  2. Just wondering for future reference how everyone found out about the Scripps new grad program? Also, when will you guys be starting?
  3. Just wondering if those that were contacted by TalentPlus or received an email applied on the first day? Thanks and goodluck to everyone!
  4. I keep checking my status, but still not change. I'm really praying for something...
  5. i dont want to seem too crazy but i didnt get an email saying my profile was received...did u guys get the email?
  6. SOOOOO bUMMMED that I only found this thread now...I didn't even realize Scripps was accepting new grad apps. I've been on the site a couple times in the last few months chatting with recruiters about when the new grad program will be - everytime they've told me they didn't know and now I find I missed it...uggghhhh...frustrating!!! I applied for the Palomar Pomerado position though..got an interview...sigh...goodluck to everyone!
  7. Hello to my fellow new grads! For those who had trouble finding employment immediately after graduating - what did you do to finally get hired? In my case, it's been about 6 months since graduation. I'm working on getting ACLS and PALS; I would have gotten them sooner but the classes are expensive! I looked into volunteer opportunities and got accepted at a very good hospital in my area. I'm also completing an IV Therapy course, and am looking into taking an EKG Tech class to enhance skill and of course, the resume. Sometimes I start to get worried and want to apply to PCA positions, but don't even think I'm allowed to do that if licensed as an RN. I'm doing all of this because I've accepted the fact that many new grads worked in the hospital setting prior or during nursing school. HR tends to favor them, and I can definitely understand. I definitely regret not working as a PCA throughout nursing school, but that's the past and I have to think of what I can do now. At this point, I'm trying to stay positive. With these classes, I'm enhancing my skills, but of course, I'm hoping completion of these classes will grab the attention of HR when its time to apply. Anyway, I'd love to hear from those of you worked "extra hard" to finally land that job after graduation. Thanks in advance for your input! Feel free to PM me or just post for all to see :)
  8. I wonder if anyone has ever been hired as a nurse after or while serving as a CCE? I will be starting soon, and really love the hospital that I'm at. I know nothing is guaranteed, but I was really just wondering if anyone has ever been offered a job as nurse through their CCE work?
  9. Hi everyone, I will be interviewing for a position as a perioperative partner, and would value any tips and suggestions that vetaran and experienced OR nurses/managers have, including what you would be looking for in a peri-operative partner and/or questions that may asked in the interview. A little bit of info: The position does not require licensure (duties include transfer of patients, cleaning the OR, and basically prepping the room for turnover (so licensed staff can put more focus on the patient and nursing care). The position is mostly for weekends. I have never worked in the OR, however I am a recent grad, and I feel this position would be a great opportunity to be exposed to this environment and of course, a great learning experience. I hope they do not feel my degree deems me overqualified, because I am VERY willing to LEARN and perform the duties of the Peri-op partner. I will definitely do my best if hired into this position. Any scenarios (ie. what have your experiences been with great peri-op partners been), interview questions (ie. what would you ask me), what are YOU looking for (ie. qualities/characteristics/skills) -- ANYTHING would extremely helpful and appreciated. Thanks in advance for your suggestions. IT will truly be BIG help :redbeathe
  10. hi everyone! I have an interview for this next week! I definitely NEED this opportunity! Can you tell me a little bit about it, are you able to take extra shifts a week (more than the four hours), and is the commitment for a year?
  11. My classmate got a position in postpartum/L&D at Grossmont! =)
  12. Hey everyone, Do u think for those who haven't been contacted at this point that we still have a chance?
  13. congrats on the interview doran002! Goodluck!
  14. AHHH...anybody get calls for Grossmont at all?
  15. does anybody know if they are still accepting applications for the new grad program?
  16. Hi Gem0607, How soon after did you receive the email? Thanks.
  17. I think they will email to inform us when they have received your entire portfolio. I'll be waiting just the same =)
  18. Hi everyone, I just applied to Sharp's New Grad Residency Winter 2010/2011. *Fingers, Toes, and Eyes crossed that we get interviews* Just wondering if anyone else had some trouble with the online application process. I completed the online application, and SAVED it; however, I noticed that if I wanted to review my entries by clicking on "Online Application," all entries were blank. I also wish that we could view uploaded documents (cover letters and transcript) just so I know that they really do have it on file. Anyway, I look forward to hearing about any progress with this residency.
  19. Hi lefthander1975! How is Sharp Mary Birch's New Grad program in the NICU? I only had one day in the NICU as a nursing student, and it was mostly observation since the babies were so fragile. I was also able to observe the ECMO team working on a patient that day. However, my senior preceptorship was in the Intermediate Intensive Care Nursery, a step-down unit to the NICU; but the patients seemed far less sick compared to babies in the NICU. After that experience, I've become extremely interested in becoming a neonatal nurse in the NICU, but I am also a little bit hesitant about starting in the NICU as a New Grad.
  20. Hi everyone, I am hoping to apply to CS next New Grad program - just wondering if any of you know when the next application date will be (or how you became aware of this summer program)? I was on their website but couldn't find anything regarding the New Grad program. Any type of information will be very much appreciated =) Also, did anyone ever figure out if the 3.5 GPA requirement was for nursing courses only or cumulitive?
  21. I know about 5 people who got panel interviews at LPCH this week...they are waiting to find out if they will be going on to the "next round" with the managers.
  22. Hi everyone, I plan to apply to UCSD's next New Grad program - I'm sure the one's who have already been hired are quite busy now, but I was just wondering if they ended up hiring you in the department that you requested or if they put you in a department that they saw fit. The reason I ask is because although I feel Medical/Surgical is what I want the most, I feel I have the opportunity to learn on any floor or unit as a new grad - so I'm pretty flexible. Let's cross our fingers!! I really look forward to applying to UCSD =)
  23. Hey guys! I was just wondering if those who got call backs did their capstone practicum at that hospital? I'm told that some hospitals don't even consider applicants who haven't done a rotation at their hospital?
  24. First of all, applying to nursing school is a process on it's own, since you apply months in advance - obviously, you may or may not get accepted. I say go ahead and submit your application to your nursing school of choice - then if they send you an acceptance letter, you can finally make your decision to start the program or not. Keep in mind that you'll be a student for 2 whole years, and things may/may not get better. As nursing grad, I can tell you from experience that people who got jobs made CONNECTIONS during school,..they volunteered at the hospitals they wanted to work at...many worked as PCAs or unit clerks...and that got their foot in the door - meaning they spoke with managers and asked the important question, "What do I need to do to get a job here after a graduate?" Some managers will tell you from very early on that your GPA has to be so and so high..which is good..cuz then you can work on your GPA early in the game...etc,etc. The most important thing is to meet a manager on some floor in the hospital you have clinicals, volunteer or work... :)
  25. Hi Ilovenursing2009, I anticipate applying for Sharp's 2010 New Grad program. Any news/information on that person who got a call back? Did she actually know someone who worked at Sharp or did she just submit her application online like everyone else? I'm slowly starting to feel overwhelmed as I read about everyone past new grad application experiences,,,
