  1. Nevermind disability law, I'd rather not learn from a biased group of audistic (prejudice against the deaf) of individuals. Well, Mrs. *****, I don't care if YOU don't think I can become a CNA, much less an RN. I will both and you can have a front ro...
  2. Nursing Home will not accept deaf students into their CNA course

I wasn't aiming this at you specifdically. I apologize for the misunderstanding.
  3. RACISM BY PATIENTS???

How about audism? A prejudice belief of those who cannot hear, their culture, and their language? Or the belief that one who can hear is more intelligent and educatable than his or her deaf counterparts.
  4. Nursing Home will not accept deaf students into their CNA course

Prove me that. A deaf man is under your care in a med/surge unit.. He is bed ridden and he is showing obvious signs of communication difficulty. How do you properly handle this situation?
  5. Is there anything at all about nursing that you don't like?

I don't like having to rely on prejudice individuals who don't believe in my potential.
  6. Nursing Home will not accept deaf students into their CNA course

Their concerns were prejudice. While they may not know any better from lack of education in disability discrimination, their concerns were irrelevant. Do you think I haven't 'heard' it all already? I know MY ability, those posting my topics with with...
  7. "You are NOT overqualified to show empathy for the patient! Now get in there and wipe his butt!"
  8. Nursing Home will not accept deaf students into their CNA course

I'm surprised to see such blatant prejudice and ignorance on this supposedly professional forum. There are specialties where a deaf nurse can function with little to no accomodations. There are technologies the state vocational rehabilitation will pa...
  9. Nursing Home will not accept deaf students into their CNA course

There are technologies that can me attached to the alarm system and vibrate for me. The only problem, as I hjave mentioned, is a patient calling out. That's it. The only problem.
  10. Nursing Home will not accept deaf students into their CNA course

My nursing school, by law, must accept and accomodate me. The stethoscope displays pulse, heart, ecg, bowel, lung, ekg, etc.
  11. Nursing Home will not accept deaf students into their CNA course

I have other similar technologies. The only thing I can't get around is a patient screaming for me.
  12. Nursing Home will not accept deaf students into their CNA course

I'm well versed on the Americans with Disabilities Act. Aside from that, there are unique technologies I can use to hear for me. Her only complaint was me not being able to hear a patient scream for me.
  13. Nursing Home will not accept deaf students into their CNA course

I own a stethoscope that displays such information on a high quality lcd screen.
  14. How did you discover you want to do this?

Because I was a patient first. I've been on the recieving end of the IV. I know how it feels and I believe that will make me a superior healer.
  15. Can RNs really make this much?

you're sure to make an adequate ammount to live modestly comfortable as an rn., assuming you don't live in iowa or florida.
  16. Can RNs really make this much?

There's a flaew in every logical concept. Iowa is probably the worse nursing state in the country.
  17. I was told by the forum I shouldn't lie in bed next to the patient because of infection risks. I doubt I would have anyway, but can I still hug the residents? What are some inappropriate things you've seen CNA's do that I shouldn't pick up?
  18. Inappripriate things you've seen a CNA do?

My Lord... I just may cry. :'(
  19. Inappripriate things you've seen a CNA do?

This thread has really gone a little far out of place. I was asking for less obvious things I shouldn't do. Pulling out IVs and having sex with the elderly for money is just a little obvious. Aside from that, my question remains unanswered. May I hug...
  20. Can RNs really make this much?

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. Let me elaborate. Does a person who can purchase a three bedroom house in one state need to make the same ammount as a person who can purchase an exact replica of said house for twice the ammount in a hig...
  21. Shadowing a CNA

You can read my first thread here to see what I'm talking about: https://allnurses.com/general-nursing-discussion/i-must-gifted-458031.html I shadowed a CNA for six hours, a busy morning shift! WOW! They never stop moving. I love that. I hate sitting...
  22. Shadowing a CNA

Oh, ok. Thanks for the heads up.
  23. CPR certification

You should have been certified long before you enrolled in med alassistant course.
  24. I must be gifted, I made the DON cry

Before you precede to beat me like a pinata, let me share my story. The nursing home that offers a CNA class I want to take, does not want me to take it. The DON is absolutely certain a deaf man cannot be a CNA, much less an RN. However, I held my gr...
  25. Clarifying the role of a hospital CNA

I must write a letter the the administration of my rural town hospital explaining how a deaf CNA can perform his duties. I'd appreciate it if you could help me understand the role of a hospital CNA better. Thanks.
