    Quit my job for School?

Pell Grant is need based aid and b/c of your previous salary I don't know if you'd qualify. You need to still submit a FAFSA...it's free and relatively painless to do. Based on that info, they will see what you qualify for. Some might be loans like an Unsub stafford. YOu can also search your college's scholarships and grants too. There might be something there for you.

    Espanol?

I think a lot of the terminology that you might need you could easily just get from a vocab book. When I took a class (as an independent study) it was all vocab.

    Question about IVF clinic job

Did they confirm the M-F standard hours? I know when I was a patient at a clinic, they did egg retrievals on weekends, holidays, etc and there was always a nurse present.

    Other second career students?

Second career gal here too! Undergrad in bio with the plan to go to chiro school but got burnt out at end of undergrad and didn't do it. Went to work in higher edu. Got 2 advanced degrees in edu. Still working in higher edu after 14 years. No fulfillment in current job. Sciences and personal interactions are my passion. Time to pursue those passions and I've got a wonderfully supportive hubby who said go for it. Have a 3yo at home and will be working full time and doing school. Lot on my plate, but know I can do it. Taking APII this term and then applying for Fall 2010 admission. Good luck to all!
  5. If there were any extenuating circumstances, then they will want to know that as well. Keep it short, sweet and to the point. Appeals committees don't like to hear excuses but do like action plans.

    NAT scores and FSCJ

Sorry...just got around to reading your response. I just posted this reply on another thread so thought I'd share with you... I just took the exam 2 weeks ago. Did the practice exam from the website. Scored well on it. Most challenging part for me was the spelling on the actual test--was harder than the practice test. Pay attention to your exam section times because you have to move fairly quickly on most parts--1st part I actually ran out of time and I'm pretty quick on tests. It doesn't hurt to guess if you don't know an answer. Be prepared that the reading comp is typically written in VERY formal language and is a bit harder to comprehend. Most questions if I wasn't 100% sure of the answer, I could narrow it down to 2 possibilities so doing that will help as well (increases your chances of a right answer if you have to guess).

Am I wasting my time applying to these colleges?

Have you thought about taking the ACT instead of the SAT? Find out what the schools require for that. Personally, I did sooo much better on the ACT since it is broken down into 4 sections: Reading, math, verbal and sci reasoning. Quite a few CC's will either require an SAT/ACT or a college placement test for admission into the school. Specific program requirements might be different.

    FCCJ/FSCJ Day vs Night/Weekend ?

Thanks for that response...will probably mark both and just "roll the dice" on the acceptance to nights and weekends.

Curious, whats your job while in school?

I will be taking my last 2 prereqs/reqs for the program in the spring...both online while working full time in my university technology position. I have a BA, MAT and MEd. Would like to cut back to part time after starting nursing (hopefully in Fall 2010) so that my hubby and son don't get neglected.

    FCCJ/FSCJ Day vs Night/Weekend ?

If you don't get accepted into the limited spots for evening, do they automatically consider you for days? Or is it strictly you apply for one or the other?

    FCCJ/FSCJ Day vs Night/Weekend ?

If you send an email to a lady at FSCJ she's usually pretty good about letting you know minimum cutoff numbers. I know for the day students applying to start this Jan it was 190...

    NAT scores and FSCJ

Well, I just took my NAT and rocked it out and if I did this formula correctly then I got 107.52 of the 112 possible points for admission. I didn't do as well as I would have liked on the spelling (guessing it's in the academic aptitude total), if I wait 3 months, should I retake it or be happy as a clam with these scores? My nursing pre-req total is going to be b/w 93 and 105 points (depending on if they count a grad school course for my Human Growth--93 if I have to retake, 99 if they let my child psych count--which they might since it's on the degree audit and 105 if they let my grad school A in it count). I'm going to apply for Fall 2010...live in Nassau Cty and would hope for Nights/Weekends. Any advice or should I just be happy with what I've got? Thanks!

    Help! Paying For NS?

I currently work at a university so I'll try to answer a few questions for you. It's almost impossible to change a dependency status with the feds. Dependency overrides can't be done if the parents don't feel it's their responibility to fund college. If, a studen tor parent has recently lost a job, then it's good to talk to FA at your school about making adjustments to your FAFSA since that IS a possibility. Sorry! Pell Grants are need based grants so unless there has been a major change in your parent's financial status, you would have been considered for those with your grant-in-aid package. What types of aid did they offer? Sub Stafford? Unsub Stafford? FSEOG? If they offered you the sub Stafford, ask about an unsub stafford. Also, keep in mind that both of the Staffords can increase as you go from a 2nd to a 3rd or 4th year student. Have you looked into on campus jobs? Most are limited to 20 hours per week, and they are flexible insofar as they will work around your class schedule. Check with HR at the college if this is something that you're interested in.

    FCCJ/FSCJ Day vs Night/Weekend ?

Thanks so much for that information. It definately gives me a better picture of what the program will look like if I decide to pursue the night/weekend.
