  1. Have you considered relocating?
  2. They called to schedule an interview but I already accepted another offer and finished all my paperwork, wished they called sooner
  3. Budget? Rent apartment or buy a house? Do you mind commuting? You probably won't be in traffic cause the time you start work anyways. A little bit more info would help.
  4. just wait until you have to do your charting on admission and assessments, my friends working there always complain about it when we get together. And yeah med admin sucks especially when you have to freaking call and verify bunch of meds constantly cause you can't read the scribbles.
  5. well if it helps you even more, keep in mind Anderson doesn't have computerized charting which really realllyy sucks lol
  6. I applied to the first posting that had the March 31, 2013 deadline. But received no calls. I applied again hoping I get a call.
  7. its the same one, I guess they reopened those applications again
  8. thx, I interviewed last Thursday with a panel of nurses. I'm trying to follow up but not sure who to contact because they don't post contact info to their HR department online -_-. I was told a decision was to be made either last Friday or Monday (today) but I haven't heard back and not sure who to contact really.
  9. Its all the same at the end of the day the new test is just increase in certain percentage of topic (1%). But the content are still the same its not like they added in some new nursing content.
  10. Hi, I was wondering if anyone is familiar with this hospital? I'm from Houston and have an interview for their GN position with their trauma department. I like to know if anyone is working here and can tell me a little bit about the hospital? Or about the Christus organization as a whole, it'll be nice to hear first hand experience about the organization. I have a couple of job offers for GN position in Houston but they're either med-surg or psych. Trauma is my passion and I am holding off on those offers and I really want this position in Corpus even if I have to relocate. Thanks.
  11. I am in the exact same position as you are. Graduate and passed NCLEX and trying to do extra certification to help me land an interview lol. Im from Houston too. I would stay away from online courses cause they aren't accredited by AHA and thats what hospital look at. You have to be in a 2 day class for 6 hours and skills check list which im dreading.
  12. I cleared my inbox
  13. Don't be so worried about the new NCLEX, my friend used Kaplan Q banks and Trainers for her 3rd attemp on NCLEX April 2 and she passed. She said it wasn't any different from the previous NCLEX that she took and Kaplan helped her passed.
  14. I recently applied to the Northwest and Kingwood GN location hopefully I get a reply soon.
  15. the PVT works I took my Nclex on March 28, 2013 and had the same popup and bought the quick result just to make sure and it said I passed.
  16. Stopped at 75 questions I was done with the test in 30 mins.
  17. Don't worry so much about your scores but just read the rationales and learn how to answer the questions. I only studied for a week and only used Kaplan Q banks and Question trainers right before my NCLEX and passed with 75 questions. I didn't go over content or any of that stuff I just learned from doing the Kaplan questions. My Q1 - 58% Q2 - 60% Q3 - 50% Q4 - 56% Q5 - didn't do was lazy Q6 -56% Q7 - 50% Did not finish this I stopped at question 215 because I started Q7 the night before Nclex at 9pm and when it was 4am I was not done so I needed to get 3 hours of sleep and take my NCLEX at 8AM. So basically I did Q7 but didn't finish and did't even look over the rationales for what I did because I needed to go to sleep. As for the Q banks my average percentage is 50% and I only did 500 questions out of the 1172 questions available. Again I ran out of time to do questions. I felt kaplan prepared me how to answer the questions because I didn't know much content honestly. Any content that I learend was from doing Kaplan questions for 1 week. Kaplan question trainer 6 and 7 were really hard. Nclex questions were wayyyyyy easier.
  18. doesn't seem like that much of a difference in what the test will be besides the passing standard raised a little bit. Just keep studying. Have you tried Kaplan?
  19. 1 week exactly, but I would not recommend it. I am probably the biggest procrastinator in the world. Graduate Dec 15. never really scheduled a test date because I never really started studying. Once I did schedule a test date I kept pushing it back because I never started studying. I rescheduled it up to March 28, 2013 which was today and got the good popup. The only reason I put myself in a situation for a 1 week study is because someone told me about the new April changes a week ago so I wanted to take the test before April. If i didn't know about the new test coming April I'd probably keep rescheduling my NCLEX until next year lol
  20. How soon can I do the pvt? I did it 30min after my test after I left the testing center and got the good pop up is it good or did I do it too soon?
  21. Yes there are sections from the book that aren't on lecture you have to read. I compare all my notes, from lecture notes that I take in class to the ones from my own reading, I do the same when I am studying. As you re-read the book make sure you understand the materials and concepts, do not just read to memorize, trust me you won't do well on the test if you're just reading facts from the book.
  22. I am not sure, but I know 5 people that I talk in school won't be coming back
  23. yeah I know, its harder than when I went to UH for sure, I made mostly A's when taking my pre-req but I have to study a little harder in Nursing school.
  24. What are your current grades so far? Semester 1: Basic Concepts B, Health Assessment B, Patho A, Clinical A Semester 2: Vital Skills (Elective): A, Med Surg 1 B, Pharmacology A, Clinical A Also how many hours do you spend reading and/or studying per week? Well first semester, I was pretty lazy and didn't really adjust to nursing school so I failed all my first exams I was like . Then what I did was read before every lecture, and then read afterwards as well. I don't remember how many hours I studied per week but Fri,Sat,Sun I would start studying at noon until 8pm with short breaks in between of course. Do the instructors provide any note packets? Yes they do, they give you power point slides before their lecture , they will tell you what they are going to cover that they. Right before every test they will give you a blueprint or a guide telling you what topics are going to be covered on the test. The instructor also hold test review sessions right before the test in case you have any questions, you should also attend those because some of them are very helpful. Also do you guys use blackboard system as well? As in web ct? Yes all the notes, quizzes, and things they send out to the class will be through blackboard. Any studying advice for us? Pre-Read before class to get an idea of what lecture is over, sometimes (most of the time) there are pop quiz right when you walk into class. Take good notes in class (be aware though they do not lecture everything that will be on the exam). Make some friends and do a study group, it helps a lot with your studying. Any advice for making it through in the program as you have done so far? Nothing special, just work hard and study hard. You'll feel like there isn't enough time in the week to get everything done because it is pretty overwhelming, but its not that bad. My biggest advice is do not cram a day or two before the test, probably the biggest mistake I made in nursing school. The questions they ask you on the exam are mostly critical thinking, applications etc... answers won't be straight from the book word for word. You are really going to have to think about the questions they ask you and how you apply what you read in a certain situation.
  25. Its going great, I remember being in the same shoes as you guys last year. I'm starting semester 3 this spring lol. Man orientation is going to be very boring for you guys haha.
