  1. tokmom, I graduated from Excelsior ASN program in 2010. There were a lot of "unexpected problems"(obtaining initial licensure) there :-( ( I am half way done with my BSN thru "Chamberlain"). Chamberlain online is "much" better, and "quicker" than Excelsior. So, do yourself a favor, and skip Excelsior, and go directly to "Chamberlain"! I am enjoying every moment there. If you are serious about obtaining your BSN, and willing to put the work in, then you will be successful! You can graduate in a year. However, the only tid bit that I would say, is make sure that you have College Algebra or Statistics completed before enrolling. It will save you in the long run. Otherwise, I give them a perfect score of "100"! Best wishes in your pursuit for your BSN. I hope this helps!
  2. SJ Cory, Your in for a very long wait! They (GBON) had a meeting for the past three days. One would think these meetings would produce better fruit! Did you graduate for Excelsior? If so, you will need to do a preceptor-ship more than likely..One of the rules they should have changed at this latest meeting. Nevertheless, best wishes on receiving it,and Congratulations on passing! One hurdle down, and one to go!
  3. This fee was for a preceptorship for New Grads. This was not the cost for a refresher course. I wanted the correct information posted here as I am the original poster, and this is the fee they quoted me for a 320 hour preceptor-ship. Definitely not worth it in my opinion!!! But, to each his/her own..
  4. ukstudent, Thank you for your post. However, let me restate one of my previous post on another thread. I took my clinicals at Southern Regional in Riverdale, Ga. Mind you, this hospital is said to be the toughest to complete successfully during CPNE. But, I did complete successfully the first time! Moreover, this is a hospital license by the state of Ga. It is even hired by them to be one of there facilities to host these students, and to test them. So, they obviously have confidence in their own Master prepared preceptors..So if in the opinion of their own preceptors that I am a safe functioning nurse and knew everything required to pass, why not issue my license? After all, like you said, they are the one who set the amount of time the students have to complete their clinicals in non-traditional school settings such as Excelsior's, so you would think they would honor their own policy! Perhaps, it's an issue for BBB..
  5. mindlor, HMMMMM is an understatement!!!!!! WHY NOT JUST SAY NO? I AIN'T DOING IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have the right to refuse to do something you no is wrong, or that you no could hurt the patient, or yourself!!!! NO ORDER, NO DEAL!!!!!!!!!! And, what MD, would order something like that? None I presume! And, even if he did, then, say, I am not comfortable with that order, can we try this instead?... By law, you must report any elderly abuse you witness. Be careful! Just my :twocents:.
  6. Well, so much for letting the Professionals handle it! They were a complete waste of my time! Of course , they only had Excelsior's best interest in mind, not mine! So, to anyone else in this situation, hire your own attorney if you can afford to because Excelsior's is just that Excelsior's! Don't waste your precious time with them they won't lift a hand to REALLY help you! IMO! I was so wrong about them! STUDENTS AND NURSES BEWARE! ONE HAVE TO ASK THEIR SELF WHY DID EXCELSIOR EVEN HIRE AN ATTORNEY? USUALLY WE HIRE AN ATTORNEY BECAUSE WE REALIZE WE WILL NEED ONE! THERE SHOULD BE A CHECK AND BALANCE SYSTEM IN PLACE TO MONITOR COLLEGES AND THEIR UNFAIR PRACTICES AND TREATMENT TOWARDS THEIR STUDENTS. WHY ARE THESE SCHOOL GETTING AWAY WITH SUCH ACTIVITIES? ISN'T ENOUGH, ENOUGH?!!!:mad::down::down::down::down:!!!
  7. elkpark, The State Board determines what the requirements are for a school to be acceptable education in their state, or they won't issue you a license. It really isn't the accrediting board..Moreover, how can the same board issue a license to RT, EMT, and the like(nothing against them; I'm just saying), and abandon the seasoned LPN's? Moreover, I graduated form Excelsior's RN program, and it's recognized for being a school of Excellence! So, if it's regionally accredited, and at the time of my enrollment was accepted in my state why shouldn't they along with the school be responsible for accommodating those of us who this affected? Perhaps, if this situation hit a little closer to your neighborhood, you would take a more compassionate stand! . I hope you are a better advocate for your patients than you are for your colleagues. Peace!
  8. I called Excelsior State Board Department to see if they could suggest any hospitals so I could complete my preceptorship hours. And, I was told that I can't help you! Your a graduate, and so your on your on to find your preceptorship hospital. We can only tell you of the two hospitals that have done preceptorships in the past! I stated to them, but they are over crowed. Then, I asked them to suggest others and they would not! So, let me get this straight, they failed to inform me in the beginning that I would even need a preceptorship, they got all my college tuition, exams and cpne monies, and now they are telling me they can't help me! Why weren't they fined for their part of this whole mess of needing a preceptorship? This is a school of Excellence?! Perspective students be aware of the hidden requirements at Excelsior!
  9. Am I the only one that has noticed that the two hospitals that are still doing preceptorships for the open public are over crowed? Medical Center of Central Georgia, and Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah, both have waiting list until March. They have stated that the board is aware of this situation, but has not yet done anything to improve this situation. Here is the thing that I have a problem with. If the State of Georgia requires preceptorship hours, they should also be required to accommodate the people they make take the preceptorship by ensuring that there are many hospitals allowing preceptorships! In my research, I have found that most all of the hospitals in Georgia aren't willing to do preceptorships for the open public. How can the Board require something of us that they aren't even initiating a plan of completion for? Is that really fair? What if the Government was ran that way? Perhaps, people would stand up and take notice then, and say don't just tell us we need more training, but provide the training! Just my opinion!
  10. ARE YOU KIDDING ME PIEDMONT NEWMAN HOSPITAL? CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT THIS HOSPITAL WANTED TO CHARGE ME $15,000 DOLLARS FOR A 320 HOUR PRECEPTORSHIP?! I KID YOU NOT!!!!!!!!!!! NEEDLESS TO SAY, I TOLD THEM TO FORGET THAT!!!!!!!!!! I JUST WANTED TO PUT THIS OUT, SO YOU ALL COULD BE AWARE!!!!!!!
  11. Put the Saunders down. (Although it's good in it's own right). Purchase Sylvia Rayfield's online review and her review, and pharmacology books, as well as Ready to Pass review book and, Sally Lagerquist DVD review. These will serve you well, or at least they did me! Best wishes. I hope this helps.:)
  12. happydrunkcat, and joy1 True. Thanks for pointing that out. That was an invaluable service as well as calling the ECE staff every chance I was allowed with my questions.. But, word to the wise, if you call them with a question then they know what your weaknesses are..For example, Respiratory Management. Don't be to shock if you see it in the actual cpne.. So, do make sure you prepare well for any questions, and or care plans you ask them about, or any suggestions that they make you. I hope this helps.
  13. SegaGN, I have called the Georgia Board of Nursing so much that they have a special ring tone for my call...LOL..Perhaps, that is why they never call back!!!! But, now they are dealing with the attorney's office.. But, even that doesn't seem to be the quick fix...
  14. Hello, This is just a follow up. I turned my case over to the attorneys office about two months ago, and no word yet! I have been waiting patiently, but the waiting is driving me up the wall. What is taking the GBON so long to respond to their letter? Anybody out there had to wait over two months for your license after contacting the attorneys office, and submitting all your information? I see there is a board meeting on the horizon.
  15. Oh, there were some corrections made to Rob's videos, but he mentions those as well. He will send you all the corrections.. The mnemonics are still essential to your passing, or at least it was for me.. He makes it easy to remember all of the critical elements necessary to pass..And, yes, by all means, please do read your ECE study guide and when in doubt it trumps all!
  16. I did Sheri's live review, and her online review. I must say Sheri is the Careplan Queen IMO! She knows her stuff when it comes to careplans, and preparation for cpne. I absolutely loved her online and recommend it without hesistation!! If you want to pass, sign up today. In addition to her online videos, I suggest Rob's mnemonics! They were my life saviors during the actual cpne..He nails all the assessments, and management areas. I also would recommend Ms. Weir's review. She is an ex- examiner. She will work with you one on one until you get it! That is exactly what I needed, and it made all the difference for me! Additionally, I would read the CPNE manual from ECE.. Those examples are worth their weight in gold! I hope this helps.:up:Good luck!
  17. Hi USstudent, I am sorry to hear about your struggle with the NCLEX , but you are NOT alone! So, don't be too hard on your self. You can do this! Just stay with it, and don't give up! I too struggled with the Nclex-RN for several attempts, and finally passed on my third attempt. In hindsight, my advice would be to purchase Sally Lagerquist Dvd's/CD. Watch them completely., I would also recommend Ready to pass study book, and Sylvia Rayfield's online review , and her review books. These are the things that I use on my last attempt when I finally passed. Oh, and the things that I tried prior to passing was Hurst, and Kaplan. They didn't work for me. Forget about all the various review books except the ones mentioned above, and here. Focus on concepts of nursing.. As long as you understand what is normal in the body, and what is not and what happens in either case in the body. They can throw anything at you ,and you will still be able to think about why a certain answer is right or wrong. Sylvia Rayfield has a wonderful pharmacology book! She also has a great review book! I suggest you read them both. I hope this helps, and may God bless you with a pass next time!
  18. About three weeks ago I ended up turning down a job in Jacksonville, because I read on hear a lot of people was complaining about it. It is on the Southside. Well, ever since, I have been looking, but nothing. Now, I am starting to regret that decision. Prayerfully, something else will come along very soon! If you work in Jacksonville, please let me know if your facility is hiring.. Thank you in advance.
  19. nola1202, I am sorry to hear of your troubles at work, but it does seem to go a lot deeper than that! I am not judging you, but I only would like to help. As I read your post, I could just hear your cry! You are a depressed person that may need to be on suicide watch!(Sorry, tough love) When you say you hate your life, I think you mean it! All I would like to say is , life is a gift! A precious gift from our creator God! Love your life, and love living! Turn all your cares over to Jesus for he cares for you! He knows all about your troubles! They won't last always! In regards to the feeling you say you have, it's your intuition! It could be a warning before destruction! Don't let an innocent person be hurt because your hating your life and /or job! Neither because of the short staffing issue! If you have to report this facility to the State, or Department of Labor then do that! But, for God sake do something! Don't just stand there waiting for the dooms day! Yes, we all need a job, but we are nurses first!!!! You won't go wrong if you truly live by this standard!!!! In regards to your meds, watch the side effects! Perhaps, they could be the culprit to the emotional delimina! I pray and hope something I have said has encouraged you to look up, and be proactive, and not reactive! As I just felt compelled to say something to you after reading your post! Lastly, if you don't have a church home, please find a good one, so you could be around positive, loving, and reliable people! Expect things to get better! Expect a change! All you have to do is seek it thru Jesus Christ!!!!! :)
  20. LunahRN, After much debate and research, I think that is what I will do. Mean while, let the attorney fight it out with the GBON. I spoke with his paralegal today and she was amazing! I just wanted so badly to work in my home state, but I have gotten so many job offers this week until finally, I had to wake up and smell the coffee! I will get my Ga license just not in the time frame I had hoped for. But, I am thankful to have many job prospects..I was becoming so stressed out, and that isn't my character. I had to turn it over to the Pros.. Now, I can concentrate on starting a new job, and my BSN program..I am trying to decide between WGU, Chamberlin, and Thomas Edison..(trying to catch up with you girlie! You getting her done!) Congrats, on going back for your MSN..An Officer and Master prepared nurse to be..I guess we know who to borrow from...lol ..Thank you for your reply. It means a lot. Best wishes to you always!
  21. WELL THE SO CALL VERDICT IS IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THEY ARE REQUIRING ME TO TAKE 320 PRECEPTOR-SHIP HOURS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! EVEN THOUGH STARTED THE PROGRAM AS A LPN. OH AND GET THIS, THEY CAN'T EVEN TELL ME WHY THEY DIDN'T EXCEPT MY HOSPITAL EXPERIENCE THAT WAS SENT IN..AND, THE BEST PART IS THEY WOULDN'T EVEN GIVE THE NAMES OF ANY PRECEPTORS OR HOSPITALS THAT WOULD BE INTERESTED IN HELPING ME SEEING THAT I AM A LICENSE FL. RN , AND NOT A STUDENT NURSE... IF THERE IS ANYONE WHO HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT I NEED TO DO FROM HERE, PLEASE ASSIST ME IN COMPLETING THIS TASK! I HAVE DOWN LOADED THE AP FROM THEIR SITE, BUT HAVE NO IDEA WHO TO SEND THEM TO...I EVEN TRIED TO REACH THE OFFICE OF ATT. BELINFANTE. HE WAS UNREACHABLE TODAY...I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO.. THANKS FOR ANY AND ALL REPLIES! HOW LONG WILL THIS TYPE OF PRECEPTOR-SHIP LAST FOR ANY WAY? SHOULD I PASS UP AN RN JOB OPPORTUNITY IN FL. TO COMPLETE THIS PRECEPTOR SHIP IN GA.?
  22. NRSKARENRN, AND jamesc, Thank you both for your responses. They have been very helpful. Yes, I did include employment verification forms . It's been almost 50 days, and still not a word! No updates! And, Excelsior really isn't helping the cause! I may need to hire my own attorney... We shall see!
  23. NRSKarenRN, Thank you for transferring my thread! I didn't realize that there was a Georgia forum here. You have given me more information than I could have ever imagined!!! Thank you!:)
  24. I didn't know they had relocated my thread prior to them doing so. So, I apologize for thumbs down on part two of this post.. Thanks.
  25. segaGN, Thank you for the response. I will do that!!!
