I travel 61 miles each way to the County Jail in Pittsburgh, PA. One hour and a half each way, in good weather.Give a half hour or so more when snow starts flying. Been here since Nov.'08, and love my job!

Please don't think this is a common occurence in Correctional facilities; just my . I know of the facility spoken of by the OP; The CO's there have your back in any situation, and the nursing staff in general I know personally or by working with them. Please consider your job offer, and hope you choose to take it. Corrections can be a quite fulfilling career. Good luck in whatever you choose to do!

I can vouch for nursejudy15209; I work there occasionally thru my agency. The med pass is heavy, and you need to be organized and quick to get all the meds passed before lock down. Some pods have lock down later, and that helps if ya get behind a bit. I enjoy working there, but dont get as many days as I would like. ICONGRATS Judy on the 4th anniversary of being there!

Hello all! I'm Patty,living in Southwestern Pa., been an LPN since Dec. 2000, Having graduated from local Practical Nursing Program at the local county Vo-Tech school in Sept. 2000. In spite of my age at that time, I graduated 4th in my class. My first job I got right before graduating, starting 2 days after that at a local hospital in my area. I have worked Med-surg, Tele, Ortho,pediatric rehab, adult rehab,LTC, and LTAC ;main job the last few yrs has been Agency, picking up some invaluable skills along the way. I did 1 yr as a Private duty nurse, but missed the agency work (also the decent wages), and enjoyed meeting new folks along the way, and making some friendships that I will long cherish. Still fighting with getting student loans paid off, but have intentions of contining on for my RN, and hopefully get into the Critical Care field or possibly the OR. I have enjoyed reading all the previous posts, and wish luck to those going on for their RN at this time; just wait! I wont be far behind ya! (at least I hope! ) Nursing is an honorable career, and have never regretted one moment of it!

Just want to thank you for your response, it just validates my reason for not hiring on with them, they had gotten my resume online and had given me a call, and emailed me the paperwork needed for signing on.Glad now that I chucked it into "File 13", they also were pretty vague on the areas that I would be going to.

Punch in unlimited nurse search into search block of your browser, should be able to bring you up with the web site of that name. Most large agencies have their own websites, and allow for applying on line. Hope that this enough to get you started..................................................

As an agency nurse myself, I was given the opportunity of going to a local facility in order to staff during their strike,. I vehemently refused;as being from a union family, would not even consider crossing the picket line, not matter how much they offered. They had guaranteed our safety by shuttling us from an undisclosed parking area, but that still wasnt enough to convince me to take the offer. I didnt even ask what they were offering in the way of wages, who would say that they would have kept to this rate after the strike was over. JMHO.........

This is for all of you Pittsburgh/S.W. Pa. nurses(LPN or Rn), Have any of you ever heard of Cynamed? Its located in Moon, somewhere near the International airport, I was contacted by them regarding possible employment. Would like to know anything you can give regarding this agency, pros/cons, as to make a decision on whether to go ahead and accept the position. As I have never heard of this agency before, I am going to assume that they may be rather new. I await any and all responses. Feel free to PM me.

My spouse went through this surgery back in 1986, after being seen by EENT and stating that he had nearly total hearing loss in right ear. He had had years of chronic ear infections all the way from childhood up to and including adulthood. Dr stated ear drum was virtually all scar tissue. After the surgery, he was able to recover a partial amount of his hearing in that ear, but not 100%. I just thank the good Lord and that wonderful surgeon who made getting even some of his hearing back possible.
