. glad to be out of that environment

Just remember, healthcare is a ILLUSION of great service. I really bothers me that "administration" that make decisions on how i do nursing at the bedside are so far removed from the bedside they have no idea what goes on. again it's the illusion of great healthcare.

i was taught to put the datascope on "pressure" when coding a pt.

wow...you just lost total credibility...also their waiting for you oversee already, can you please do some teaching/educating on personal hygiene since it seems as if they don't get that... but anyways back to OP NP education is geared towards the whole body/mind/soul bv11$H!+(sorry moderator), were PA is geared towards the actually problem of the patient.

I see what your saying, but we're here to TAKE CARE OF PEOPLE HEALTH ISSUES not teach them lessons in history or art...

wife graduated in Dec 09 got a Nursing job in June 2010 , and she work at hospital as a EKG tech for 4months, eventhough she had already passed her boards in febuary 2010.

at the teaching hospital that i use to work at they would say 20K per new grad...

Tell her to resign, it's best to leave a hospital that way.(trust me) also when she applies to another job, on the reason why she left: DON'T PUT I MADE A HIPPA VIOLATION put "seeking other experience" or whatever. b/c you won't get hired. i've been told by several HR directors that when they call to "verify" employement all they ask is did he/she work there and how long. they "rarely" ask if he/she is eligble for re-hire. the reason being is it's a liability if they ask the "eligible for re-hire" question and they hire you and something happens down the line, a smart attorney can make a case for "pattern of conduct or whatever". don't worry it happens to everyone, it's one of those things that you live and learn.

-"useless": hospitals ARE moving towards hiring BSN prepared nurses, it's not a useless degree but it will make it a little harder to obtain a job -ADN and BSN make the same amount of money
