  1. can you apply before you have your prereqs done lets say your in your last one?? ive heard from a nurse in her 3rd semester you can.. i mean the core pre reqs... like i want to apply now im taking phys in the summer.. not sure though. ive heard from her that your not going to wait a three semester.. it usually is 2 so i think youll get in after a semester.. =)
  2. congrats to all of you.. although im a bit jealous because ill be applying in the spring im happy and proud for you guys... all that hard work you all deserve it... to say the least. congrats again
  3. i heard there program is like boot camp once you graduate from there your like a top notch nurse.. creme de la creme can you guys get a bsn if you should choose to go further? Good luck to all of you that applied im sure youll have greate training there
  4. i took mine at North Valley Occupational Center.. i think its in mission hills.. back then wayyy back then costed me about 500 bucks. i believe they too offer an LVN program. hope that helps.
  5. unless anyone knows of schools that will take you if you are just waiting to get into the rn program.. but have most of the pre reqs and upperdivision classes done.. i wonder if thats possible..
  6. yeah i guess.. but the problem is that i pretty much need a bs in something.. and the classes i can take for the bsn are only about 4.. but i must take it at the campus site.. its much easier to get a rn to bsn then to try and get a bsn.. so im thinking of maybe taking that psych developmental class and applying for the lottery.. ill be done with every pre req come fall.. but able to apply for the program come fall as well.. (ideally only need 3 more classes.) sociology, physiology and stats i think the pre reqs for the PA are quite similar as well

  8. well the schools that are around me require you to have the liscense already... the wait list is even longer for the universities.. ive thought about perhaps a PA they pay pretty well but not to sure... still thoughts on Med school.. but i figured id move up gradually
  9. im new to this thread.. ive noticed that all of you have your prereqs done and just hoping or have recieved your letters.. congrats to all of you.. i only consider myself a hopeful because i can PUT in my application this fall.. but not really hopefull =( you guys are wayyyy ahead of me.. i wonder what year i can call myself a hopeful lol.. the school i want is approximately a 3 semester waiting list. and a few others are lottery.. i guess i can try for those but idk.. and they are good schools.. but again idk.. i can only imagine how many apps they get... and im a half empty cup type of person i like difinitive answers... which is what i like numbers
  10. if you aced anp in 8 weeks you can definately do micro.. its a little memorization but not nearly as much as ap ive never had to study so long for a freaking test.. in my anatomy class ive already put in 30 hours on the first test.. =/ youll do fine for micro but also it depends on the teacher you should look at ratemyprofessor.. if the teacher is hard i would only assume hell be harder in that course.. but maybe hell go easy because its 8 weeks.. but i doubt it.. if you should choose to do that id recommend learning about the worms.. gram - and gram + bacteria and the test you should do to eliminate that.. that will save you a lot of time when you get there..
  11. well if your dream is to be an RN there is no running around the classes.. wether you take them now become a lpn you still have to take english micro anatomy phys etc... you get grants for school i thought you get more that.. but you can still get loans at leat... apply for stafford loans unsub or sub.. that can help but if were you id just take the classes and knock them out of the way.. with the economy classes like that will be cut more and more and become harder to get to...
  12. you do need chemistry for micro in my school.. and it is somewhat necessary to have it.. when u put the equation for cellular respiration and they are like c6 h6 ?? what does all that mean.. having that background helps.... and in bio.. when in my lecture are first portion of the first test is based on organells of the cell and their function. the teacher doesnt go over that in class she assumes you already and should known that from bio 101
  13. Shhh scene safety and bsi.. I'm a EMT-P .. EMT I believe is more than a CNA.. You critical thinking surpasses CNA level.. I don't think they know about diabetic kedo acidosis how to manage a patient with a c spine hypovolemic shock etc.. Medical trauma patients.. CNA never taught me that.. We have general knowlede for lot of situations. I'm not in the program but II believe a EMT basic is stronger than CNA and I'd say paramedic is comparable to Lvn. It's cool you posted this though I didn't know there were so many emt
  14. im soo applying to hear after i finish phys this summer.. what i find lame though is that they require two psych classes.. =( but i guess its better than waiting a year and half at AVC if i can get in
  15. AL what school do you go to?
  16. ill be taking my last prereq this summer.. Physiology.. i will wish you the best of luck.. and dont for once think its an easy course.. you will need at least 2 solid hours a day to do well
  17. Thats a really bad idea....ill give you some good reasons... most people have a hard time just taking ap by itself.. the drop out rate is extremely high.. now you are putting THAT class in the SUMMER where you get HALF the time and still the same amount of work.. then add that to a Math class.. you will be getting test every week i bet.. thats extremely time consuming and a daunting task.. if i were you id take math in the fall. math is something you need to completely understand but not a primary priority. as long as you take it before you graduate you are fine. im taking anatomy right now... i study 5 hours a day. i can only imagine how many more hours ill be studying in the summer. get your sciences done first since those are the classes that harder to get into. thats just my opinion
  18. Congrats.. but why did they accept you in two years?? I have never heard of that before..
  19. well heres the thing.. technically you need intermediate algebra... but the school emphasizes for the degree you need statistics.. i hear you can the RN license without having the ADN.. but once you have the RN you cant go back and try to get the degree.. i dont know how true that is..
  20. crazy man you sound just like me.. ive been studying at my local barnes n noble for about 6 hours.. i feel somewhat prepared.. but im sure ill be ready in the next few days.. kind of sucks though because we are doing the axial skeleton in lab and im still focused on this test..
  21. WOW...wait... how can you go from 200 decline to 100's and then increase?? that really helps me though.. you ever think about la city harbor i hear there is a lotter system.. and from what i can tell so is COC frankly i dont want to wait... i guess it doesnt hurt since perhaps you can work on you BSN for maybe CSUB which i hear is all online but still dang.. that is kind of discouraging.. so it looks like the wait list of 3 semester is what its most likely accurate... on a brighter side.. fellow classmates are saying that AVC spits out some of the BEST RN students..
  22. out of curiosity what school do you go to? i have the same test on the same chapters same book.. and our school breaks it down from anatomy and phys... what my teacher says is this.. whatever the question may be.. be as SPECIFIC as possible.. so honestly what im doing because my test is this thursday as well is.. make flash cards.. for the histology part.. and on one side have a photo of the tissue being discussed and on the back.. have cell arrangement, cell location, cell function, and matrix appearance.. for example.. this is one of my flash card.. simple squamous epithelium cell arrangement.. tightly clustered 1 layered cells with a round nucleus in the center.. cell location lining of the lungs (aveoli), blood vessels, and the anchor and the serous membrane... cell function permeability of blood vessels, performs absorbtion and secretion.. basically everything in my lab manual is what will be required in the lecture exam.. we just finished going over the axial part of the skeletal system.. for that we need to know if its the right or left side.. make sure you use terms like proximal, distal, lateral etc and know the articulations.. like the occipital condyle articulates to the jugular fossa i beilieve... hope that helps.. but from what my lab professor tells me being very specific is a sure way to get an A on the test.. dont say like transverse process say transverse process of the occipital bone. hope that helps.. and good luck
  23. i live in quartzhill... lvn in cali have it hard to get jobs.. you may have better luck if you tried other medical facilities besides hospitals.. i had a freind who just passed her test and got hired at glendale adventist.. as far as nursing its getting harder to get jobs as a RN... infact, Antelope valley hospital wont hire new grad RN's unless they have there bachelors.. i work at avh i suggest if you were to stay at a hospital to continue your training and they may be more inclined to hire you if you grad as a nurse.. hope that helps.. i also had a freind who was in my micro class last semester... decided that he wanted a quicker fix to a career and attended that school... has been having problems from the get go.. and regrets leaving avc they have a lvn program here at avc but i think the wait is like 3years... because of the pre reqs being limited.. perhaps you can check other schools like coc etc.
  24. thankyou both for the posts.. that site is kind of hard to navigate... or maybe im just used to avc website.. =0 well then i guess ill need to take the pysch lifespan.. i dont understand why some schools require different classes.. kind of fustrating.. thanks again. i guess that class is required for that school.. idk if i want to take another class...=/ but i dont want to wait a long time on the wating list either.. lol
  25. wow this site and thread came just in the nick of time. im definately going to use that one.. come, lets get sun burned for the superficial layers to deep reguarding tissues. =0 thankyou
