I wasn't aiming this at you specifdically. I apologize for the misunderstanding.

How about audism? A prejudice belief of those who cannot hear, their culture, and their language? Or the belief that one who can hear is more intelligent and educatable than his or her deaf counterparts.

Prove me that. A deaf man is under your care in a med/surge unit.. He is bed ridden and he is showing obvious signs of communication difficulty. How do you properly handle this situation?

Their concerns were prejudice. While they may not know any better from lack of education in disability discrimination, their concerns were irrelevant. Do you think I haven't 'heard' it all already? I know MY ability, those posting my topics with with such negativity do not. How do you think that saying things such as, "I'd never want to be treated by a deaf nurse," or, "I'd never risk my license for a deaf nurse" Are going to help me? You are forcing your own blatant discrimination down my throat. You are trying with udder failure to dissuade me, discourage me, and take away my destiny. I laugh at your pitiful attempts. Those who preach such BS only make themselves look like arrogant @$$3$.

I'm surprised to see such blatant prejudice and ignorance on this supposedly professional forum. There are specialties where a deaf nurse can function with little to no accomodations. There are technologies the state vocational rehabilitation will pay for to keep me employed in my profession. To think that not being able to hear would place my patients in any more harm than with some of the whackos with all five of their senses practicing heakthcare is absurd. People clearly need to be taught the true meaning of disability discrimination. But know this, if I ever come up to you seeking employment or education and you deny me them based on my disability, I have no problem taking you to court if it means paving a path for other disabled nurses. Shame on you. You'll find that what seperates me from the rest is that I press on when things are looking grim and I am scared, uncertain, and alone. Past impossibility, into the realms of achievement because I'm on a mission from God, and you can't take that honor away from me.

There are technologies that can me attached to the alarm system and vibrate for me. The only problem, as I hjave mentioned, is a patient calling out. That's it. The only problem.

My nursing school, by law, must accept and accomodate me. The stethoscope displays pulse, heart, ecg, bowel, lung, ekg, etc.

I have other similar technologies. The only thing I can't get around is a patient screaming for me.

I'm well versed on the Americans with Disabilities Act. Aside from that, there are unique technologies I can use to hear for me. Her only complaint was me not being able to hear a patient scream for me.

I own a stethoscope that displays such information on a high quality lcd screen.

Because I was a patient first. I've been on the recieving end of the IV. I know how it feels and I believe that will make me a superior healer.

Nevermind disability law, I'd rather not learn from a biased group of audistic (prejudice against the deaf) of individuals. Well, Mrs. *****, I don't care if YOU don't think I can become a CNA, much less an RN. I will both and you can have a front row seat in the losers; circle to see me obtain both certifications / licenses. Rant /

you're sure to make an adequate ammount to live modestly comfortable as an rn., assuming you don't live in iowa or florida.

There's a flaew in every logical concept. Iowa is probably the worse nursing state in the country.

This thread has really gone a little far out of place. I was asking for less obvious things I shouldn't do. Pulling out IVs and having sex with the elderly for money is just a little obvious. Aside from that, my question remains unanswered. May I hug the residents under my care?

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. Let me elaborate. Does a person who can purchase a three bedroom house in one state need to make the same ammount as a person who can purchase an exact replica of said house for twice the ammount in a higher priced state? Like it or not, the cost of living influences your paycheck. In California where homes are more expensive, nurses earn more to cover those costs of living than nurses in Arkansaswhere the cost of living is very modest. This is simple economics. Where you live and how much it costs to live there influences your earning potential.

I was told by the forum I shouldn't lie in bed next to the patient because of infection risks. I doubt I would have anyway, but can I still hug the residents? What are some inappropriate things you've seen CNA's do that I shouldn't pick up?

They never stop moving. I love that. I hate sitting all day. The lady I shadowed was a VERY gifted care giver. She has amazing people skills. She loves and nurtures those residents as if they were her own children. Giving them hugs and kisses, dancing with them, even climbing into bed to lie next to them. She is such an inspiration to my own aspirations. I saw it all! Butt wiping, catheters, bed sores, crabby charge nurses who talk [bleep] out of their [bleep], and I loved it all! The personal level you get with residents is such an honor to have. I still have to prove that I can get to a fallen resident without being able to hear the alarm. The CNA's work in pairs so this really isn't a danger. If I keep myself moving and see when the red light in front of the door is flashing (bathroom help) or the yellow light (regular help), I'll be fine. I WILL become a CNa, an RN, and a positive male role model for children. Just remember this, Allnurses: I am NOT to good to wipe an old man's butt, and I say it proudly. :)

No, you should not be a donor unless you specifically request to be. I don't think the government should have the power to take what isn't theirs, even with good intentions. I do, however, wish more people would sign up to donate their organs after death. It's not like you're gonna need them.

It's a hard law to enforce. Many educators and employers are that way.
