  1. If CA BRN is not accepting Excelsior grads due to clinical components that does not meet CA requirements, is it safe to say that they have nothing against Deaconess and Indiana State since they have a clinical component with their RN programs? What is the CA requirement as far as clinical hours are concern? Also does anybody know exactly what a preceptorship is? Thanks.
  2. Hi, another question. Do you take your pre reqs at Deaconess also or somewhere else (for thr LPN to RN program)?
  3. Hi, any replies yet on Kate930's questions re: Deaconess clinicals? Am interested to know too because I'm looking at Deaconess as a possibility. Thanks everybody.
  4. Hi, I'm trying to network with other new grads, or almost graduating students of an LVN program who's also looking into an ADN, RN or BSN online course. Other students from other states are also welcome but I'd like to hear from other Californians because it seems BON in Ca. are not accepting Excelsior graduates. I've been researching but so far I've come across Deaconess, RUE, The college network and Indiana State Univ. Don't know yet if they're the same status as Excelsior here in CA. as in banned by BON. All info are welcome. Thanks in advance
  5. My school is the complete opposite. they don't welcome technology at all. I was the first in class to bring a laptop to school and the first to bring a PDA to clinicals. Everybody struggled with writing down the teacher's lectures except for me. It made my life easier. During clinicals, students stuffed all pockets of their uniforms with those pocket size books for procedures, drug guides, plus stethoscopes etc. So you can imagine how many sagging pants we had around clinicals. I had the drug guide, Taber's, Nurse's assessment, Rx diagnosis, careplans and procedure books on my PDA so that's all I had to carry. Plus I bought a pda compatible keyboard that folds and I can type my assessments, careplans while I'm still in the hosp. Also, my pda has a voice recorder so instead of writing down meds or assessment I use the voice recorder. PDAs are amazing! BTW, now there's 4 people in class with laptops and 3 with PDAs and we usually "beam" notes and info in class.
  6. Thanks, maire & rnmi2004 for your replies. I think I'll take it one day at a time and just study while waiting for my test dates. I thought it'll make me feel better to just get it over with but in reality it's making me more anxious that if I fail there's a longer wait to retest. I'll definitely take my time studying. Let me know when you guys take your test and I'll definitely give you updates. Good luck!
  7. I'm graduating soon as an LVN. Waiting list for ADN program is averaging 2 years. I'm in CA right now. Moving to NV in June for a 1 1/2 yrs, then back to CA again. While in NV I was planning on taking either EC or Deacon or even ccconline & Indiana Univ online. It's just more convenient for me and I learn better with independent study than classroom settings. After reading this thread, I felt unsure, mad, confuse and just don't know what to do now. Please, help. I need advise!
  8. I'm graduating in 3 weeks from an LVN class from a adult school in So. Cal. It was part time lasted 22 mos. and i spent approx. $2500 including books, scrubs, other accessories plus $300 or so towards fees for license, fingerprints, school pins & grad ceremony. Good luck!
  9. THis forum is absolutely amazing. :rotfl: I am learning a lot and getting a lot of info. I was told in the beginning of my LVN program (by our instructor) that I should not even contemplate on enrolling in an online/distance learning program (for my RN) because it is a waste of time. Traditional school is not for me since my husband's business (where i help out whenever I can) takes us to different cities or state. One time we had to drive 6 hours straight so I can make it to class on time. Anyways, after reading everybody's post, everybody reached their goals/found success through online courses. You cant imagine how much relief & hope I am feeling right now. But I still have a dilemma, I;m graduating in 3 weeks and probably take my NCLEX in March. Then I want to jump right into an RN program or ADN. From previous postings, some are taking what seems to me pre reqs for RN online. Now, do these online school need to be local to where I live? After I take the pre-reqs (and what are the pre-reqs exactly?) do I have to transfer (and are they transferable) to a community college or another online school like Excelsior? And I read somewhere on this site that CA does not honor Excelsior degree? Does Nevada? We are moving to Vegas for a year and half (d/t husband's business) then moving back to Cali again. A friend told me that if I'm done with my RN program I can transfer my license to Cali. Is thistrue? But doesn't an ADN program takes longer than 1 1/2 yr even online? Sorry too many questions. You guys are making me hype! To anybody who replies, thanks in advance...blowing kisses...i love you all :kiss
  10. Thanks for the reply. I must say the turn around was pretty quick for you. Did you submitted your own paperwork to the state or your school did it for you? I guess I don't mind waiting anymore. After reading a lot of the threads, it seems everybody took their time to study and review for the NCLEX. Is it true if you fail you have to wait for 3 more mos to retake the test? Also, is the Kaplan like a mock board kinda review course? Good luck to you too!
  11. If you feel confident enough that you will pass the test I suggest getting it over with. I'm graduating in 3 weeks but my school told me it will take a month to submit my paperwork to the state and probably two more weeks to get my invitation to test. If I can take the test the day after graduation I'll feel sooo much better. BTW, how long did it take for your school to submit your paper to the board?
  12. I'm graduating in 3 weeks and I want to take the NCLEX LVN exam asap. However, our school said that it will take them a month to submit all necessary paperwork to the board and then i will have to wait for my invitation to test in the mail. Does this mean that I will have to wait for at least 2 months from the time I graduate to getting my license? Is there a shortcut? Can't I just submit my own paperwork to the State? Help please! Thanks.
