I joined the group! even though I'll be doing the upper division class

Is the accelerated summer program different from the upper division one? Also, I don't live in Tampa, and I'm looking for some good apts near the school, any suggestions? :)

I just got accepted into the program, starting May 14th!!! Is anyone else attending here as well? I just signed up for the March 30th general orientation. Also, I will be moving from Gainesville, Fl. Any apartment suggestions?

Thanks CNA Sam! That's really useful. I'm actually writing mine right now. I have a maximum of 2 pages single spaced and I just finished my first page. I'll probably post it once I clean it up. But I'd love to message it to you, if you want to read it and help me out. If you dont mind me asking, was there anything particular that you wrote about, or that stood out? I have a problem being concise. Which I am trying to work on, haha.

Same here! I've written so many different styles, but I just want to know which ones stand out the most positively to the instructors who read it. Its also hard to find people who enjoys reading essays and properly criticizing it! lol.

Hey there everybody!!! I need help! lol, I have a 3.9 GPA HOWEVER, I am not your most articulate writer. I'm actually trying to get into USF's upper division nursing program (University of South Florida). Their grading system consists of 60% GPA and 40% essay. I've noticed a pattern in some threads of students with high GPAs, but they weren't accepted or put on the alt list due to a weak essay. So this is what I would like help with: If you have gotten into a BSN program, what is the writing style. (i.e. is it in Dear _____, format? Or the traditional intro paragraph with 3 body paragraphs, etc.) I just need examples guys, I've tried googling personal statement nursing essays, etc, and it wasnt working for me. Please help me out (and others too), I would greatly appreciate it :) Thank you, Olivia

Hello DDoris! I am applying to USF's BSNUR for Summer 2012. I've noticed on this thread, many people were put on the alt list, regardless of their high GPA. I too have a high GPA, an overall 3.9. However, the essay counts as 40% of being admitted. NOW! I'm so nervous, bc I've never been the most articulate writer! I've tried googling "personal statement nursing essays", etc, but they werent helping me. Hope to hear from you :) -Olivia

So I'll be paying out-of-state tuition for not living in the county? Even though I've been a Fl resident? Huh. I've never heard of that. >.

My husband and I are moving down there to be close to family but we are not confined to one area in Tampa Bay. So we can live anyway we'd like, and I want to be close to school, I just can't decide which one is better yet. I have all my prereqs for both schools, the only problem is that some of the course numbers don't match, so I have to get them approved. I'm not really sure about the LPN job opportunities in Tampa. I don't really want to work in a nursing home, but that seems like the only option, especially for new grads.

Yes I was leaning towards phcc but I'll take whichever one accepts me first. What is NS? I had trouble trying to reach the program manager there, lol. I've heard of the online option but I don't want to slack behind and I enjoy being able to talk with classmates and such.

Hello everyone! I'll be graduating this December with my LPN! Whoo ^.^ I'm nervous about the NCLEX but excited to get this over with. Anyway, I'm moving to Tampa (I live in Pensacola, Fl ) and I can't decide which LPN-to-RN program to choose from: Hillsborough Community College (HCC) or Pasco-Hernando Community College (PHCC)? I would like to know the pros and cons of each college. Also what are the NCLEX pass rates? And opinions of each program for those of you that live in that area and/or have been through the program. I love the idea that PHCC is only 2 semesters long, starting Aug '11 to May '12. I just want to get my RN ASAP. HCC starts May '10 and ends in May of 2012. I know the extra 3 months is to help LPNs to get transitioned over. And I'm wondering if that summer semester is easier? Since it is like a "catching up to speed" class. Thanks! :)

Dear Isiah, This is a little off topic from your original post, but I have a question to ask you. I'll be moving to south Florida this January '11 after I graduate with my LPN and I'm considering HCC or PHCC. I originally wanted to move to Tampa because I have never lived in a big city, lol, so I thought HCC would be a good choice. However PHCC is only two semesters long, vs three at HCC, and it doesn't start till August whereas HCC starts in May (I want to work as an LPN before school). So my question is, assuming you live in that area, could you give me some advice on which program is better? What are your opinions or maybe opinions that you have heard about both programs? What are the pros and cons? Etc. Thank you :) - Olivia ...sorry I thought I was commenting on Isiah's post. Still new to this cite >.

To Finalllydidit, Haha, I'm probably going to end up taking the long route too. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one doing it! Also I have seen the ADN to MSN programs; the only programs I've seen them for are PA, practitioner, and a lot of business related nursing (which I'm not interested in). I was considering CRNA or nurse midwife as a goal. But first, one step at a time!
