  1. 38 may be too old for your friend, but it doesn't sound too old for you. You have a great support system within your family. If your friend is not supportive of you going back to school, well I think that person is not to much of a friend. Take this into consideration for fueling your desire to becoming a nurse, what were you doing three years ago, sitting in the same chair, same office. Get my point! Take care and good luck with your new career path. ZAHMAN.
  2. New thread material please! ZAHMAN
  3. Thats really unfortunate the way they take advantage of people like you. Instead of telling them NO, tell them you will come in for triple pay and stick to that amount. I bet they will soon realize how important it is to hire more nurses, increase the pay scale or more importantly your time off is to you and your family. Hope things go well. ZAHMAN
  4. Sexual experiences in the ICU. I had a young lady with a cervical injury who was also hypersexual. Well, she rang her call light when her nurse was busy so I went into her room. I asked her what she needed, to my surprise she replied " I want you to F*$# me". With a straight face I replied, "Thats not appropriate". Being quick witted as she was she replied, "Your right, will you make love to me". I had no reply after that, just a good laugh. ZAHMAN
  5. I've been in martial arts for about 24 years and I must admit it has helped me to become more respectful of others, particularly when cultural/religious differences are involved. I also find myself not being as stressed as others in emergency situations. Who knows if that is a result of the martial arts are just being desensitized. ZAHMAN
  6. Hellllllo Nurse, AAAHA, said the blind man to the deaf mute! Well, just fill mine up! ZAHMAN
  7. Amylcd, Having a child at such a young age puts stress on a multitude of support systems, not just government agencies. You have to admit at some time there was alot of stress due to your young age. Please do not take offense because, I am in no way trying to demoralizing you, infact I am applauding you for becoming a responsible adult. Hellllllo Nurse, The bedpan is not half-full nor is it half-empty, rather it is just FOS. ZAHMAN
  8. Sorry to disagree with you, but a teen who has to depend on their family, regardless of the support system, is a drain on the system. The family support system. Mom/Dad (Teens parents, if still together) will have to adjust their lifes, financially, and emotionally to help their teenager raise a child. With an adjustment to the family dynamics comes stress. This undue stress is then circumvented in some manner to family members and extended family members, thus becoming a drain on the system. So as you can see, the BIG Picture is not always clear. 9. i hear it goes good with oyster crackers. zahman fling that thing!
  10. You have not done your homework! ZAHMAN
  11. You have not done your homework! ZAHMAN
  12. AndreaJ While your posts may be alittle directional in your thoughts, it is unfortunate that some people will take advantage of that and take the oppertunity to dismantle your feelings. These people have turned out to be like their predecessors, that is unfortunate. Keep your head up, ask well informed questions, and keep striving to do your best. Eventually your path will become clear. ZAHMAN
  13. Florida, Nebraska, Tennessee, Virginia, CNA, LPN, RN, AA, CRNA, Midwife, Cosmosurg, Laser Nurse. It's ok to have goals, but you also need to have a focus. My suggestion to you would be to live life alittle, get some experience and then decide what you want to do. I can understand that you would like a career that pays well, we all do. Just have some discretion in how you present your posts. ZAHMAN
  14. Don, They got us by the privates. I need to refinance my house and pull out some equity to fund my living expenses. Fortunatly my wife will still be able to afford the mortgage while I'm in school. (If I ever get accepted) The situation is painfull because I don't want to apply for a second on my house untill I know for certain that I'm accepted, but intrest rates are going into the toilet. I spoke with the school inregards to this, their reply was "SORRY, I CAN'T TELL YOU WHERE YOU ARE ON THE LIST. JUST HANG IN THERE!." What a pain in the kiester. Well I'll just go and soak my privates and just hang in there. ZAHMAN
  15. I am on an alternate list at TWU. The anticipation, anxiety, not knowing, really SUCKS! The hardest thing is the school won't tell me where I am on the alternate list. The only response I get is "You could get called two days before the program starts." I know they have no control on who actually shows for class, but what type of crap is that! Just throw me a bone or something. Enough of the venting. Well congrats to those who got accepted and good luck for us fortunate ones who are still waiting. ZAHMAN
  16. I'm not an ER nurse, but in the ICU we have our fair share of addicts, ETOH patients. On one occasion we had a pt. who was on our unit for almost two weeks for DT's. Well, he would become beligerent, physically and verbally abusing the staff during his admission. On one occasion his abuse towards me become escalated (Seeking ativan). This particular day I called him on his bluff. I told him Mr..... I've charted that you were alert and oriented and acting appropriatly. If you decide to hit me or any of the other staff from now on I will notify the police and file charges against you. Well I got called a few choice words, but he became very cooperative with the staff and was discharged the next day. Makes me wonder if he had any warrants. ZAHMAN
  17. "GOLYTELY", now there is an oxymorone. The label should read "TREADLYTLY". ZAHMAN
  18. The technocality of the situation is that CNA's are classified as ancillary personel and that the R.N. is responsible for the CNA's actions, including charting/documentation. This is an unfortunate situation in that the LTC covers it's a** by showing through paperwork/competancies that the CNA's can perform certain tasks. The liability aspect is that the R.N. (Who ever is on that shift) must oversee the CNA's duties for that day, including proper documentation. The courts will find fault with the R.N. for not following through with proper LTC procedures/policies even if the CNA is falsifying/ommiting care. Yes, the CNA will be terminated, but the R.N. or supervising person for the day will get the wrath of the court system. In addition to reporting these people to the proper entities, I would also suggest descretly letting the charge person for the day know what is going on. (Only if you feel comfortable) ZAHMAN
  19. I am also a graduate of Regis, class of 1999. Total tuition cost were around 22,000.00 with my final semester paid for by grants. I would say that my education was excellent, but keep in mind education is only as good as your commitment. Would not suggest a ADN degree if you plan on obtaining an advanced degree in nursing. You would only end up spending more money and time to get your BSN when you could have achieved the same goal the first time around. ZAHMAN.
  20. Sounds like your on the right path. Your gpa is excellent and schools typically like gre scores to be around 1000 or better. What really is the determining factor is the interview, which can be nerve racking. I would suggest that you become CNA certified and work (if not already) in a hospital, preferable in an ICU. This exsposure will get you aquainted with the unit, manager, etc. Hopefully this will allow you to fast track into an ICU. Some hospitals will have programs for new grads. Next, when your in the BSN program, become a member of AACN, get ACLS/PALS certified, and become active in the committees your school offers. Lastly, smile, because your on your way to becoming an excellent canidate for any CRNA program. ZAHMAN People are educated, dogs are trained. Don't confuse the two. me
  21. I am in the same boat as you. My nursing school gpa was 3.5 while my science grades were 2.3. Fortunatly I was granted an interview, but was put on their alternate list. If I don't get accepted I am going to retake my chem, stats, and become ccrn certified. In addition, I will retake the gre when the stats course is over. Hope this info helps. ZAHMAN
