Working and studying in the UK
so, why are they still recruiting foreign caregivers? they could just send them home after their contracts expire and hire the new UK grads, then... :loveya: also, i should probably stop using "we" and change it to saying "i" -- as in I just want to try a different place to study for a while and then come back home is that clearer? :loveya:

Health Care is a right
Yes, I could have gone to FoxNews. Or some other Republican fearmongering site. Also, NZ has more sheep than people. I think the vets there are a happy bunch. :loveya:

Health Care is a right
The rest of the world, both rich and undeveloped countries, know and understand this. It's only the USA that doesn't: Universal health care is implemented in all industrialized countries, with the exception of the United States. It is also provided in many developing countries. source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Universal_health_care

Democrats want everyone else to pay for the health care
If the billions and billions of dollars that foreign and domestic Big Corporations made, year after year, within these shores (and hidden offshore) were taxed, the whole USA population (both legal and "illegal") would be covered forever. :twocents::twocents::twocents::twocents:

New Grad Nurse Joining Army-Helpful Tips Please!!
curious to know whether one actually does get one's base of choice...

Typical ASN VS BSN questions
Yet in another thread, an ASN grad recently posted that she and her 100's of fellow new grads cannot find work to even begin to get those "three years experience" because they are only hiring BSN grads, minimum.

nursing schools that admit non-NHS bursary students
Greetings, I've tried searching the UCAS site, but have not been able to filter the nursing school results for those that accept non-EU international students that are not eligible for NHS bursaries. If any of you know of a list of foreign-student welcoming schools online, I'd appreciate the link. Much thanks! :heartbeat

Working and studying in the UK
sorry, i think my post was completely misread. my point was that we only want an education in a different part of the world. then, we want to come back home to the good ol' usa.

Most useful Pre-reqs
also, someone else on another thread said SOCIOLOGY helps with empathizing with your patients and giving better care. :heartbeat

Most useful Pre-reqs
I've seen Spanish For Health Care Providers I and II offered, which does not require any previous Spanish classes.

Typical ASN VS BSN questions
I can't find it right now, but a couple of years ago I found links to official sites with NCLEX pass rates statewide where you can compare the results. At the time, some NY and NJ community colleges had noticeably much higher pass rates than far spendier 4 year Catholic and private colleges. :grad:

Crazy things pt's do for pain meds.
curious what a 4+ swelling is... is that a grade of swelling or in inches? i recently had an ankle incident that caused swelling from the size of a golf ball to a tennis ball to a small grapefruit. would i have been worthy of a visit to your ER? :chair:

Crazy things pt's do for pain meds.
I suppose everyone here would think I was crazy, too -- for not wanting to take pain meds (they upset my stomach and give me hives) YET still be made free of whatever pains were "killing me" at the time!

Our hospital is going SMOKE FREE!
It's a wonder to me that any hospitals would still have indoor smoking rooms! All the corporate offices I've worked in did not allow for that and made them freeze outside in the winter! Of course, it wasn't a treat to be forced to walk through the clouds of smoke to get to the front entrance either. :dzed:

Changing Jobs... I think??
Well, my grandmother would say that it's just polite to write a nice thank-you note within a couple of days of seeing you for an interview. That way, you can also touch base with her and reiterate about how well suited and still interested you are in the position, and how much you appreciate being considered. It doesn't have to be a letter-letter, it can be on a thank-you card and not so formal. Good luck!

health consciousness
Near the ER entrance recently, there were at least half a dozen or so smokers within ten feet of each other wearing scrubs. Don't know if they are all nurses, but that made me wonder if going through nursing school made you more health conscious and/or encouraged hypochondriacal tendencies. My friends who are doing pre-vet courses have chosen to become vegetarians as a result of learning more about their future patients. How has your schooling and/or experience as a nurse changed your health habits? :heartbeat

Flying and Motion Sickness
someone i know with very bad air and car sickness steeps slices of ginger and drinks it as a tea (sweetened with honey). you can try ginger ale/beer, but those are probably much weaker than the actual gingerroot brew. :beercuphe

Working and studying in the UK
What about those of us who might just want a little change of scenery while training to become nurses? Would the UK admissions/immigration be as hostile to those of us who have definite plans of going back to our hometowns (or at least home countries) to practice?

Which pre-reqs to take first?
it was suggested elsewhere on this board to take A&P (or whatever 'hard' science you need) on its own in the summer term so as to be able to concentrate fully and not be stressed out about the extra work.

Goal is to become Nurse in Air Force or Army
also, wouldn't the air force pick up the school tab? or, at least part of it? why not choose an academically reputable school rather than a for-profit agency?

Does it seem like EVERYONE is trying to be a nurse?
time was, everyone wanted to major in comp sci.... now, when i tell anyone of my interest in nursing, it's like "YUCK" -- so i think that you thinking that everyone likes nursing better is a good thing!

BSN not worth it?
i just wanted to say thank you for posting this. being pressured to go directly into a bsn programme was the only thing i'd been facing, but now i am thinking of looking into PCT just to get my toe in the water and see if i like it. thanks again. :loveya:

Army Reserve Nursing
it's interesting to learn of the different educational levels [and max ages] acceptable to the various branches. now, to research the pros and cons of the ANC vs the NG.
