  1. This term I have the CI from HELL! She calls in all the time so we end up with different subs that are great teachers but most of them don't know the facility or the students. Are are not familiar with our daily routine so they take it from our actual CI that just recycle's the last weeks' assignments of who's doing med pass and who's doing blood glucose readings. The same students end up doing it over and over while others do not get the experience. Our papers are never graded because our teacher "claims" the subs are not turning it into her. We ask her to teach us something that the other clinical group is getting and instead she argues that it's for the theory class however clinical gives us the advantage of hands on. When we ask her questions, she makes you feel stupid for asking and constantly gives us the heavy sigh of annoyance with our questions. She'll tell us "You should know this by heart now" but when are we suppose to learn it when she's NEVER there and the other teachers do not go over it. This term I look forward to each and every theory class because I have a wonderful teacher and an open environment to ask questions to help me learn. I dread each and every weekend that I have to go to clinical. It's not something I look forward to like I did last term but something I try to "overcome" like a boulder in the road standing between me and my LVN license. Our instructors even told us that she applied to our school as an instructor as a "joke". Enough said
  2. My goal was originally to become a PA but once I got started researching the local schools in my area had wait list so I switched to nursing and went to a vocational school to become a LVN. Now I want to be a NP. Look into it and see what you think.
  3. Thanks! That's much better than dealing with the books. Once I take the one I have a book for now, I'll sign up for once of those sites. Thank you very much!
  4. Thanks for the advice. I'm studying for my first CLEP now and want to know that out in May and move on to the next one.
  5. I'm so thrilled to hear that. I can't wait to get in myself. Good luck to you and your wife.
  6. I'm sorry so many were so disparaging but I hope you don't give up. Anyway, I could imagine if you go into healthcare with your experience your BSN (if that's what you have) would be very valuable.
  7. Although my program is part-time, I still feel like I'm not retaining anything. We are in class half the time that the full-time students are but we still just swallow the info and regurgitate it for the test. I believe the ATI will be handy for NCLEX review, more than any of my notes.
  8. Hi Fcat, Congrats on getting into the program. No I'm not a seventh day adventist I just really like their program. Although I've always wanted to go to a christian college so hopefully I can go to either Loma Linda or Azusa pacific university. Loma Linda has a wonderful reputation and a degree from their would really open doors. So how are you liking WGU right now? Funny thing is I'm actually baptist but California Baptist University just doesn't appeal to me much.
  9. Lunacat..my understanding is that since they have clinicals in some of the best hospitals in area that it's not an issue. As for WGU as opposed to West Coast University, West doesn't have such a good rep along with the fact that they recently got credited a lot of colleges do not accept their degrees if you ever want to go on for anything higher. Plus even if you have less than two years at West Coast, they cost an arm and a leg...along with an entire house. Is it really worth it to you?
  10. This is great to hear for those of us who have that problem.
  11. I'm currently in the beginning process of acceptance for WGU. My understand is that the 3.0 gpa is on a scale of 3.0 instead of the traditional 4.0. Loma Linda University will recongize and accept the BSN from WGU which is where I'd like to go some day to become an NP.
  12. I think it depends on the type of program you take if it's full-time or part-time. I'm in a vocational LVN program PT and yes it's very easy to balance our life and still work full-time. I believe my school is starting an ADN program and if they offer PT it will probably be similar. However our school stresses the point that it is giving us the first year of an RN program after pre-reqs with a lot of review of all the pre-reqs in my opinion. Just decide which one you want to do instead of basing it on which one you think will be easier, IMHO.
  13. Well congrats, I hope you did well.
  14. I see you have a lot of views but no responses. There's a lot of different subjects and I know I have a different syllabus for each class. Is there a certain area you want to review in? Maybe if you ask that way you'd get a reply. If you narrow it down I can send some to you but I don't think you'd want all 30 plus syllabui that I have. I'm sure your experience as a LPN will suffice but again if you narrow it down I can send some to you.
  15. I'm half way through my LVN course and wish I had gone straight to RN. However my experience in LVN program has made me realize that I want to be nurse for sure. So I do not regret my decision one bit and feel that the experience of working as an LVN while going to school for my BSN next year will difinitely be invaluable when I search for my first RN job.
  16. I'm an LVN student now about to wrap up my 2nd term in less than a month. I'm not an MA but a lot of my classmates are. I think they find the skill portion of it pretty easy but some struggle with theory while others don't. I don't think it's that challanging and if your instructor referred you to an VN program I'm sure you can handle it. I'm currently working, married, and studying my pre-reqs at the same time so I'm confident you can do it if you put your mind to it.
  17. I believe it would be within our scope of practice. I'll ask my instructor tomorrow night when I have class if you have not heard back from the BON yet.
  18. I'm in an LVN and I must say the hardest part of nursing school is managing it with the rest of my life. However I think it's on the easy side because it's based on critical thinking which is my forte. In the end it's a matter of opinion and I think we all come to allnurses.com to share our opinions, struggles, triumphs, etc. So for those of us who are lucky and find it easy, hoorah! For those who don't, it's OK the more work you put in the more you will get out of it. I love nursing and have no desire to be a doctor nor do I think I could make it. But there is something that comes natural to me for nursing. I struggle with small portions of it but must admit that the effort I put into studying is minimal. I know when I go into a BSN program next year that must change but know that my experience as an LVN will be priceless.
  19. Yes, once you complete the first term of an LVN course, you can take the test for CNA. Here in California, which I assume you are since you said LVN although you could be from TX, the BON does not regulate CNA. Check the website for CNAs. The website is Aide / Technician so feel free to check it out.
  20. Hello everyone, I'm in the process of earning my pre-reqs through CLEPs, DSST, Straighterline.com, and the local community college. Anyone else going through the same stressful yet exciting process? By the way I'm in Orange County, CA.
  21. Congrats to you! I'm 30 now and half way through my LVN program. My goal is to be a NP before I turn 40. Here's to us and reaching our goals!
  22. This is a great question and I hope you receive an answer. I'm currently half way through my LVN but will have a job waiting for me once I graduate through my current employer. I know that were I work now is a great company but as far as patient care I don't want to stay there long. So I'm interested in knowing what's the earliest I can stop applying as well. Good luck!
  23. I hear really negative things about it and ruled it out very early in my school search.
