  1. The RPN job market after school

It took me about six weeks of firing off resumes to all the RPN jobs in my area, (southwest Ontario), to get hired part time in a retirement facility. After working three months at that facility I took a full time position. After gaining experience...
  2. RPN or RN?

If you're sure that you want to be an RN then that's the path that you should pursue. The bridges from RPN to RN take 2-3 years full time or 4-5 years part time after you've become an RPN.
  3. Med-Surg book Recommendations?

My program uses Brunner & Suddarth's Textbook of Canadian Medical-Surgical Nursing (2nd Ed., ISBN-13: 978-0-7817-9989-8. It is also a beast - it's very comprehensive and most of it is relevant, not a terrible read in my opinion.
  4. Nursing Diagnosis/Medical Diagnosis Question :)

Just my two cents - I would tie the nursing diagnosis (e.g. impaired physical mobility) to the treatment (amputation) of the medical condition (Osteomyelitis): Impaired physical Mobility r/t amputation of toe d/t Osteomyelitis.
  5. Curious...how many 'survivors' at the end?

Wrapping up my third semester of five. There are about ninety of the original hundred left.
  6. Nursing School as an Older Student

I`ve found that as an older student my prior learning, life experience and ability to keep things in perspective give me a distinct advantage over most of my younger classmates. It sounds like you know that nursing is what you want to do so go for ...
  7. PPD

As I understand it the size of the raised area from the skin test is key, not all of the redness. If there is any doubt they will send you for a chest xray. There is also a gold standard serology test, gamma interferon I think, that can definitivel...
  8. Consider taking a look at distance learning. I upgraded some high school courses through the Independent Learning Centre: Independent Learning | Distance Education | ILC.org The courses are cheap and you can do them at your own pace, I did them wh...
  9. Hey Firey, This thread is four years old, it's bleedin' demised. You'll probably get a better response by creating a new thread. :)
  10. Endocrine System

I wrote everything on index cards: the major glands, control centres (e.g. pituitary, hypothalamus), hormones, target organs/tissues, and physiological effects. I would then arrange the cards into feedback loops.
  11. Cheating

I would have given her the opportunity (ultimatum) to turn herself in. If she didn't within a very narrow window I would have reported her as you did. Perhaps her sending a retraction email to those she requested the answers from and coming forward...
  12. What money can get you.

I give her a year as a nurse max. Then she'll be able to brag about her humanitarian work at cocktail parties. Don't let it burn you, she'll get what she deserves in the end.
  13. What does a male nurse practioner do?

Curiosity is overwhelming me...may I ask how old you are and how far along you are in your plans for world domin...uh... get a big car via nursing? Have you started a program yet?
  14. Jobs at the Sunshine coast

I believe OP is referring to the Sunshine Coast in B.C. Could an admin move this to the Canadian forum please?
  15. MEN IN NURSING

It's pretty ironic that you respond to a thread about discrimination with what to me seem to be broad assumptions and racial/cultural stereotypes. If you know Tarang personally I offer my apologies, I wasn't able to glean that from your post.
  16. Help from Windsor nurses

Seemed obvious to me given that all the other Windsors are tiny.
  17. Help with General Chemistry

I'd recommend you check out Khan academy. It's a very approachable resource that offers free lessons on a wide variety of topics including about a hundred chemistry topics. Check it out: Khan Academy
  18. Nurse Practitioner?

Take a look at the Advanced Practice Nursing specialty forum. This topic has been covered many times. For example: Becoming an NP with little to no nursing experience?? - Nursing for Nurses
  19. Rn Health requirements?

It seems to me like Alicia's getting piled on here pretty hard. While I understand and agree with the general sentiment expressed in previous posts I'm not sure that it's fair to assume that Alicia is being insensitive to or prejudiced against peopl...
  20. immigrant nurses

Sounds to me like all y'all need to learn to talk 'merican. Sorry, I don't understand your question either...care to re-phrase?
  21. Horrible at word problems

To be totally frank Cerda I'm not sure what the purpose of your post is. You obviously have a good handle on the answer to this question, the algebraic solution that you used to solve this problem (2a+20=240) was elegant and correct. I'm really no...
  22. Why do some people assume NS is easy?

Breathe Rosie, breathe...and hit that capslock button. :)
  23. How to make studying less boring

If it's just memorization, e.g. anatomy, I like PurposeGames.com - Create Play Online Games. They let you make matching/labelling games or you can use games that other people have already created. For example: Label the Heart I also like getting o...
  24. Hey Jean, I'd recommend starting with the sticky thread located at the top of the Canadian forum. ***Internationally Educated Nurses: VERY IMPORTANT - READ THIS FIRST*** - Nursing for Nurses
  25. Hospital Technology Question

How about a thumb print ID? They're not super expensive anymore (they come standard with some laptops) and you get the security of a password with the convenience of a swipe card...and they're hard to forget at home.
