Lacharity Book
I am taking nclex next friday, the 16th and I have been doing the case studies in the lacharity book today. All I can say is WOOOOW. I haven't been doing very well on a lot of them and now I am starting to get extremely stressed. I am horrible at the sata's. I either pick one too many or leave one out. I was wondering if anyone had any advice. I am setting here and I am almost in tears I am so worried. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!:crying2:

I am officially done with nursing school!!!
marshpit23, the best advice I can give you is to get an NCLEX book, I got the Saunders Comprehensive 4th edition and it has content with questions after each chapter and it also has a disk with a ton of questions. I would start from the begining doing NCLEX questions to get use to the format. I wish you all the best of look during your journey through nursing school!!!:)

I am officially done with nursing school!!!
I took my Hesi exit exam today and passed on the first time! I can't tell you how much of a burden that has lifted off of my shoulders! I know I still have to take the NCLEX, but at least I get to sit for boards. I can actually do things with my family and not be so stressed!! WOOOOHOOOO!!!!

Calculation question
This is how our teachers taught us to do critical drips. You have to begin by converting the lbs to kg. 98lb/2.2 kg = 44.545454 kg. Then you take the kgx60xvolume/concentration, you must convert the mg to mcg. 44.54x60x500/400000 = 3.3405 and the multiply by the mcg 3.3405x6mcg = 20.043; 20 ml/hr. Forumula = kg x 60 x volume/concentration x mcg I hope this helps!

Safety Glasses in the OR ???
I have been a scrubtech for 10 yrs and always wear goggles b/c I can't tell you how many times I have been coughed on in the face when a patient is waking up, blood squirted on me just to mention a few. Some hospitals it is mandatory and others it is a choice, but IMHO it is smart to use the protection to protect yourself from unwanted diseases!

Hesi exit exam
We were required to buy the HESI study book and our instructors said we needed to study a subject each week up until the test. We are supposed to have a few study sessions but I'm not sure what they will be about.

Hesi exit exam
Does anyone have any advice on how to study for this exam? We only get three chances and this test scares me to death! Any advice would be appreciated!!!

Speculum burn???
I have been a scrub tech for 10 yrs and when an instrument is that hot it would have had to have just come out of the autoclave. I always cool those instruments down with saline and have refused to give an imstrent to a surgeon due to it being too hot! Anything is possible though because one of our RNs accidentally burnt a patient with a saline bottle that had been in the top of our warmer. He used it to prop the patient's arm up while scrubbing the arm.

bumex vs lasix
When we were discussing kidney failure for our last test, one of our instructors told us they give Lasix and Bumex together because the Bumex makes the Lasix work better.
-
Any body else totally burned out?
I am in my last semester, which is critical care, and I have a test on Friday and just can't seem to retain anything I have been studying. This semester has been really stressful, I have put off my whole family, don't get much sleep, spend hours and hours on clinical paperwork and have anxiety like never before. Sorry to ramble on, but I know other people in nursing school are the only people that really understand! I have a huge support system and my husband is my personal cheerleader, but I am a type A personality and I am definetly guilty of wanting everything to be perfect. I am way too hard on myself and don't know how to change that.

ID10T NS questions....... ***VENT***
Our instructors in critical care have told us not to read into the question and pick your answer according to exactly what they ask and if they don't provide that extra information you mentioned don't factor that in. I would have picked C because the mom is breastfeeding. I think teachers believe we can read their minds and know what kind of mood their in when they make these tests!! I think they should use nclex questions from books and they would probably make more since! Just my two cents!

Patient on a Ventilator
Thanks for the reply. I finally figured it out. They would need to increase the PEEP in order to decrease the FiO2 being given to the patient.
-
Patient on a Ventilator
I had a pt. on a ventilator and I am having to interpret his labs. The pt. had a high PaO2 and I am having trouble figuring out why. Pt.'s ph was 7.38, HCO3 20.1 and CO2 22. Any advice would be helpful!!

what accommodations have you made in your life to prepare for a nursing program
I think organization is very important!! Find a system that works for you and stick to it through your entire nursing program!! I always mark all the pages with the little sticky tabs and write the pages and subject on each one that way I don't waste time flipping through my book looking for pages. I know that might sound silly, but in nursing school every second, minute and hour count. Figure out how you study best alone, in a group, writing note cards, writing your notes over and over. Buy a good NCLEX book and start doing questions to help you prepare for the types of questions you will encounter on the nursing tests. I also agree that you definetly need to take time for yourself every once in awhile, because if you don't you will end up extremely stressed! Good luck in your endeavour in nursing school!!!

Unclogging a g-tube
I have seen a few G-tubes unclogged with Coke and it worked everytime!!
-
Does it get better?
I have been a surgical tech. in a large OR for 10 yrs. and am currently in nursing school. I have to say you are going to encounter some nurses who are unhappy about everything and could care less whether you learn anything or not and then there will be those like my best friend that is a nurse and she would teach anybody willing to learn anything they wanted to know. I always just tried to ignore those that were never happy with anything!
-
what nurses do in this situation?
I am a nursing student and they have always taught us the patient has the right to refuse any care, treatment, or medication if they are of sound mind. I had a patient refuse a pain med last week and we just documented it in the computer as refused. If it were me and I didn't want to take something I wouldn't want to be forced to take it, just my opinion.

What grade is "passing" in your nursing school??
We have to have a 78 to pass.
