positive BAC
Women in general have less of the enzyme needed to break down alcohol (Alcohol dehydrogenase). Aside from that one must wonder the high BAC after 12 hours. I would have to ask if your daughter drinks on a frequent basis as a high BAC may indicate a sick liver. Have your daughter go to a doctor for a liver test (Simple blood draw).

Any point in fighting NA requirement?
I wrote this paper awhile back, perhaps it may help some. Please be gentle if you don't like what I write. My Quest, In Search of my Higher Power By Michael As I start this arduous journey into a long since forgotten place called sobriety I am much like a young toddler as I begin taking my first steps. I have successfully placed a foothold on the first cobble as I have come to realize that much like Bill's story, I am quite powerless over alcohol, and I have relinquished all thoughts of that ever changing. I have found the trestle across the next step to be uncertain for me. That is not to say I am a man of atheistic belief; however, my pragmatic views of the world leave me with a quandary. By definition, religion is "a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe." Indeed religion and the worship of deity's dates back to paleo-man some 15,000 years ago as the cave paintings of Lascaux France offer evidence to support this. From the first cuneiform writings of the ancient Assyrians, Babylonians, and Persians to the more advanced forms of writings of the Egyptians and Greeks, religious writings have been the cornerstone of all these past nations of antiquity. Anthropologically speaking, much of religion was used to explain the unexplainable such as, great natural disasters or a bountiful crop, but more importunately and quite a common denominator of all these belief systems were; ethics, morality, laws or a code of conduct if you will. Belief in a creator need not be relevant to understand the great wisdom passed down over the past several millennia. I believe I am ready to reach that second cobble, or step as I now know my higher power. There is an old idiom, "knowledge is power" to be enlightened by knowledge elevates ones power. Sitting amongst all these people that have already traveled the steps I know embark on hold great knowledge to empower me to brave the walk across each step. Amen and undeniably, I have found my higher power; it is all these souls sitting before me in this sanctuary from addiction. GOD, Giver of Direction.

How long did it take you to get caught?
I am sorry to muddy the waters and detract from your otherwise good post, but this has yet to be proven. If it had then an addict would not be viewed as they are currently viewed. ie. "I just been diagnosed with cancer" "OMG, I am so sorry" v.s. "I am an addict" " Well get your act in order loser" I am of the belief that addiction is not yet considered a disease by many, and as such a stigma still clings. I have yet to see definitive proof that it is. For me as a former multi addict, I think I was just being plain selfish and desired self gratification. Not so sure I can blame my DNA on this one.

MATH and trying to learn it
I would suggest that you go to your local community college, have your math level accessed and enroll in an appropriate math course based on your test results. Sure, you might have to take a remedial math class or two but I think math is an essential tool that a nurse must use. Don't feel bad about not having a strong grip at math because you can change that. Good Luck

What to do about work versus pre-req's?
There is always the option of online classes, not sure about chemistry since they always require the useless lab. Perhaps some online have a home lab you can do as well. If you search hard enough, I am sure you can find one somewhere. Might not be cheap though. --------------edit----------------------- I just found this link https://allnurses.com/forums/f125/onl...cky-88965.html

Finding a new sponsor
Of course you are right, it is a very important topic and paramount in the healing process. I say healing because addiction is an illness that produces a wound deep inside and it begins to fester and contaminate our being. Only through the healing process do we help suture the deep wounds that addiction inflicts on ones soul.

Finding a new sponsor
Oops, I just noticed that this thread is about a year old...

Finding a new sponsor
First your sponsor should be same gender as you, second they should have much more than 16 mo. sobriety. There are many meetings taking place (If your in big city) so look around for a meeting that you feel comfortable with. Nothing wrong with an AA meeting, an addict is an addict, it does not matter. Don't look for a sponsor that is going to be your buddy, look for one that knows all your BS and has been there and has done that. They are usually the wise and quiet ones. When you meet someone suited to be your sponsor you will know it. Good luck...

Math Anxiety Advice
Math anxiety is the result of a weak math background for whatever reason. It is unfortunate that this most fundamental and important aspect of ones knowledge base is overlooked until college years. Be that as it may, the college instructor is left with the dilemma of supplementing a students shortcomings, or taking the position of too bad, so sad for you. I assume you are assuming the former attitude I mentioned since you did pose this question. Did I ever have math anxiety? Most certainly yes as I was maybe at a 5th grade level when I took my math assessment exam in college. After 2 attempts at college algebra I thought it was hopeless but after much effort I did pass and also passed applied calculus. This I would have to say was due to a teacher that went above and beyond the call of duty as he gave me lessons on the weekend using his free time. I will always be grateful for that. Now I am not suggesting you take this approach, but what I am suggesting is that you make yourself available at office hours for students that need a little one on one time. Perhaps you can have a member of your school math help center come to class and explain their services and how the math center works. It may seem obvious but many students are not aware that certain help such as a math center are available. I will end with the worst thing you can do to someone with math anxiety is ask them to work a problem on the board in front of everybody. This happened to me once and I did not like it at all. I will try to think of things I used to help my math skills and post em later...Good luck

Flashcard suggestions for A&P class
My professor gave Essay type questions only, so flash cards were of little use. I found that teaching someone else what I was learning helped me the most.

Stethoscope Review
I found this review on 12 stethoscope models ranging from $19.00 to over $160.00 I found it a very quantitative review as things like frequency response were tested. At any rate I found the review useful and thought I would share it, and forgive me if this link has already been posted. Acoustic Stethoscope Review Page 1, Best Stethoscope, Omron Sprague Rappaport, Littmann Cardiology III review, Stethoscope Review, Allheart, ADC Adscope, DRG Puretone, Littmann Cardiology, Master Classic II, Classic II SE,Omron, Prestige Sprague Rapppaport, Welch Allen Harvey Tycos Elite BTW, the winner was The Littmann Cardiology III this one is a bit pricey, but considering it is a tool of the trade, I would spend the extra cash.

Organic chemistry anybody?
I to was a biochem major and am often surprised with the complaining about gen chem by nursing students. For biochem we had to take a 200 level two semester gen chem course where nursing only require a 100 level single semester course. I discovered that after molecular bio and several semesters of gen chem that classes like physiology were easy and somewhat felt remedial. I guess that extra year spent in school was not a waste after all. BTW, if anyone needs help with chem problems, post em on this forum, I will be glad to lend a hand in assisting you.

homeostasis is functionally wrong??
At first when I read this question, I thought; what a goofy question. After some thought however, I have taken a different outlook. Looking at the word homeostasis and examining the root origins of the word we see that Homeo is Greek for same, Stasis is also Greek and translates into standing still. The combination of these two roots would immediatly hint to something that remains constant or maintains constancy. So first reaction might be to think the question is bogus. If we reflect on this further and continue reading the question, "constancy of the internal environment?" The term environment becomes a clue, as given by definition environment - "The totality of circumstances surrounding an organism" Ah! totality is a key to our argument, albeit a homeostatic mechanism does function to maintain a particular aspect of the internal environment within the body, it is not all encompassing of the whole environment, eg. a homeostatic mechanism only regulates a single parameter within a total environment and regulation of the total inner environment incorporates the multitude of many individual homeostatic mechanisms. Well, I am not sure if that helps, but that is all I got...:) The remaining portions of the prompt seem to be self explanatory.

Beginner's guide to dosage calculations
Although they might not teach this in your course, I would recommend that you become an Obi won Kenobi, Jedi master of dimensional analysis. Armed with this tool, you will have your own light saber orificenal for any dosage class. Just my opinion though. Have a read at this link. http://www.alysion.org/dimensional/analysis.htm

Navy or Army nursing
If I were you, I would look into the Air force. They have the best bases, good chow halls and overall better quality of quarters. I served in the Navy and was stationed at a Marine base at one time. In the Navy you may find yourself on a ship which is no cruise liner, in the Army you can find yourself in some sort of MASH unit. AF will most likely put you in an actual building. I guess it depends on what you want, if your into adventure and such, the Navy might be the way to go. Army, well I dunno about that.

hi can you please give me your opinon on my nursing essay
Well, I am no writer but I tried to take a crack at rewriting your first paragraph. See below. Your version------------------------------------------------------------------- As I’m standing there with my father being told by the doctor that my mother has severe kidney stone and has to undergo major surgery right this minute, was the shock and freight of the moment. My father at the time spoke very limited amount of English. I, myself was too young and didn’t speak any English to comprehend what the doctor was saying about my mother’s condition. Standing there, watching my mother tossed and turned in agonizing pain, made my body cold and numb. I felt so useless and confused as there was nothing I can do to alleviate her discomfort. My father stood there somberly, Just taking in what the doctor had said and held my mother’s hands tight for that was the only support he could give. After the doctor takes his leave, my father began to cry and prayed to god, hoping the surgery would go well as planned and to protect my mother all the way. Rewrite -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After hearing the news about my mother’s condition from her doctor, my father and I felt helpless and shocked, urgent kidney surgery was something we never had expected. As I did not speak English at the time the news was delivered to me by my father you see; somehow this made my anxiety much worse. The vision of my mother writhing in pain was just too much to see as my legs weakened in utter fear. The pain was not lessened as my father grasped my mothers hand and he began to weep as the doctor left the room. It was then that father and I would pray. end edit------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Problem with the original and the rewrite is that neither intro conveys an essay thesis which is essential for this sort of paper. The thesis statement tells the reader what the essay will be about, and what point you, the author, will be making. This is never made clear until almost the end of the paper. The essay needs to state why you want to be a nurse in first paragraph. You can make your thesis statement in second paragraph if needed, but one must be careful not to lose the reader. You need to remember that your writing an essay as to why you want to be a nurse, and you need to state this in first or second paragraph. Think of it this way, when you look at a newspaper, which stories do you read first? I would guess the one with the most interesting headline. Well, your thesis is your headline, so keep that in mind. That's my input. Rework the paper so your thesis is made early, and then your supporting paragraphs should follow. End with a conclusion.
