I started the process in mid-July. I was really just getting the information at first. I didn't even fill out the application until August (very loooooooong). Really it just depends on how quickly you return the information they ask for and complete the tasks. I have completed my physical and everything. I was told to make sure whatever is promised get it in writing. My recruiter said the process takes about 6mos. I can leave as soon as I pass the NCLEX.

Absolutely it's possible! I am also a former teacher. I graduate from nursing school this December with my BSN. I am in a second-degree option program. The entire program is 12 months. Yes, it's grueling, however many of the people in my cohort have families. Two of the women in my class had babies during the program! We all supported each other. Just one year and you will have your BSN. By the way, Idecided to sign up with the army nurse corps. With a BSN you commission as an officer. Since your husband is already in the military it may be a good thing to look into. They give preferential treatment to spouses when they pick your assignments

You may want to consider the military. Wait before you say I'm crazy, let me give you the facts. I graduate in December and I have a job waiting for me. A few months ago I started putting feelers out to see how the market was going. It's horrible! So, I started researching the army. As a civilian new grad you will start at the bottom of the pay scale with the worst shifts, worse departments, and a mountain of student loans. As a commissioned army officer you will opportuinites that you never thought possible. I am not a recruiter. I do not have anything to gain by recommending the army to anyone. I just want to put it out there as an option. Everyone told me I was crazy, and they would send me to Iraq. That's possible, but not likely. It's a 3yr commitment but the trade off is soooo worth it. I choose Germany, Hawaii, and Japan as my choices for duty stations. By the way, "officers" don't do basic training they go to officer's training (i.e. no crawling in the mud while someone screams at you). Just a suggestion.

Hello all! I am completing my BSN in nursing in December. I have begun the process to join the Army Nurse Corps. I have completed everything but sign my contract and swear in. What should I know before signing my contract? Also, does anyone have any information on the best bases for nurses? I have heard good things about Germanya nd Hawaii. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

Hi, You should seriously consider completing your BSN before going into the army. You will commission as an officer. Don't enlist! It's almost impossible to switch over from enlisted to commissioned. I graduate December 2009, and I will commission as a 2nd Lt. You will have way more benefits.

Hello all, I am new to allnurses. I am currently in school for my BSN. I graduate this December (). I am seriously considering the army. I have completed all of the preliminary papers (everything but the oath). I would really like some information on the "REAL DEAL." I am terrified I will be sent to the front lines, even though my recruiter told me I can pick three possible assignments. I am only signing up for three years.
