Does nursing school go by quickly? Seems like it'll be forever before I'm a nurse.
Nursing school goes by so fast. I started in January 04 and graduated August 05. I just took my boards, passed and am now working. I still have to pinch myself sometimes to make sure I am not dreaming. It really does go by fast. Amy

Vent settings?
Papaw John, you are great! I hope my preceptor has the ability to explain things like you do. I always love reading your responses because I learn something I didn't know. Amy

NCLEX results are in...............
I took my test here in Alabama. The only people that can access the online verification here are employers. There is a phone number you can call but I received my results in the mail before the information on the phone was updated.

Waiting on results!
I found out today when my results came in the mail that I passed. I live in Alabama and my name has still not appeared on their website even though my letter was mailed out on Monday.

New Graduates salary in Alabama
i can give you some information on birmingham area hospitals. i just graduated last month and start my new job on monday. i interviewed at several places before making my decision so this info. is current. uab new grads starting pay is 18.60 and you have to pay for parking (45.00/month) st vincents is 18.10 with free employee parking baptist health systems is 18.25 during orientation and then 18.50, i believe they have free parking (not sure) childrens hospital is 18.10 and parking is 35.00/month i chose brookwood hospital. pay is 18.10 (they have just signed a pay increase but i am not sure what it is) and they have free parking. one of the things i liked about brookwood is that they will pay back student loans up to 12,000 dollars. i had less than that so withing two years my student loans will be paid. hope this helps.

Venting about NCLEX results
Thanks Suzanne but my state (Alabama) does not even put info. on their website. It's only for employers that have a pin number. They told me I just have to wait for the results to come in the mail.

Just finished NCLEX
Does anyone know what type teaching questions are? I had lots of priority and discharge teaching questions. I know that priority are higher level but what about discharge teaching. Computer shut off at 155. Hope I passed.

Question about triage
Here are the notes that I have on the subject If you are in a triage situation where there are limited resources and staff think about salvaging more patients. This means if you have 1 patiet who has just stopped breathing, 1 with an open fx, 1 with difficulty breathing and 1 pt with a minor laceration you would not see the pt who is not breathing first. You would prioritize the other patients who are still alive and see the not breathing patient last. However, if you have plenty of staff and resources then you would see the pt who has just stopped breathing first. Hopefully that makes sense.

Question about triage
I found the answer thanks.

Question about triage
I am a little confused about different things I have read so if someone could clear it up I would really appreciate it. In triage with LIMITED staff and resources you follow order of Red, Yellow, Green and Black but in an ER where there is plenty of staff and resources do you see Black first, then red, yellow and green?

Thinking about rescheduling the NCLEX
Only reschedule if you really think you need to. I personally couldn't imagine rescheduling because I know that one week would not make a difference.

Testing Tomorrow YIKES!!
Not to be mean so please do not take this the wrong way but I would not be asking people how you will do. I posted something similar the other day about this because I had only done around 1000 questions on Saunders and was scoring 65%. People were telling me that I should reschedule and it caused some severe anxiety. I feel ready for this test and on other tests (NCLEX 3000 and Hurst tests) I have done well. I would just have confidence and know that your going to do fine. Good luck.

Please help
One other thing I liked about Hurst is they have a DVD specifically for management and delegation. They provide losts of questions on ER triage and prioritizing patients.

Please help
There were about 10 different nurses that recommended Hurst review to me so I took it. I loved it! It does seem to miss some stuff but they have a 99% pass rate and everyone that recommended it to me said they only used Hurst. I have not done so good on the Saunders questions (60 to 65%) but on the NCLEX 3000 questions I have not got below an 80%. I probably shouldn't have posted this thread because sometimes this board just causes me more anxiety.

Please help
rescheduling is not an option, I actually feel ready to take this test. I have been studying alot. It's just discouraging when I do not score so well on the Saunders exams. I have others who have told me that Saunders is harder than the actual NCLEX questions, so I am hoping that is true.

Please help
I know everyone says you should do 3000 or so questions before the NCLEX. I took the hurst review a couple of weeks ago and felt really good. I have been studying that material and answering some questions. I have only done about 800 questions so far (test is Sept 15th). The problem is that I do horrible on the questions and it is really discouraging me. I am averaging around 60-65% and it is killing my self confidence. My school did NCLEX style questions on exams and I did good but when it comes to Saunders I am doing really bad.

Advice needed please
I am a new grad and I have been offered a job in the CCU and the MICU. I am really having a hard time making up my mind. I always thought CCU was just cardiac stuff but at my interview they assured me that they see all types of patients. Any advice or opinions on working in these two units? Amy

practice questions
Hey everyone, My test is scheduled for Sept. 15th. I have been doing 100 questions a day to prepare and I am having a really hard time staying focused while taking these practice tests. I am scared if I get the 265 I'll lose focus. I just have a real hard time sitting still and concentrating. Anyone else having problems?

Question for those who have taken hurst review
Did Marlene teach it? I just found out that someone else is teaching it at our school. The website states that Marlene teaches the classes but when I called they said they have a staff of professionally trained nurses who teach some of the classes. Did anyone else have someone other than Marlene and how was it?

How soon to apply..
I have not had a formal interview yet. I applied after being offered a job by the nurse manager. I am scheduled to have a formal interview next week but she has already told me the job is mine.
