How do you know if your fit to be a nurse?
To be a good nurse you have to compationate, stubborn, organized, and motivated. To pass classes you HAVE TO STUDY. However, if you are interested in science the topics will be interesting to you. The farther I got into nursing the more I loved it.

Anatomy and Physiology at MCC (macomb community college)
I never used my anatomy book that was assigned but other online resources and my class notes from lecture. It isn't a big deal if you don't have the same edition.

You know you're in nursing school when....
ha That is so true. Everyday I have a coke and a snack from the vending machine for lunch and sometimes breakfast as well.
-
You know you're in nursing school when....
You know you are in nursing school when.... you haven't seen your bf/gf in five days because you would rather study at the library.

Do you identify yourself as a nurse when you or your family are a patient?
I don't want to make the staff feel uncomfortable while I am in the room so I do not say anything. I would speak up if they are doing something improperly that is dangerous to myself or my family.

First CNA Job: Hospital or Nursing Home?
It is a respectable way to start your career. I had a clinical instructor that started working at a nursing home straight out of college and she loved it. She said she felt a greater sense of autonomy and said she did not think she would have learned so much so fast at a hospital. Once your have some experience under your belt you can apply somewhere else. Nursing is much larger than working in hospitals. You have many options.

RN- associates or bachelors degree?
I think community college is the way to start your nursing career. Study hard and earn good grades and you will be fine. When you are interviewing be sure to mention that your goal is to earn a bachelors and they will be more inclined to hire you. It is all about having a positive and determined attitude. When you get hired the hospital can help pay for your bachelors so it is a very smart move on your part. I wish you the best of luck!

When did you become competent with starting an IV and blood draws
Some schools in St. Louis require that student nurses spend an 8 hour shift working in an emergency room so they are able to become comfortable with placing IVs. It is a great learning experience.
