I lived Tupelpo MS I was getting 19 an hour. And it took me about 5 months to find a job. Its hard down there.

Alarm fatigue is such a real problem not even for those patients in the ICU but for all patients in the hospital. I wish there was something we could do to stop the incessant beeping. And clearly it affects the staff too. It is a shame. Thanks for the great point. On another note, funny responses-Sometimes in work I believe the pumps are making music together and we are not in their secret plan to make me go crazy. lol

.....who else hears them after a long shift? Because I sure do. lmao!

At my new job we do something called Multidisciplinary rounds. (I am a fairly new nurse and I am very new to a stroke unit) It is where the different departments (Dr's, SW, stroke coordinator and so on) meet all together everyday to speak about the patients on the unit. Each nurse has to meet with them and give a report on each patient in their assignment. I love it. I think it is a great idea because we make sure the patient is meeting all the core measures, the patient's plan of care is on the right track, and it helps the nurse to guide the patients care for the day. But at the same time, I hate it because I have to stop giving meds and go to rounds. It throws me off my track and frazzled, lol. It also gets me nervous because they are sometimes throwing out questions to me about the patient that I haven't had a chance to look at or know. Working day shift on such a busy unit and being new is slightly overwhelming. I know with time I will get the hang of it but ugh....it gets me so nervous!!! I just wanted to know how anyone else feels about rounds and how you deal with it. Thanks!

Hello everyone. I have to wear all white to work and I don't mind it much. But these days I cannot seem to get away from getting ink stains on my uniform. If it is not by my own clumsiness or just by the ink trolls, lol. I have been using clorax and trying to pre-treat the stains but I am not successful. So does anyone have any tricks on removing ink stains from uniforms? Thanks in advance and I am excited to read the responses.

What pattern did you get? I got the white one with pink, green and purple on it.

We were directed to dress professional or business casual. I didn't mind.

From working 5 days a week. 3-11, every Friday off and every other weekend off with the exception of working every other Sunday. Now THAT is having no life. I am TOO excited to finally have the 12 hour shift and the guaranteed 4 days off. Just saying....

I personally love the Dansko brand. Every other brand/shoe I tried, has given me soooo much leg and foot pain, it was riduculous. I also had a foot injury I never took care of and this shoe always gives me comfort.

I just purchased three Nursemates compression trouser support socks with 11mmHg strength. I tried them on and it didn't feel very tight or "compressing", lol. I didn't want to start with a high strength and suffer through that. But maybe I need a stronger strength? Does anyone else use these socks? How do you like them? Any complaints? Thanks!

I didn't grad from USC, it was SU-South University. Yeah it is a well known school and that may be true but it really depends on the city you are moving to and NY is so saturated as it is. But if you know someone that can get you in that would be great too. Good luck with everything.

Interesting story. I like that we have a story of how I got to where we are. I miss my last job too, working those babies made me feel happy. But I am happy to move forward.

Thanks! Google. Google is your best friend. Just search, "job fairs" in the city/state you live in. Also being involved with nursing magazines gives you a lot of leads on job fairs and positions. Magazines like Advance for nurses. And depending on where you live, Nurse.com gives free magazines too and there is also a lot of information on their websites. Good luck

Thanks! It was by chance really. Because when I was hired they told me that I would be only floated a few times on a need be basis. But come to find out the women's center nurses WERE the float nurses. I didn't like it at first but I got used to it after a while and I saw the benefits of it.

Hey there...yeah I can totally understand. I don't know why they have to be so expensive. But I just emailed you.

It has been about 6 months after my first year after licensure and I am about to start my third job. Long story. I graduated December 2011 and passed boards with 91 questions January 2012. I got my first job 3 months after passing boards, stayed there for 8 months and had to get outta there!! Bad place . My second job I got 6 months after moving to a new state. An outpatient clinic setting, I like it so far. But not for me so I continued to look for a full time permanent position. I just recently got my third job and I have yet to start it. It is finally in the specialty I have been wanting and it well was worth the wait. My first year hasn't been too bad so far (knock on wood). I have had some things happen and thankfully they were all handled smoothly. My first year was slightly stressful though because of the never ending job search. It was discouraging but I learned a lot during the process. Within my first year, I inserted my first IV on both an adult and an infant. And if anyone knows what it is like to get an IV on a chunky baby knows why I am so proud. Both were successes especially being that I only inserted one IV in nursing school. I worked in areas that I would only touch with a ten foot pole. But I have gained great experience and skills from all of those positions. Even though my first year has already past, I feel like it has just begun because I am in the area I want to be in. My career has started because now I have direction for my future as a nurse. Let's hope in the next year I still have great things to say . It has been a long road but I have been very patient (although I did complain at times-I am human) I am so happy to have finally be here .

Yes you should renew it. I never had to use it so far and I hope I never have to. But it is good to know that I have sort of a safety net to help me just in case something happens.

I just recently purchased the Nurse Mates, Ultimate Nursing Bag in the floral print. It is supposed to be delivered some time this week and I am excited to get it. I saw some reviews saying it is a pretty big bag but I want one that is specifically for work and I could fit any and everything in it. Does anyone else have this bag? How do you like it?
