does anyone know the pay rate differences between CHOC and CHLA?

Hi, I'm an RN with under 1 year experience who just got hired into a specialty unit at LAC USC. I currently work at a pretty high paying hospital for new grads (in the 50s), and will be staying per diem there. Oddly enough i don't know the pay rate yet at LAC USC, as the HR office is hard to reach, but I'm assuming it's on the lower end. I got hired on as an RN1 Full Time benefitted "Class A". My question is about pay POTENTIAL over time. I'm okay with starting low, & taking a large pay cut because I appreciate the opportunity to get trained in specialty as a newer nurse and actually like the county environment & teaching hospitals in general. I would, however, like to get an idea of the earning potential after i get that one year experience. Would anyone mind sharing the pay rate for a new RN (NOT relief or temporary), and also if you've worked at county for a few years - would you mind sharing whether the earning potential grows quickly or slowly? Thank you!

I'm an LVN who graduates from my BSN-RN program in a couple months. I just got word on my final transitional preceptorship and it's going to be graveyard shifts on a CTU med surg floor, which I am assuming is like a tele floor? The hospital is a Level 1 trauma center, btw. I plan on brushing up on my ECGs and cardiac meds for sure, but was wondering if I could get a list of basic cardiac patient procedures I should look up? I will look up stents, post MI patients, CHF patients who are poorly managed, etc...but any more suggestions? I want to be familiar with common post op patients and post procedure patients I will see but a more narrow list would be appreciated. Thank you!!

Hi! I just got word that I got accepted into the prelicensure RN-BSN program for Pasadena, CA that starts 11/1/14. I am preparing myself for telling my job about my impending change in availability. I am also preparing myself for having to look for a new job/position as I suspect that I will need to get a new and more flexible job. I REALLY need to know how to explain the clinicals to the new job though. I need anyone from a past Pasadena cohort or a California cohort to let me know (a) how far apart clinical intensives are (b) generally how long each clinical intensive lasts © generally how many days a week they are and hours per day (d) most importantly how far in advance you know the anticipated dates of clinical intensives and how far in advance of the clinical intensive itself you know exactly what hours and days you'll be working. I need to explain how my life will be for the next 2 years or so as accurately as possible to wherever I apply. I don't want to surprise them with anything. I know this information should be available to me through my enrollment counselor but it's vague and I would like to hear it from someone actually doing the program. I really appreciate any help I can get and look forward to it. I wouldn't even mind chatting on the phone or something. Thanks in advance.

I am looking to start my pre-reqs at National University in California and then apply to their nursing program..I know its a long wait list, etc.. I am a god student so I have high hopes I'll make it in eventually. The rep told me, however, that once I make it to their Nursing Program- its full time pretty much? I dont think I could ever not work and just go to school as much as I would love to.. I just have too many bills.. that being said - is anyone actually in the NURSING PART of the program, and if so is it really FT? what are the hours like? whats a normal week like, class hour wise?? I want to see if it would be doable to work a little too while doing the nursing portion.. (this is for the Fresno, San Diego, and LA nursing campuses....) thanks!! =)

I want to take Indiana State University's LPN to BSN bridge program. I need to know which exact CLEP, DSST, ECE is needed to complete phase 1 and 2 of the program (link is here http://www.indstate.edu/degreelink/php/askus-confirmation.php). Is there a way we can correspond each of these required "classes" to its respective CLEP, DSST, ECE ? So that I dont take the wrong one?? Thanks for your help! (Trying to dodge the College Network route!)

thanks all! i have the orange saunders from school (2nd to latest edition) and intend on going over all the review questions on the CD.. i havent gotten my letter from BVNPT to take my boards yet i just graduated 3 weeks ago so soon.. i ordered the incredibly easy book because it was the most cost effective for me and hope it works... thanks to you all for your suggestions and best of luck to you all as well :)

VERY true. everywhere i look there is someone going to nursing school.. my plan is to seek employment anywhere in southern california and i will go as far up north as san bernadino, bakersfield, etc because I have nothing tying me down to OC so if the right opportunity comes than i am all for it.. thanks for the advice~ !

I am an LVN student without medical experience (except for my clinicals) who graduates in 2 weeks. I live in Southern California and am wondering what the starting pay is.. And where they're hiring the new grad LVNs.. All you new grad LVNs working in so cal- mind sharing how hard/easy it was for you to find a job and also how much you make?? Thanks.. Fingers Crossed :/

only the strong survive here, esspecially with the new curriculumn- so if you are self sufficient and are a responsible student, you will be fine. i always recommend community college to whoever i can because of pricing, but if you MUST go to a trade- you might as well do it right, so go here. admin issues? yes sometimes. strict to the point of nonsense? yes sometimes (less so, if you go part time, more so if you go full time). will you pass the boards if you make it through the school? yes. and thats important. they dont let you out of the program unless you KNOW YOUR STUFF- and in the end thats what it comes down to- and what matters.. good luck =)

no problem! to be honest-admin problems are getting better...just hang onto important paperwork lol...

if you're a strong gal and can handle an admin problem here and there- then you are at the right place. because despite the admin problems (which i believe all schools can have) the teachers are great and the people that make it through the program are the strong ones who self sufficient to a degree and go-getters. if you are that type YOU WILL BE FINE. :)
