Big pay cut at Orlando Health, please help your fellow Nurses
I have wondered for a long time, why the local college I attended would continue to turn out two classes of graduates each year over the last ten years since I graduated, while so few positions were available for the new nurses. Why would schools over produce nursing graduates unless the ones designing the system knew and planned for the time would when cheap nurses would be needed to maintain the system. This was not by accident. If health care is a "right", who are we to complain (sarcasm intended) if our skills are what is the "right" of another human being. Compensation should be the least of our concerns (again, sarcasm intended) Thank the powers that be - the designers of healthcare system being put in place who have been working long and hard behind the scenes for a long time.

Could Obamacare cause a shortage in nursing again
I, for one, have been paying for my own insurance for years now. Due to the ACA, my insurance company has already doubled my premiums (with highter deductibles and co-pays) as well as notifying as of Oct. 1, I will learn of my next increase and choices under ACA. Maybe those of you who have been insured through your employers have not yet personally felt the impact of this law. I will be impacted to the point that I will no longer be able to afford health insurance, and because of family income, will NOT be subsidized by fellow taxpayers. Maybe those voices in Congress are representing people like me??? Maybe??? Please be open to the possibility that there are, in reality, major flaws with this law and that what you call being "bent on making sure this law fails" is about more than that.

Could Obamacare cause a shortage in nursing again
Ha ha, I rarely watch any TV news, so your little FOX news jab is oh so cute! Did you read the full text of the ACA? Kudos to you. Good luck with your government run healthcare. Yes, it is dictated from the government now. And by the way, CNN also reported on the fact that the full negotiations were not open to the public (as candidate Obama had promised us) and was, in fact, behind closed doors with only select members of congress. I just did a websearch, and found the facts for myself. You should do the same.

Could Obamacare cause a shortage in nursing again
Nancy Pelosi said we had to pass the bill so we can find out what's in it. Obama said he would hold the hearings on the bill open to the public on C-span, but he did NOT make that happen. Everything waS done behind closed doors. Who knows what is in the Law? Congress didn't when they voted for it. The devil is in the details, and I think we are in for a rude awakening. Of course, nurses pay and everything else will be dictated by the government.

New national nurses union forms
Look what unions did to the American car industry. It's dead. High pay scale, "cadillac" health benefits, and pensions made American cars overpriced and quality lacking. Look at photos of Detroit, Michigan today for a visual if you need that. Dream on. Bargaining with who and for what? Exactly where is all the money going to magically come from?

MA's in hospitals, replacing RNs ?
Where are you located? Maybe this is the trend to stretch dollars in healthcare. There's no such thing as free universal healthcare, something's got to give somewhere. No way will this new system be able to support the salaries nurses all want to be paid. The money is not there.

Obama Declares Swine Flu a National Emergency
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091024/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_obama_swine_flu excerpt: By PHILIP ELLIOTT, Associated Press Writer Philip Elliott, Associated Press Writer - 1 hr 30 mins ago WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama declared the swine flu outbreak a national emergency, giving his health chief the power to let hospitals move emergency rooms offsite to speed treatment and protect noninfected patients. The declaration, signed Friday night and announced Saturday, comes with the disease more prevalent than ever in the country and production delays undercutting the government's initial, optimistic estimates that as many as 120 million doses of the vaccine could be available by mid-October.

Are you kidding me?

Socialism Is the Best Medicine
http://www.google.com/hostednews/canadianpress/article/ALeqM5jbjzPEY0Y3bvRD335rGu_Z3KXoQw By Jennifer Graham (CP) – 2 days ago SASKATOON — The incoming president of the Canadian Medical Association says this country's health-care system is sick and doctors need to develop a plan to cure it. Dr. Anne Doig says patients are getting less than optimal care and she adds that physicians from across the country - who will gather in Saskatoon on Sunday for their annual meeting - recognize that changes must be made. "We all agree that the system is imploding, we all agree that things are more precarious than perhaps Canadians realize," Doing said in an interview with The Canadian Press.

The French and Dutch do health care right.
Wait 'til you see how much the bureaucracy of government running a healthcare system eats up % of cost in administration. You are in dream land. Nurses, PT, OT, RT, MDs will have NO power. We are healthcare "workers". Government will set your limits of practice and treatments, and you and your patients will have no appeal to decisions. Educate yourself to what's in this "reform". It's called cost cutting and it will be effective. When it is your family member (most likely the very young and the elderly) who doesn't receive treatment, you will wake up.
-
What the president and the ANA says about our health care "reform" UP TO DATE INFO
With one broad stroke, you condemn anyone who questions this "reform". Healthcare "reform" by politicians does not mean they care about the American in the street, either. Visit the house bill: Page 30: A government committee will decide what treatments and benefits you get (and, unlike an insurer, there will be no appeals process) I don't think I like that very much. NO APPEALS. So, you think "healthcare" is bad now, beware of the fine print of what you are backing.

I want to know what nurses think about socialized medicine.
While most American citizens are listening to the "pitchmen" selling us on "reform", read here what's happening: Hospitals agree to massive "savings" (in other words limiting services) Biden announces today http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/07 /06/AR2009070604053.html?hpid=topnews And behind the scenes, Rahm Emmanuel's brother Ezekial, who is a healthcare advisor, discusses in an article with two others, how to ration limited healthcare services (when it's YOUR parent, or infant, you will probably wonder how this happened): http://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(09)60137-9/fulltext (quick subscription required at Lancet to read full article - it's for healthcare) Healthcare coverage does not equal medical care. Be careful what you wish for. Beware of the pitchman.

Being a bi-polar nurse~what's it like?
Before being hired, I had to go through drug testing and disclose any medications I was taking. In that scenerio, the employer would be informed before hiring. Where it goes from there, I'm not sure.

Paramedics are taking our Nursing job!
Obama's healthcare plans call for cuts in medicare, medicaid and an "increase in productivity". If paramedics cost less than nurses, and can legally provide the same services, that would fit the President's goals. The details are *not* in the news on purpose, nurses. The politicians don't want the resistance that happened the first time around when the details came out about Clinton's healthcare plans.

Talking to patients about the health care debate
"Who the heck is putting this nonsense into peoples' heads?" You might want to be certain that this rationing is only a "myth" before you go about discrediting these fears to senior citizens in your professional position. You may want to read Sen. Tom Daschle's writings on his vision of healthcare for our nation. Daschle was Obama's first pick to head up Health and Human Services. You may find out where this "nonsense" is coming from. Look it up for yourself. Do not rely on others for information. Make up your own mind.
