Thanks guys! As excited as I am about the float position reading around here is making me wonder if I made the right choice. I was also offered a post op orthopedic med surg floor and turned it down for the float job. Then I started reading posts on here saying it is really hard to float straight out of school and not having a home base. But we do orient to one unit for a few months. We shall see I guess lol

So I thought it would be fun for all the 2012 grads to share where they will be starting their careers! I am graduating next month and have accepted a floating GN position. Cant wait to start. Where is everyone else going to be working?

It really depends on your area. I am graduating in may and have already secured a job. Some of my class mates had job offers months ago. But other areas a BSN is needed as a new grad. You need to research your area :)

Move! There's plenty of jobs here in elmira ny and its only four hours away. I graduate in may and had interviews today.

I live in elmira, I am actually going to corning cc for my adn because I wanted to get it done in two years as opposed to three. I know a few grads and current studnets at arnot and I hear good things!

Thats not true, where I live adns get hired before graduation. All depends where you live.

It depends where you live, it is true that adn's having trouble finding jobs in NYC but elsewhere in NY its a very different story. I am graduating in may with my adn and expect to have a job lined up in the next few months. More then half of the grads from my program where hired for may by december last year. I live in corning ny if that helps. I think it is just bigger citys such as NYC that adns have trouble finding work, so I would say if you live in a smaller city like me go for your adn first then you can actually be working in the field as an RN while completing your bsn :)

After doing some research im going to get the littman classic II se for the fall. And im going to order it online so I can get it engraved for free since there seems to be alot of talk of them getting stolen in clincals. I know its not the best scope there is out there but I think it will be perfect for school, and I can upgrade as a graduation present to myself in the future :)

I just ordered mine last week, we had to get them from our local life uniform store. We get a 10% student discount like any student at life uniform does. The set includes a royal blue v neck, scrub pants, and a white scrub jacket. All are embroidered with our school logo. The price for the set goes by size. xs-xl 64.99, 2x-3x 74.37 and 4x-5x 80.60. I know they are expensive but when I tried them on at my fitting they seem like good quality and I figure once I get my first sets I can find the brand of scrubs somewhere else and take them to our local embroidery shop for much cheaper. I ordered 2 sets because I have clinical twice a week. Also I would feel more comfortable always having a backup set in my bag after hearing all the gross horror stories from clinicals. You never know if you might have to change.

Nope not hard to get into, I got accepted but decided to take cheaper cc route. I talked to the admissions women at length and she said they take some people with as low as 2.5's!!

I am a member of a social sorority -Phi sigma sigma- and honestly cannot imagine being an active member during nursing school. Sorority's take up a lot of time, on top of all the the fun stuff that your going to want to do we are always having mandatory events. Honestly as much as I love being in a sorority I will be going inactive next year because I really think the distraction would be damaging to me and is not worth it.

I took a&p there and talked to a few students that were trying to get into the program, one women was an adult student and had just applied for the first time and got turned down with a 3.9gpa, she told me some of the department heads were fighting for her though. The other was a younger male who applied to the program 3 times each with a 4.0 and finally got in the third time, according to him they have more 4.0s applying then there are seats....I would look elsewhere. If im remembering right their nclex passage rate isn't stellar either. Im going to corning community college and got in with a 3.4 its about 2 hrs 15 min from buffalo (some clinicals closer) if you were willing to commute or relocate that could be an option.

The graduating class for last year of the program im starting in the fall started with 120 and only graduated 47. It makes me nervous but they're nclex first time passage rate is a 95 so they must be doing something right :)

Ill be honest with you, im very discouraged with nursing programs in general. I was a student at university at buffalo and was set to apply to the program this year, with a 3.4 and good science grades and all my pre reqs done I was told I looked good to get in. A month before the application was set to open and after many other schools deadlines had passes they sent out an email saying do to budget cuts they were not accepting any applications and closing out the program for a year. After some parents threatening to sue they accepted 24 people (original promise was close to 120) all whom had 4.0 or very close to it. I was left scrambling to find another program that I was eligible to apply to pre req wise that still had an open deadline. I was only able to find a few private schools that I was eligible with deadlines still open. I couldn't afford to attend any of those. So I applied to my local community college and got accepted. I know I was lucky to be accepted into a community college program at all but Im very frustrated I spent two years at a university working towards a bsn program and now have to go to a community college. Not saying theres anything at all wrong with cc's its just frustrating because I feel like I wasted two years. So what I would tell you is to look at all your options and do it early and have many backups just in case. Also do your own research because nursing advisers wont always be 100 percent honest with you.

I commute 30 minutes and dont think I could do more then that, especially considering how early some clinicals start

i was just taking a second look at the review, and the girl listed her own intelligence as “not so bright”………

i was told by the nursing secretary the deadline was march, but she could have been wrong. i have been doing some research the last few days and found that review as well. im nervous now, that fail rate is outrageous. but of you think about it since they are so much easier on admissions then other schools that would explain why so many people fail out. it makes sense that a nursing program that only lets in students with high gpas would retain more students than one that lets in people that didn’t do as well in their sciences and other pre requisites simply because they won’t be as prepared for the nursing courses. but i looked at their nclex first time passage rate and it was a 95.5 so they must be doing something right. i just don’t understand why it seems every other nursing is near impossible to get into, and have waiting lists when corning has neither.

Hi, I've just been accepted to start the nursing program in fall 2010 and was wondering if anyone went/goes there and has info and advice on the program? :) Also just a heads up for people on waiting lists willing to relocate I applied for the ccc program a month after the deadline with a 3.4 gpa and got in no problem! And I dont have all A's in all my sciences.
