LVN to RN STAT
Sorry to hear about your long wait. I just feel I will do better at a "traditional school" I do not know what I would do if I graduated from EC then couldn't get a job. Yes, I am aware ppl have gotten jobs but I do not want to worry about anything. I want to be able to have an option of a new grad program. I paid my annual fee already so who knows. I start Micro tomorrow x 5 weeks then A&P in the fall. I wanted to do all my prereqs at my community college because I do not want any problems when its time to transfer. Good luck !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LVN to RN STAT
It's cheaper if you already have your pre reqs. Also, the books and uniforms are included in the price. If you can get grants, scholarships, etc I am sure it will be well worth it. This is another option for working adults. Community Colleges will not be able to produce enough nurses. I believe there will be more schools like this. I will not be able to attend this school. I can not give up my job at this time. I work in corporate america they do not care too much about me continuing my education LOL. I am doing the work of a RN but I do get paid well. I am enrolled in Excelsior College but I may change schools. Not because of the bad rep Excelsior has had but because I have found a school that will accomadate my work schedule. I do well in a structured environment :> The information I provided may be useful to someone :)

LVN to RN STAT
There is a new LVN to RN program in California. Its 18 months , 2 days per week. Pre reqs are built into the program. I went to the orientation very intersting. The school is WestCoast University. They are BRN certified. They are the 2nd private school in CA to have a program like this. There first class starts 6/29/05. They are admitting 50 LVNS. No waiting list. there is a selection process. Must have a 3.0 GPA, pass the Hesi test 75% , personal interview, etc. They have a new class start every 40 weeks. Its costly... 48,000 but you can apply for Pell Grants A&B, Fasa, private scholarships, etc. Location is in Los Angeles same bulding as the American Career College. cross streets Vermont/Rosewood. You must call to attend the orientation. This school is great for people who do not have a full-time job, can self pay, or their job will support them. Thought I would share. Hopefully there will be more programs like this. Note this is not offered online or independent study. Have a great weekend!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! T

Need Advice On The Excelsior Program

Need Advice.....
Thats just it I will be under her supervison. The Director of the program is doing the interviewing but my employer does not want her to be part of the day to day operations so I have to remain under her. .... Weird... coporate nursing is difficult. They do not play by the same rules as hospitals or clinical settings. Its politics, brown nosing and discrimination. I feel stuck. I am the "go to girl" but everytime someone comes to me or single me out to be promoted its always something. Its like they will not let me go I feel if I quit they will get two nurses to do my job.

Need Advice.....
I feel like she is trying to throw salt in it. I feel like certain individuals do not want me to get this position. I feel like they are blocking me. I applied to the job posting and interviewed... now what. My employer stated they had to post the job internally and externally because they do not want to be sued but I have seen too many co-workers get promotions without the job being posted. I am already doing the job but without the title and salary.

Need Advice.....
I applied for a new position at work. My supervisor had to inform my co-workers of the posting of this position, but she informed them I had applied for this position. Do you think she was right by sharing this with them? Would it be wrong if I went to HR to tell them I do not appreciate what she did? What happened to confidentialty at the workplace........

is RUE a mistake?
Wow I am sorry to hear about your mother's experience. Hopefully she will redo the clinical. All that money will be wasted if she doesn't. Since she knows it was her nerves maybe next time she'll be more relaxed. Congrats on your progress with your RN program. I wish your mom much success with whatever she chooses to do in the future to further her nursing career :)

Excelsior A&P exam...I passed!!!
I love the study groups. I learned of them from EC posters here. I am just starting NC 1. I need to take A&P and Micro. I have taken my prereqs at my local college. This has kept me motivated.I started off with zero prereqs, it has taken me 3 semesters to finish 21 units. Because of reading post like yours and others I have kept going.

Looking 4 other Cali students trying to get into ADN or BSN online programs?
What part of CA do you live???? St. Mary's College in LA has a evening ASN program that I looked into, $512 per unit. M-Th 5:30-9:30, Sat/Sun 6:30am-6:30pm. You go to school 2-3 days during the week. 5 weekends per 8 week course. I have heard Little Company of Mary in Torrance has a program for students enrolled at ElCamino College.

Acceptance of Distance/Online Degrees by Other Colleges and Universities
I find it funny how you love patrolling this thread. I am speaking from experience. Are you even a nurse???? Your still in school, so once you pass your boards then try to spread your knowledge. I think having 8 years of nursing experience I can voice my own 2 cents without you crying out how distance learning students trash traditional students. Is this not a Distance Learning Thread? You always miss the point. Again whatever choice someone makes does not mean their choice is wrong. If I could I would go to a traditional school, but since I make 50,000+ per year as a LVN I am not able to quit my job and take care of 2 kids. So again EC is the right choice for me. I wish I could underline the me. I have reviewed the passing rate for CA schools we'll just leave it at that. When I finished nursing school I was ready. When I say ready I was a charge nurse at 20 years old, then a Nursing Supervisor at 21 years old. I think some people have it. I made sure I got all the experience I needed. I was a CNA then I went through the traditional LVN program. Was I scared when I finished school, no, because I had confidence because of the nursing program I went through. I had caring instructors and a wonderful Director. It was a small of class of 15 so we were able to have that individual training when we needed it. When I post here I do not try to talk down to anyone, but Lizz it seems your always trying to win a battle. I am pretty sure the school you go to for every good thing is said about it you can find a person to say the opposite. I wish you the best once you get your feet wet. As to the thread that I first responded to I was no way trying to degrade your choice of program, I voiced my opinion just like you did. Thank you for your opinion.

Acceptance of Distance/Online Degrees by Other Colleges and Universities
Well I live in CA , the schools out here are not that accommodating. Most schools that offer evening classes are private, well if you have kids and a fulltime job you can not afford loans, etc. I think its fair to say most people do search for these schools, but when unsuccessful they have other options. I have been a LVN x 8 years, make very good money, so I can not afford to give up my fulltime job. I have worked many places so I think I am qualified to say that most RN's I have spoken to admit they did not recieve the proper training, thats why alot hospitals offer New Grade Programs. How can a teacher teach all her/his students. Its usually the student that finds a nice nurse at the hospital to allow the student to get hands on experience. Traditional schools also have low passing rates. I am enrolled at Excelsior their passing rate is as high as CA traditional schools if not higher. So what does that say. No one is seating with the Distance Learning student to take the Boards. I am pretty sure the same NCLEX book(s) is used by students from both learning institutions. I wish you much success with your choice of your nursing school. Maybe later your views will change, because I have a feeling Distance Learning will be more accepting with the 800,000 more nurses needed by 2010.

Waiting, waiting, waiting............
Well do not wait too long... it took me many years When I finally did it, it was almost too late because the state of CA no longer excepts EC graduates as of 12/03. So kick it into gear do whatever you have to. Its your education. I was extemely lucky. I had no pre reqs, but I did have to send my transcripts from my nursing school and a copy of my LVN license, before I new it I was enrolled. I did the payment plan, before I new it I had paid it off. I have no nsg concepts under my belt but I have finished 4 pre reqs already. I will be finished with 6 by 12/04. I am going to start doing my nsg concepts 1/05. I had to get a few pre reqs out of the way. So again do whatever you have to :)
