As a new nurse, I applied to the large hospitals first, got one interview but no offer. On my second round, I included small, rural hospitals as well. Got an interview at a 20 bed ER, gave it my best and got an offer a few days later. The small hospital is part of the same system that has the level 1 trauma center I'd like to end up in. Working here will get me ER experience in a relatively calmer setting, with a smaller, more close knit team, and get me in the system to be an internal applicant if I decide to move to the larger hospital later. Interviewed for a minimum security rehab facility last week. I mostly got general behavioral questions, and they went right down a little questionnaire packet. What would you do if you overheard two employees gossiping? How would you handle conflict with a co-worker? What's your management style? Tell us about your supervisory experience. (to a new grad- ha!) What would you do if an inmate asked you for a favor? Why do you want to work in corrections? What qualifies you to be the first responder in an emergency? I did extensive research here, and on the 'net, looking up all the behavioral interview questions I could. I researched the facility, the medical contractor, and corrections nursing in general. There wasn't a single question posed that I hadn't already thought about in some form, and I had ready, eloquent answers prepared. The research allowed me to make some informed comments and ask specific, intelligent questions. I received a rejection letter about 3 days later, but about 3 days after that, I got a call from HR. They said the NM and director had to choose a more experienced candidate, but were so impressed with my interview that they wanted to hire me PRN so I could go through orientation and begin preparing for a FT position.

Pharm-Lots of rote memorization but not too hard. Med-Surg-I find most of it interesting so it's not too hard to remember. Psych-Hated it! Ack! The therapeutic nurse-client relationship almost drove me bananas.

I submitted a DO mid-December 2008 and I received my response the first of February 2009. Mine was a misdemeanor committed when I was 17 (now 25). Hope this helps.

I faced this very same dilemma! I chose to go the ADN route so I could leave school with about 8000 in student loans. In this area the hospitals have very good tuition reimbursement and Im applying now for extern positions so that I won't have to take a loan for the last 2 semesters. I'm going to bridge to a MSN after I graduate so the hospital can pick up the tab :smokin:I would definitely recommend doing the ADN program first when you don't have a stack of sweet scholarships or family money.

On 1 I would help the client if they asked because otherwise you're DNRing them against their stated will. Also they're not requesting resuscitation, just assistance. On 2 I would put "respect the client's wishes". In my Fund.s they were pretty heavy on cultural and religious sensitivity and the pt should do pretty much as they please (within reason) and the nurse's role is only to assist them in doing it. On 3 I would put "document the jewelry". Taping the ring seems silly and I seem to recall family member's claiming personal items after a family member's death at the hospital. I feel your frustration about the instructor though. One of my instructors doesn't even give her own test review anymore so we can't challenge any questions. If you ask her outside of the test review she tells you she can't answer without having the rationales. Bah.

I've never been quoted less than 200$ monthly by a private insurance company and I'm a healthy 25 year old. That seems like a pretty good deal to me. :uhoh21:

Eh, I don't see anything wrong with your questions. This is just one of those topics that provoke people. Anywho, I was already pregnant when I applied to the Fall 08 NP and I was accepted. I found out I was preg before I sent my Letter of Intent back so I just declined for "personal reasons". There was no way I was going to Nursing school in my third trimester. I figured I would be cool with starting Spring 09 and putting my 3 month old in daycare. I applied for Spring, had my baby, immediately declined AGAIN. Just couldn't see putting my baby girl in daycare at such a young age. I sniffled a little but postponed Nursing school so I could stay at home and be a mom. I started this Fall and I am so happy I chose to wait. I don't feel guilty about my baby being in daycare now that she's old enough to play with the other babies and she sleeps through the night so I can study late. Now, there are 2 girls that are pregnant in my program and personally, I disapprove. One is having her baby induced during Christmas break to fit her schedule and the other is just hoping for the best next Spring. I think it's stupid to attend such a difficult program while you're pregnant. I'm in an a condensed program with strict attendance policies and too many things can go wrong while you're pregnant to just cross your fingers and take up a seat.

Crying in nursing school creeps me out and I have to leave the room. I've seen people run out of check-off crying, run out of the exam room crying, standing in the hallway crying, sitting in class crying. Sheesh! One little disappointment and you just fall to pieces?? It makes me uncomfortable and embarased for them. Really, I think it's inconsiderate to subject strangers to your raw emotion. Where's your game face, people?

Did you join your school's Student Nurses Association? Here the membership is 45$ a year and it automatically enrolls you in the National SNA from whom you can purchase discounted health insurance by UnitedHealthcare.

In my class of 55 only 4 people have A's. There were 5 of us but the Fund. HESI knocked one down to a B. About 20 people have B's and the rest are C's and F's. A lot of girls came out of pre reqs with 4.0s and had trouble adjusting to the viewpoint that a 82 on an exam was now a good thing for them. The lady who has the highest grade studies at least 6 hours a day, I mean serious business studying. She is guilt-ridden about not seeing her husband and kids and is always on the verge of a breakdown.

I've got the Fundamentals final Monday and the Pharm final the Monday after Thanksgiving but then I'll be done with my first semester too. It wasn't that bad for me just soooo time consuming. I learn pretty easily and have experience as a PCT and EMT so I caught some breaks. It was harder than I thought it would be but not as bad as they made it out to be in Orientation and Boot Camp. Overall I had a good time this semester
