OH yeah, we ran across that too a few times in various semesters. Just tell your instructor you don't have it, hopefully she'll work with you on this. Sometimes pages vary, but just look at the table of contents or the back of the book. One semester we had to do case studies, but even students that paid for the brand new books couldn't access. Some teachers printed them for us to work on if it's for a grade. When we went to the student lab, we ended up watching You Tube videos sometimes :/ I don't remember what the SLS is but we had Elsevier, some didn't have brand new books with access codes. See if you can buy Access only, not sure but might be about $60. what matters most about clinicals is that you as a student seek out all opportunities to learn. no one will take your hand and show you everything, ask questions! get to know your floor. get as much exposure to many different floors, units, hospitals as you can. this is your time to learn. it also depends on what your clinical instructor will let you do (such as admin meds, start ivs, suction traches, start foley catheters, straight catheters, draw blood labs, program the iv machine, pull meds out of the pyxis/accudose, electronic charting or paper charting, accuchek, administer insulin, give im shots, bathe clients, ambulate clients.. do it all! accompany your patients to xray, dialysis, ct scan, echo lab, sonogram, stress test) [but of course, ask your clinical instructor first. get permission from charge nurse, your assigned nurse]... if you are allowed to do so, they will let you. i graduated dec. 2011, completed 2 semesters clinical's at sjh & 2 semesters at tgh, leadership/preceptorship at tgh... it's a combination of you as a student coming to class prepared, know the assigned skills. get to clinicals on time! do your care plans! do your med cards. assess your patients! you dont necessarily need to have brand new books, practice nclex style questions. get kaplan's strategies for nclex study guide, youtube skills if you didn't get the mosby cds. use older edition books you can get from amazon, ebay, craigslist. don't procrastinate, study! nclex made easy is a good book. med surg made easy is also a good book. get flash cards. use iphone apps with nclex questions! good luck :)

i passed! the pvt works... in just over 24 hours i was able to get results on the fl bon website (ss & dob needed). i checked during my lunch break b/c i was a nervous freak & there it was.... "pass". thank you lord!

Nursing people... AllNurses is truly a great thing, I can always come here to vent :) So, I took the test got to about 130 questions then the computer shut down. I passed the PVTrick but will come back to let you know if it worked. Anyone have a similar experience?

Hey. You guys don't really need the newest version of textbooks. I bought the package, barely used the workbooks (even though the package price saved me about $40-60 versus buying all used textbooks from ebay/amazon/craigslist). It's really more of a convenience thing. If you still dont have your package by now.... you can youtube skills & google. I got by with older versions of our psych book, OB book, peds. Start doing NCLEX questions now!!!

Hey there, I'm in NP1 this spring2010 - Just wanted to congratulate you guys! Practice the Med Calculations Chapter 1-8 (just before IVs). You dont get lectured on this, you just get tested on the math the 3rd week of school. I did all the questions from chapter 1-8 and I got all the questions correct. :) I bought the KIT because it ended up cheaper than buying the books individually (even at used prices). I priced out the textbooks (online/BooksnMore/craigslist)- I was only going to save $40 or so. So I figured, might as well get new ones & end up getting study guides & clinical companions. You will use these books until NP4. Except for the Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing Book - evolve forgot to add that to the kit. For those concerned about the latest versions of the books (it doesnt really matter). You will definitely need: Fundamentals of Nursing-Perry & Potter, Med Surg-Lewis, Med Calc, Psych Nursing-Townsend. Thats about it for assigned reading - everything else is supplemental. Theres a Nursing Skills-Mosby CD in the kit, but you can also read about those in the textbook or youtube it. What matters is you understand the context/material. You should really get books on NCLEX Prep Style Questions! Focus on Fundamentals & Med-Surg.

I was wondering if anyone had any advice for NP1 students at HCC.. as far as Critical Thinking techniqes, the nclex end of chapter reveiws are not cutting it for us in class, reading the chapters (knowing all of it - just like studying for A&P), and doing doing the cd practices is not much of a help. I need to figure out this hesi/nclex testing thing quickly. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you, hope you are all doing well.

tee.... HCC Spring 2010, the HESI is worth 35 points out of 350 points for NP1. Any tips? On the 4th exam, they threw all the Critical Thinking questions on us and many students did not do well! Any advice? Help...

Were going on the 2nd week of clinical labs and the instructors did not check our shoes. One student has white Nike Shox. Good luck on your application! My academic advisor/counselor was able to follow up on these things for me(thru email & phone calls). As far as transcripts if the A&R has your HS transcripts that is ok. But for me I submitted my college transcripts to A&R and included it into my application package. Best Wishes!

oh my gosh! thats so sad to hear that. Im in the first week and i am trying to read everything assigned. There's 5 chapters from perry n potter. watching the assigned videos on the mosby dvd's. starting on the clinical calculations (only on ch2) but determined to get thru chapter 8 w/i 2 weeks. all my free time is already on the assigned reading. Any advise is appreciated. Aside from a lot of reading.. what else should i do??? thanks

yeah, started & not even done w/ chapter 40... it is a lot of chapters. I hope that it will not be like that every week! Were we seriously to read all that by Tues/Wed?

congrats to your hubby usf83. I would call now, or tomorrow just to see if they even mailed out your letter. I've emailed the dept before and they replied quickly. If he got in, wouldn't that mean you would get in too if your scores are comparable. Best wishes to you.

I didn't get into either the RN or LPN at phcc. My NET scores are 97 math & 61 reading, 79 composite with a 3.54 gpa. I got 2 denial letters last Friday. I seriously though I had a better chance of getting into phcc vs. hcc. Anyway, I got into HCC-my first choice... I got the letter on Sept. 19th-just blows that it was exactly right after I paid $50(net 2x), $25 phcc applic fee, $25 rn applic fee, $25 lpn applic fee. It's a conspiracy! Congratulations to those that got accepted! For those that didn't get in.. it is tough to get in, period. Just keep trying. That NET I took 2x, but really didnt study. So keep brushing up... next application period requires the TEAS. Best wishes.

I read chapter 1 of Potter/Perry and I found it to be pretty boring also. I'm planning on reading the first 13 chapters by January. I too hope there is a study guide/outline, to help me retain this stuff. I heard through the grapevine (NP2 & NP3 students) not to buy the kit, as we wont be using all of those books. Yet, I dont want to miss out by not having all the books... but then again, I doubt I'll have time to actually read all the books included. So we'll see... any input & advice is appreciated.

wow, great find! kmarie89 ~ i just went online & the cheapest is $18.95. I just bought the Potter/Perry book from an hcc graduate. For $20... she gave me this Fluids&Electrolytes book + the Potter/Perry textbook + study guide. She said she just wanted to help someone starting out.
