  1. I love this big apple too! I have to say there are more jobs opportunities here, more people on public insurance so there are many health institutions that hire nurses. As far as a door man job I am waiting on line for that one, imagine no liabilities and did I forget to mention they are union! Lol
  2. Hi La'Monique, You will pass this test and become a great nurse soon! I believe you are focusing too much in the "passing" of this test than is intended purpose which is to know "how sound your nursing judgement is, and how developed are your critical thinking skills. Nothing more".
  3. Do you think you should be paying a "door man" in NYC $55.00 an hour to open the door for you but not a least that much to a nurse for cleaning your a$$ and for potentially saving your life? remember nurses are at the bedside "vigilant" looking out for you life... I'm just saying this to illustrate a point because my cousin is a door man in NYC making mega dinero, and all he does is greets you every time you enter in or out of your building and hold the door for you. In Christmas time (holiday season), his tips alone can allow him to live rent free for a couple of months, but us nurses not even a bonus from the health institution! what is wrong with this picture!!!!!!! LOL
  4. New York City!! No such thing as a nursing shortage! Health and hospital corporations are overworking their few nurses!!! yes pay is good but not that good when you doing the job of 3 nurses!!
  5. Hi Delorem, It seems like she has a grandiose personality as well and you are the perfect person for her "quick fix" I got sick and tire of this type of behavior and me being the target... now I fight back "I nip it in the butt" the first time it happens and I am not afraid to point out their behavior even in front of others so they can also get a little be of their own medicine, It works like magic, and yes we all want to be "nice, professional, well-like, christian like, yes we try to look the other way, give our cheek for people to keep slapping it, pray on it, put it in God's hands, talk to managers, the dog, the cat, talk to ourselves in the car in our way back home... and you know what? they will continue to mess with you because you allow it. Sometimes you have to mirror their behavior back to them! because believe it or not they also have feelings, even if they seem thick skin. I am sorry but this is what works for me, also I have observed how this bullies pick and choose their victims they do know who is going to give them a run for their money and who is going to become their pet! One disclaimer I am not telling you that you need to be aggressive, I am far from that but you must be super, super FIRM so they know you are not the one!!!
  6. In my facility in NYC-NY BSN get 10,000 more a year!!!!
  7. OMG!!! You must report these illegal practices to your state BON, and remember as nurses we have the unique challenge to protect the quality of life of those who come into our care! I hope you do the right thing and don't conform because of a pay check. Good Luck!
  8. If you are a nurse that bullies others SHAME, SHAME AND SHAME on you! Grow up, build up your self-esteem or better yet get a counselor! because I can guarantee you that you'll meet your match and you would not like it. Remember what goes around comes around! My advice- be professional, respectful, cordial and a team player, our common goal is patient care and safety.
  9. I am so happy that you are very determine to reach this new educational goal in your life, please listen to your heart and remeber no one knows you better than yourself, learn as much as you can, read beyond your required chapters and be the first one to try a new skill in your class. CNA's are wonderful at interacting and providing within their scope patient care, for sure you can benefit at a large scale if you become one, but if not good luck in your role as a student LPN.
  10. $25 an hour NYC /methadone/DOT

  14. Hello everyone, I also want to confirm that pvt really works, I took my exam on Friday @8:00Am by 10:30Am I was done and doing the PVT, I was nervous but thank GOD my divine God that I got the good pop up..of course I read about 1,000 comments for reassurance... I was still feeling nervous... I re-checked about 10 times over the weekend to see if I was still getting the good pop up then finally I was able to pay my money and see the "unofficial" results...what a wonderful view I read in my status the wonderful word "PASS" God to you the glory!!!!!!! so yes pvt worked for me!!!!!
  15. I am very sorry you are going trough this messy situation. Get the school policies in writing, write a letter to the professor explaining your position and acknowledging your passion for nursing and how strong you felt to that mission statement you revised from the internet, in the same letter request a meeting with her and other top school officials (get their names) also cc this letter to everyone you can think of, get the media involved if you must and create some wave for the school and for this professor. Ultimately get some legal advice. In the other hand you could have said in the words of so and so I see my vision reflected blah, blah, .... You know you need to quote your sources. I will be mad if someone use my research papers and pass them as theirs. Good luck, keep us informed.
  16. there are no excuses in the world to explain this behavior. i feel they are intimidated by your confidence, your enthusiasm and the proper techniques you are implementing. remember safety is first. your obligation is to safeguard your patients and do no harm. yes it is necessary to have a good relationship with your peers, to be respected as a professional and to gain their trust but you need their respect and support for who you really are not because you need to simulate their behavior. you can also play stupid and cheerful by asking these nurses their rationale for doing things or by given them compliments when you think they have done a good job at something or by telling them that you value their experience and dedication. i learned people like to be recognized for their efforts. you might even say in a meeting that so and so helped you with a difficult patient or similar situation, recognizing their contribution in public, you look humble and they look like true dedicated professionals. hope it helps.
  17. i am a nursing student, but work as a rmt at ny largest correctional facilities and perhaps the biggest in the nation. i love my job and the interaction i have with the patients and the staff. in terms of security you have plenty of that, correctional staff is always available to back you up 100% more so than your own nursing management. in terms of the patients/inmates they behave in your presence, they scare for what is happening to them, stress out, so when you assist them with compassion and dignity they appreciate that because everyone else there would treat them like crap. once in a while you may find one or two who want to try your nerves usually teenagers but once you speak to them they mellow out and even cry and thank you for the "talk" one rule of mine, i don't want to know why they are in for because i want to be non-judgmental, since we all have our own value system. i want to serve the patient/client/inmate in front of me and not feel guilty for their victims or whatever wrongdoing they committed, but sometimes you are taking care of a patient/inmate that you saw in the news the night before so you need to be able to be prepare to deal with that.
