  1. The film Chasing Zero makes you think about how quickly a serious medication error can be made and about the devastating consequences.

  3. As a new nurse... thank you! We were told the first year would be difficult; that turned out to be an understatement. We (new nurses) really do want to work hard, and believe me I am working hard. It does take me longer to critically think through things that you have critically thought through dozens/hundreds of times. To those of you who have supported us, trust me when I say we appreciate you!
  4. I graduated from CSCC in Columbus, Ohio. As some fine print, my goal was not to say a BSN is not valuable. Instead it was for those who might assume an ADN/ASN nurse has not taken stats/chem/whatever. I am currently working on a BSN at OSU.
  5. Just to help dispel the rumor... I had stats (scored VERY high) and two chem classes (don't remember exact grades, but scored an A in both)... oh and I'm and ADN-RN.
  6. I do not have any ideas for topics... but what a great idea!
  7. I find it surprising that any RN program would not have a pharmacology course. Although our pharm class was very difficult, I'm glad we have one (actually 2: pharm 1 and 2) in our program. If a program doesn't have one, pharm should be heavily woven into the program. That said I wish we had more of our pharm woven into the second half of our program... I'm afraid I might be forgetting a lot that I learned a couple quarters ago. Anyway, you might want to purchase a pharm text and self study. I'm sure you already have a lot on your plate, but it might be worth it in the end. Here's the text we used. http://www.amazon.com/Clinical-Drug-Therapy-Rationales-Practice/dp/0781777690/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1322617912&sr=1-1
  8. I understand not wanting to work in a nursing home... but if you really "do not like old people", the hospital setting might not be right for you either.
  9. If allowed water... you'd pee more... and that would simply lose productivity
  10. They're Their and There Your and You're To, Too, and Two There is a difference :)
  11. I find it interesting that everyone keeps telling suanna what she meant to say. Also I think what nurses do, does matter. Her believing she is making a difference is a good and true thing.
  12. Student who posted placenta picture reinstated - Local News - Wichita, KS - msnbc.com
  13. I can't remember exactly, but I think it will change when you've been cleared to register for Nursing classes.
  14. If you talked to your instructor, it should be fine. The only things that I can think of that would put you at risk, would be transfers (bed to wheelchair for example) and changing linens while patient is it bed. Since your instructor said it would be fine, she may allow you to act them out rather than actually doing the tasks. The other student that is pretending to be your patient will also be able to help, so you're not actually moving all of their weight. If it were me, I would not have a problem taking the class. Although if I had not previously been working as a CNA, I would not start a job as one while so far along in a pregnancy. Good Luck
  15. Thanks again everyone :) If some of you are getting near straight A's, it must be possible! Which is good to hear.
  16. Thank you everyone for taking the time to reply :) My biggest concern is this program is an ADN and I'm very interested in continuing beyond, so I don't want to apply to a BSN/MSN/NP program with a crappy gpa.
  17. I am wondering if it is really not practical to expect to continue getting A's once I start the NS program in 2 months? As someone who received an A in all prereqs including intro to bio, both A&P, chem x2, psy intro, psy (human dev), humanities, nurse aid & tech, etc... I kinda find it hard to believe. I have 2 kids, who are in elementary school/ preschool... but I do not have to work. So I would like to hear from A students who either continued getting A's or those who were A students and now find themselves as B/C students.
  18. They do have petites and xsmall.
  19. Anyone know when orientation is/ when we'll be getting our info packets for fall '10?
  20. Hi, I'm also starting this fall.Any chance you know when we're going to have orientation/ when we're supposed to get our info packet?
  21. I took my Anatomy class as a hybrid. The lecture material was my responsibility and the lab (study of the cadaver) was done in class Sunday mornings for 4 hours. There are amazing videos on youtube and what not, but I felt I learned a lot from getting the hands on experience. The 4 hours were not enough though, and I attended open labs at least 2 additional days a week. Anatomy in my opinion is not something that should be taken completely online. As far as physiology, I am currently taking this class as a hybrid. The lab portion is entirely computer simulated and is a waste of my time At least for physio I only have to be on campus for 5 labs so it's not that bad. I loved Anatomy and am learning a lot in Physiology. Good Luck :) BTW They're not easy classes... I believe the drop/fail rate in both classes is 40% for my college's hybrid version.
  22. I believe that an A&P classes, while might be available as a hybrid class, will require you to be on campus for labs. So if you post the area you live in, someone may be able to help you.
