the TEAS (forgive my posting in this group)
I've been told the TEAs covers material similar to the GED test. If you can go to the library and grab a GED study guide. It was very basic material, as stated above certainly things covered in middle school . Good luck.

Fast Meal Ideas
The crockpot has been a lifesaver! At Barnes and Noble I bought a cookbook with 100 crockpot recipes for under $10. Another thing I do is I will cook up 5lbs. of hamburgers on the grill, wrap them individually and freeze them. Throw them in the microwave and you have a burger that tastes just like it came off the grill. I bought one of those foodsaver machines and when I have time I cook meals all day and freeze them in portions just right for me to carry with me or heat up when I get home.

HELP....Burnt Out...
I was in a similar situation. I found just doing something for me, made it all better. So I started going rollerblading whenever I felt this way for one hour. You will be amazed just what a difference, doing something for yourself can make. So find a release, because if you are feeling that way there is no way you are absorbing what you are reading and studying. Good luck.

Senate passes health care bill
You and all those posting before make valid arguments. Some things to consider: Where we are currently, nationally with Healthcare is inadequate. The real intention of this proposal is to "begin" the transition to a system which provides for a larger portion of the entire population of these United States. Seldom, if ever has legislation been created in our history that "perfectly" addressed the needs and the concerns of "we the people". By merely laying a foundation, adjustments can be made to "build" this reform into something providing more for the general population. I try to remind myself that while this will be done at an expense, the size and cost of which we cannot yet hope to know; to continue "status quo" would be irresponsible. We can banter back and forth about the costs, the consequences, the burden this will place on "we the people" but maybe we need to do several things: ask why is this only just now happening? Why isn't our government being more progressive and forward thinking? How are our representatives voting? How can I hold my representative more accountable? If the costs are such that I must get by on less and pay more - who am I to deny shouldering part of the costs in order to help provide for some of my fellow countrymen. If we look into the very beginnings of this great country it was founded on the principle that in order to gain, rights, freedoms sacrifices have to be made. Trust me I do not have "extra funds" readily available to pay my share, but I will gladly make adjustments to my way of living in order to help provide healthcare to those currently unable to provide it for themselves. For me it comes down to what is the right thing to do, the responsible thing to do. It has made me more aware of who represents me and how they are representing me. Maybe this is a wakeup call for all of us to get reacquainted with how we are being represented. Its never been easier to inform our representatives of where we stand, you can email, or call those that represent you. I will say this, before you complain to me or your neighbor- have you taken the time to let your your senator or congressman know your thought? If you haven't how do you know how you are being represented? Again, I have no allegiance to any political party. Just my thoughts.

Career Change Into Nursing?
I didn't start school until I was 43, now I'm about to start my 2nd year of the Nursing program and I am so happy I chose this direction. School seems alot easier at this age than it did in my late teens. Best of luck to you.

Micro, Chemistry, and AP I (two in one semester)
During the summer prior to being accepted I took AP2 with Micro, it really wasn't that difficult. It helped that I had two great professors. Be sure to look at http://www.ratemy professor.com, I used this as a source when choosing my courses and was not disappointed with any of the instructors I chose. Good Luck

Is A&P really the hardest of them all?
I took AP2 and Micro over the summer during the minisemester. It was hard, but if you have the time to devote to the studies its very doable, especially if you have passed AP1 with good marks. Good luck

Fightsports while in school
You will find you need the release from school. I'm 45 going to an ADN program. I kayak 5 days a week for my workout and run the other two days. One of the biggest mistakes I've seen alot of classmates make is they stop exercising and other interests while attending class. I find I am not stressed out like some of the others and I've managed to lose weight while in the program while others have gained 20+ pounds. Its not as stressful as some would have you think. The key - be organized, be disciplined and follow a schedule. Good luck

med surg supplemental text
We just finished Med Surg. alot of us used Saunders NCLEX review 4th edition, blue cover. I only used the textbook as a study aid and primarily used the Saunder's as my textbook. Got my highest grades thanks to Saunders. I'm a huge fan of this book its with me constantly. Its broken down by system and each chapter following each system focuses on the meds used in treatment of that system. My clinical instructor looked at it after I told her about it and she recommended it to everyone in my clinical group. Retails for around $45.00 at Amazon Good luck

Student Nurse - OB Rotation
Another guy student nurse here, We did time in delivery and time in postpartum In delivery we helped with caring for mom prior to delivery During delivery we observed, c-sections and lady partsl births In postpartum, we were assigned a nurse and we assisted with the care of all her assigned patients. I was lucky but some male classmates had patients that ere uncomfortable being cared for by a male nursing student. The nurse I worked with was great we entered each of her patients rooms and she introduced me to each saying "this is .... he is a male nursing student helping me with all of your care today, you don't have a problem with that do you?" no one objected and I assisted with fundus assessments, breast feedings, pad changes, icing , newborn assessments, ..... We too followed the breast feeding specialists We also aided in discharge even verifying the vehicle had the corificeat installed properly. It was a great experience . Good luck

States that have reciprocity with Fl. RN license
I agree with you. I've asked if there are any future course content in my last remaining semesters covering licensing, to which I received a "No". Ever grateful a site such of this exists where I can seek guidance from others working in the field.

Age Issues and The Modern Male Nurse
Age has nothing to do with it. I'm 45 and will be graduating late this summer. If anything I feel coming back to school a little "seasoned" has made it much easier than in my youth. As to how patients and classmates receive me? Patients seem to be more relaxed having a seasoned/weathered student nurse no matter what the age of the patient. Classmates? Well the average age in my class is probably 25 but there are some of us in our 40's, 50's and 60's. The student seem to like studying with we "seasoned" student, they see we are serious about our studies and they also seem to enjoy seeking counsel from us in regards to their personal lives. The journey has ben life changing. I've formed friendships I expect will last a lifetime and my interests in nursing have intensified. My goal of becoming a CRNA is even more important to me than when I first started the program. So my suggestion to you; go forward, keep an open mind, enjoy the new friendships and understand that you will not be given any tasks that others have not encountered before. You can have a life while enjoying nursing school and being older has its advantages. Good luck to you

States that have reciprocity with Fl. RN license
Thanks all for your responses. Geez, I think they ought to offer a course on how to figure out where to get a license, how to get endorsement. I think I'd rather take calculus! LOL Well I'm fairly new to this site and I want to thank everyone for all the great information. I find myself spending hours here, but I'm learning some great stuff!
