Wonderful!!! You advocated for yourself. Never be sorry for protecting your license. Because companies are out to look out for themselves. I would quit too and very happily. Especially if my quality of life was being affected. BIG HUG. THATs the WONDERFUL world of Nursing. We never was told that in nursing school.

WOW, it seems like this is the way NURSING operates. It could be a lie and still you have to defend your license... And it get very expensive.

Hello, Just to share in my state MASS, MNA has a really good course when the boards comes knocking at your door. As a nurse you have to PROTECT your license. Your employer will never have your back or cover you. Even though you a wonderful employee. Understand your nurse practice act, follow policy and bring to administration. And if you get no results, keep it moving... you can always get a job. But a tainted license will have too many questions to be answered.

Yes, I agree with other writers. CNA needs direct order, but not in a condescending way. They can make a nurse life a living hell, they have nothing to loose. Just be confident and offer education to CNA when possible.

" in front of about 4 other nurses. I work the 3-11:30 shift, so it got pretty busy after I admitted my fifth patient. My -new- tech for two of my patients kept calling me to tell me that they each needed something (insignificant things, like "Can bed 10 have a popsicle?", but probably 5 calls within 15 minutes as I was trying to pass medications and deal with my post-op patient). One of my patients was a non-verbal "psych" patient who needed a 1:1 sitter because he was at times impulsive - trying to get out of bed so that he could go to the bathroom and go on a walk. By no means was he more than one sitter could handle, and I had even given him his scheduled Lorazepam and Geodon. At around 9:15 the 1:1 sitter for that patient called my phone yelling, telling me that I needed to do something about that patient because they couldn't handle him, he was just too impulsive and she didn't want to deal with it anymore. So I go in the room to assess him, and he's laying there, on his back, reaching for the bedrail but not actually getting a hold of it. Keep in mind I had been checking on the patient since 3pm that day, and noticed that the sitter from the earlier shift was verbally de-escalating him, or talking him to the bathroom when he was attempting to get out of bed. He had been continent the entire day for her. This tech just didn't want to have to get the patient out of bed every hour to go to the bathroom. When I came in the room, she greeted me sarcastically and told me I had to get him something to "knock him out" or "tie him down". I got another, more experienced nurse, to come in the room with me, and even ran it over with the charge RN. They both told me that they agreed, they didn't see any indicating factor to "tie him down", that there was no real indication and I just try a PRN medication instead. I was furious and fed up with this tech, who has a history of a major attitude problem that most people just put up with. I did give this patient a Geodon IM injection, which his wife said was sometimes necessary when I spoke to her on the phone. This helped the patient calm down even further. Luckily I handed off this patient to another nurse at 11, but I had to stay after to catch up on charting due to the breakdown I had in the nutrition room earlier. I kept overhearing that tech say how she was in such a bad mood, kept telling the charge RN that nobody would listen to her, and then the next nurse (who is strangely good friends with that tech) told me that she was putting the patient in a posey. I do feel like that was to please that tech, but that was not my assessment. I feel like the tech, who is the same age as me, can sense my "newness" and my desire to please. I just did not want to be told what to do because it was not what I believed was necessary. I guess I'm just looking for some advice. I know I will have to work with this tech in the future, and I am seriously glad that I have four days off because I don't think I could handle communicating with her. How do I become more firm? What could I have said or done differently?

Hello Amanda001, I did that trick once and it went all the way and I did fail. So just try to distract yourself and wait.. Try not to get worked up. If it is meant for you, it will be.... Hang in there...

It is so hard to tell if you passed or fail. Wait to get results. If you want to be a nurse bad, you will come up with the fee to retest. It is a journey but it is worth it. But pass the NCLEX is one hurdle. Then you have to face looking for jobs. So, keep pushing along....

Hello, Dont give up!!! Keep testing! You may need to a new book. Try Marlene Hurst and a Pathophysiology book. This is what I used and I tested over five times. Don't listen to people that say" you to find your calling". If you passed nursing school, you can conquer the NCLEX. And I tell you it is so worth it....... The money is great and just knowing that you have worked hard at what you are doing. I was out of school for two years... And I still passed. So keep pushing.../

I agree. Where are the JOBS. I mean. the boards a big hurdle to overcome and once that is done. NO ONE WANT to HIRE a new grad. I thought clinical was experience, while in school. Job hunting has been so unbearable. Here I have a RN degree no job offer, bill collectors calling and still getting treated a crumy CNA. This is not FAIR!!!

Keep plucking along. A failure is someone who stops. Everytime I was authorize to TEST, I tested and tested and retested. UNTIL I PASSED.

The union protect people that are not ablew to take a risk. No other place will hire them and nor will they function in another place. DONT APOLOGISE. Learn and move on. You was setting a standard. They need to do their job, you are expected to and so they are too. Best of Luck

Allnurses is a wonderful site that allows me to seek information and get infomation about various issues. It is a safer avenue, beacuse at times you cant trust staff until you get to know them.

Hey whatever you do dont just quit. Give them the respect and give notice. You never know when you will need to go back to that job. I have done it and regret. So, please weigh you situation and leave with smooth edges.

I think it not only the VA, The state hospital is the same way. Bunch of miserable CNAs, and some nurses. They are stagnant in their profession and burnt out. They need to take a risk and try new things, Dont personalize! Just keep your standards high and they will follow the trend.

Wow. I can feel your frustration. Being on two sides once a CNA and now a new nurse. Sometimes the CNA are bitter and they really wished that they could acheive the RN status. So, they play games and fail to realize it is a reflection of their poor CNA work ethics. When I worked as a CNA, I had great respect for my position and did it with pride. But my pet peeve was to have a nurse tell me to do something, when I felt that the nurse should have already keen into what type of CNA I am or for any matter what type of CNA they are working with. I say be consistent. Dont be patronizing and try not to be bothering them so much. Just let the CNA know what you expect and from there if it's not done, take it to the next step. Most of all dont let them see what annoy you. Keep setting the standard.

Well you not the only one.. I tested eight times and man it is very hard to pull yourself up for that loooooow down mood. Especially when you gamble and pay and hoping that it was all worth the pain. And to find out you back to square. Oh well get up do it all again. At least you are finished with school and it just the test you have to PASSS. You can do it...

Wow, I know how EXACTLY you feel. I am on eighth try. And I feel very very discouraged. I did three review courses... Kaplan, Feuer and Anderson. Last three exam I got all 265 near passing and above passing. I also had a tutor and I used different books etc. I really dont know what I am doing wrong. But keep plucking along. You are not the only one.... Best of Luck
