  1. I have registered with Pearson and paid for the test...just curious about how long it takes before I should really start to panic, not that I already am.
  2. How long after your school submitted your information did you have to wait to get your ATT?? Our information was supposed to be sent on 12/3 and I haven't heard anything yet. I know I'm jumping the gun! When did those of you who have a test date get your ATT via e-mail?? TIA!! ~Jessi
  3. In my humble opinion, I think it might be perceived as misleading or confusing. I've worked professionally outside of nursing for a number of years and there aren't many professions that list the degree after your name like we nurses do. I think it is great to list the degree on your resume with you other education experience. I just wouldn't list a non-nursing degree or credential following your name on a resume for which you are applying for a nursing position. The same goes for you applying for a position in your previous field, you wouldn't list your LVN credential following your name on that resume.

  5. Check out http://www.noadn.org. It is the National Organization for Associate Degree Nursing. The NLN may have something as well. They accredit ADN programs. I seem to remember reading something similar to what you are looking for there. If not, check your nursing text. Ours had a little information in it...it was written by Kozier if that helps at all. Hope this helps!
  6. I'm looking at going through Miami University's RN to BSN program and wanted to find out what I can about the program. What kind of reputation does it have in the community? Which location is better Hamilton or Middletown? How much of a time commitment is required? And anything else I haven't thought of that might be helpful. TIA! Jessi
  7. I am in the process of doing just that. I'm leaving a desk job that is very cozy and pays well. My replacement has been hired and I'm starting to get flack from my co-workers and my boss has done all he can do to try to get me to change my mind. It has been tough. Two years ago when I started down the road you are and started taking pre-reqs, going to school was the only thing that kept me sane. My job is boring, nothing rewarding or satisfying about it. Now that it's almost time to close this chapter, I do question what I'm doing. But on the other hand, I have to look out for myself. I know that I will be more fulfilled, happier and in the long run, better off for making the sacrifices I'm making right now. I guess my advice is, you only have to answer to yourself 5, 10, or 15 years down the road. You'll be the one looking in the mirror and you have to do what will make you happy.
  8. I'm not a tax professional and I don't play one on TV but I work for a physician group that frequently uses traveling nurses. As far as I know, unless the "allowance" is paid directly to the hotel/temporary housing vendor instead of directly to you, you will have to report the allowance as income. Anything paid to you above $500 that isn't taxed via regular payroll, the agency will have to submit a 1099 (like a W-2) to you for. Which means you could be stuck with taxes. I'm not sure what the business expense deductions would equate to but I would consult a professional on this one. Start by researching http://www.irs.gov or even call a GOOD accountant. There are quacks out there, like in every profession. If you plan to travel full time, the taxes you'll be "stuck" with could add up. I'm not saying that the agency is lying to you but it doesn't sound right and your best bet in this situation would be to consult the experts.
  9. Do you have an employment contract? I know that here in Ohio we're an at-will state which means that you can leave with no notice if you don't have a contract. It also means you can be fired for no reason and with no advance notice either. If you didn't sign an employment contract, I don't see how they can strong-arm you into staying. I think more than anything, the amount of notice you give is a courtesy, unless you have a contract.
