I have to be bathed by my classmate???
Phelbotomy is different. They do that. Here in my school we dont (ADN) stick each other. Although all my instructors did when they were in school. And as far as fighting it, again I wouldnt rock the boat. JMHO

I have to be bathed by my classmate???
LoL if you wish. But in my class we had to pick same sex partners. But it isnt a huge deal since no one gets nude. So I can see how some schools wouldnt care either way. Its a good experience and it isnt so bad. Also you dont usually do it on the first day. So you have a chance to get to know someone better and it isnt so bad, after all you all have to do it. No biggy. I would fear "bed making" more. It was such a huge issue and so critical. Had nightmare over being tested on something so stupid. But its all about the hoops baby.

I have to be bathed by my classmate???
I have seen this too and agree with the boot camp thingy. We had many "rebel" students try to change exam questions, stating they were too hard, well DUH do you not think they are hard for a reason? Do you think the NCLEX is a cake walk? I swear people think if they b*tch long and hard enough they can change the whole system, and in reality, it is hurting them more than helping them. I have seen people run right out of nursing school for not conforming with the rules or not doing a good job or just plain having attitude, and talking sh*t instead of learning and going through the motions. Most I wouldnt have wanted to be my nurse, so I guess it is a good thing. But you never want to stick out like a sore thumb, no tin school any way. leave that for a time when you have to be a pt avocate, or some other necessity in the field.

I have to be bathed by my classmate???
How long ago? Most schools I have heard do not for the same reasons. Your school, while its good you got to practice on real people before going to the hospital, but the practice itself is scarey for the schools safety.

I have to be bathed by my classmate???
LoL if you act inappropriatley then you would get the big ol boot. Privacy is maintained and no one does peri care so it really isnt a biggy if you have shorts and a tank, or a bathing suit. Of course no one can force you to do anything but fighting it just puts a huge target on your head. Sure you can b*tch moan and kick your feet, but I wouldnt. Its been done a long time and its not like ou have to show your privates. Besides your partner feels awkward about it too. But, it does teach you and you do get a back rub. And you feel what patients feel, only you dont have to show your "stuff" as they do. I just wouldnt pick a partner who had a great physical shape and you didnt. hehe I would pick someone whom I could feel more comfortable with.

Thankfully they wont let you practice or make pin cushions out of each other. HIV/hep A-Z stopped that.

Kaplan review class
I heard about the review classes and that they are long and comprehensive. I heard its like taking the RN program but cramming all the info you learned in 2 years into 4 days. Some you will recall, some you wont remember very well, but know you did go over it vaguely. Some of the info your instructors might have missed, or went through too fast. I have heard of people who passed with out it and others who say they learned a lot from it. But I havent heard of anyone who took it that failed the NCLEX, so I'm crossing my fingers.

I have to be bathed by my classmate???
Hahah I recall being as frightened about this as you but most just wore shorts and some daring ones wore a bathing suit. We had the curtains drawn and most of us knew someone from our prereqs that we felt comfortable enough with. Also it was stated no m/f groups. It was not as big of a deal as we thought. You dont have to wear underwear if you dont want.

How do you really feel about 5-star rooms?
They all (the rooms) look the same with the lights off at night. But I hate those pts who will ask to be waited on hand and foot,( like the woman who got up to come to the nurses station for EVERYTHING yet asked for a diaper, wth for? During the day when your roamiing the halls? She was up and able to get to the restroom, could call you to tell you she had to go or went and to measure it. But wanted a diaper..) also those who are on their call light every 30 seconds, who want EVERYTHING YESTERDAY. You know those who actually call teh hospital and get the nunrses station to ask for something because you didnt make it quick enough to their call light.

Here's what AAs really think of CRNAs
How about "someones sugar daddy" hehe Personally I loved my anestesiologist, And everytime I had surgery was before school and I didnt ask credentials being out side of field. I just knew they gave me some good S$%# and I love them for it
-
Hippa info. please
You cant prove anyone is a relative. Besides what if the one relative calls whom they dont want to know. The nurses at our hospital just pass the call to the room and let the pt answer their questions politely telling them they cant give out that info.

Psych- What is it like?
I thought psych was fun. I was nervous. One thing dont wear any necklaces or the name tags with the cord that you can pull on. I agree they will tell you anything and dont believe all they tell you. But they are happy to have you there and a new person to tell things to. When I went we didnt give meds they stood in a med pass line for that. You just follow them thru their day. To classes and group and just sit and talk to them. Its pretty laid back. Most Pts wont harm you but make sure you listen to report so you know a little background on this person. They have no shame and will tell you everything you need to know and everything you didnt want to know. Its amazing. I did hear of a lil old guy asking a girl in the med line to give him some oral sex and her being compliant.....(Im glad to say I wasnt there at the time just heard about it in group) Also same lil old guy nearly getting his butt kicked for being a little too friendly with the male clients too. (I did see this, wow) So yes strange things happen. They are much like kids, childlike sometimes and dont realize when things are inappropriate. Oh this also was the long term facility. the short term facility was a bit different since they didnt get a chance to really know the other clients, but those people in short term are usually in some crisis. Long term is long standing. I must say psych interested me a lot more after going to the hospital. Every day is different, and a lot to see and hear.

Z-coil shoes
Every nurse I ever saw wearing them swears by them and many had back surgeries and swear the shoes helped them a lot. They look so "tiggerish" to me. WHen I see them I want to sing the tigger song. "bouncy, trouncy, fun fun fun, the most wonderful thing about tiggers is im the only one!" hehe Im sure I will try them eventually. Once I can get over the whole tigger part.

To everyone on All Nurses
Dont quit now, try a study group with ppl who do well and study well together. If you cant possibly make it pull out and get back in next semester. I know 2nd semester was the "meat and potatoes" of nursing and was by far the hardest for me. If you can make it through this the rest is more down hill and things start piecing together. This is where you learn so much, its hard to follow but it helps in the 3rd and 4th semesters for things to come together in your mind.Best of luck! But dont leave the board you know what a valuable asset it can be when you have questions and there are many here with so much knowledge, I bet if you added it up you would have a million years of knowledge on this very board!! hehe Good luck and I will cross my fingers for you!

Starting IV
I would bet a nurses IV skills would be more up to par than an MD anyways. Seeing as they dont really ever start them, least I have never seen them start one.

What is your biggest nursing pet peeve?
Had a pt who was a feeder. Fed Pt breakfast, family came in at lunch. I placed tray on bedside table (as pt was asleep) to come back after passing all the trays). Wife says, "Arent you going to feed him?" I said, "well I have to pass the other trays and I have a few things to do, might be quicker if you fed him." Wife says, "oh, we will wait for you." After they had complimented how clean the pt was earlier while I went in to give the other pt his bath, and PT came while trays came so I had to change the other pts bed. Along with the wife visiting (the home caregiver of this pt who needed feeding), who was a larger woman..who had her chair pushed 4-6 inches from the pts bed I was changing, whom I bumped into many times trying to change linens and said "excuse me", never budged the whole time. But they were going to "wait for me to feed him." Incredible Oh and to top it all off they went and complained I didnt feed him and his food got cold, because the tech was going to ask them to feed him, because we were so busy.

the term "animal nurse"
I think techs do a lot but in no way have to know the sorts of things nurses do. How many disease processes and drugs interactions and animal codes have they worked? How long would you code "fido". I dont think the laws and rights are the same for an animal as a person. How many court cases are argued over "wrongful death" of fido? We dont draw blood most times because in this field our expertise is needed else where. We can draw it. Its just the hospital employs people at a lower pay to do so, therefore freeing up the RN to do more difficult tasks like monitoring a hep drip or a cardiac drug. How many animals stay in ICU for months? These are animals, and therefore there are different laws. We as nurses have to know if an order isnt right, and know that if we give it our butts are on the line. Is it the same for a vet tech? Then you have the whole psyc issues and dealing with PEOPLE who are angry, sad, helpless and families of the patients. I do not care what you call yourselves but to say you know more (as a tech, or a vet tech) or that you do more is crazy. I have heard people even in the hospital stating someone being a "nurse" in the patients family, and yes it is hard because they do know a lot of what is going on. I have also heard of people "claiming" their family memeber is a nurse only to find out they are a tech, housekeeping, or work in Admin or some other aspect of the hospital
