  1. On that same note, could you name some chemo agents that would require chemo precaution. Methotrexate? Octreotide?
  2. Why does Ambien and a b-blocker magnify the effect of lowering BP and HR, especially when pt's BP and HR were within normal parameter initially?
  3. Let's say you have a bag of PRBC about 370cc. But receive not instructions from the doctor as to how long to infuse the blood. You know the tubing is 10gtts/min. Do you assume the infusion is about 2hrs to get the rate? Then you count the drops to exactly 31 in a minute. This bag is hung to gravity. [(370cc/2hr)*10gtts)\]/60min = 31gtts/min
  4. Do we hold Ace (Diovan, Cozaar, lisinpril) and B-adrenergic blockers (Coreg, metoprolol) prior to transfusion in clients with low baseline BPs (ie 80/40)?
  5. I'm interested in carpooling. I have the night shift 7P-7A. Going from Ventura to Cedars.
  6. Anyone would like to carpool from Cedars Sinai to Ventura, night shift?
  7. Night shift, anyone wants to carpool from Ventura to Cedars Sinai?
  8. 1. afib pt suddenly becomes tachy (140's), what do you do? 2. afib pt suddently have BP 70/40's, what do you do?
  9. What are the some of the most common ways for managing afib?
  10. if a pt stands up and within a minute, his heart rate goes back and from from 113 to 134 to 120 to 144...would you consider that real and report it to the md or wait to see that the hr stabilizes at a certain number, before calling the md?
  11. Same as our hosp
  12. Would like to know what your hosp protocol requires in terms of hep drip documentation?
  13. What is the policy at your hospital re: documentation of amiodarone drip? BPs q15min for 1hr? Documentation of rate qshift? Please share.
  14. I wear sketchers shapups too and my feet still hurt. I have two different types of foot massagers and they have helped me tremendously. One foot massager goes us to my knees and works heaven like an scd. The other one pounds on the bottom of my feet.
  15. Look around you to see how many nurses actually use a stethoscope to assess respiration before documenting pt's respiration.
  16. Morphine reduces pain and also causes vasodilation
  17. How much does it generally cost to take a TNCC review course? After that, how much does it cost to register for the TNCC exam?
  18. I am new graduate as well. Just got certification for ACLS. Considering doing PALS and TNCC soon. $$$$$ is the only issue but I am sure it will make me more marketable as well. Where should I look for the TNCC book?
  19. Does anyone know when the next Cedars Sinai new grad program will kick back up again?
  20. For someone who just recently graduated and just passed the nclex, I am interested in working in an ER. What certification should I focus on obtaining???
  21. Thanks everyone for educating me about medical malpractice insurance for nurses. As a new graduate nurse, I have learned so much from what you all had to say.
  22. Would hold B-blocker Coreg b/c low pulse 39. K+ is slightly elevated. Is KCL necessary? Bun and Creat are elevated. Could possibly cause K to be retained. She also needs to be hydrated due to the high BUN Pt has very low ejection fraction probably due to a.fib. Administering digoxin could help with contractility and CO. PT is a bit low. It's supposed to be 2.5x ctl. for coumadin Dont give her anything that would cause her to aspirate due to dysphagia Since she's s/p for hip replacement, we need to keep her legs from adducting blood test result reveals high dig level
  23. Yes I had to listen to 4 different audio sounds. They wont let you click on the answer selection you choose until you are finished with listening to all answer selections. It wasnt too bad.
  24. I AM NOW A REGISTERED NURSE. Didnt have to pay the $8. Looked it up on the MO board nursing website. Took my exam on Aug 31 and got the result Sept 2. What a lightning speed that is. https://www.nursys.com/
  25. I went to nursing school in MO. I sat for my exam in CA for MO's license. I am glad that when I call the MO board, I got through to them each and every time. When I place a call into the CA's board, my gosh, they either tell me to call back later or put me on hold for hours. Of the many times I call the CA board, I only got through to them once. They were absolutely and tremendously helpful. Now there is a posting on the CA board website that they will be off the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Fridays of every month. Guess we are really in a budget crisis here in CA. Arnold will either "I'll be back" and make it better or be the "terminator" in the crisis situation here. I think I know why the people who took the board exam wont get their letter until 5 or 6 weeks after that. I looked up one of my friends who took the board exam in CA, her name was registered as an RN. She took her exam two weeks ago. I guess this also means CA BRN is not really that slow. My friends who took their exam in MO got their letter within 2 days. I'm waiting for them to send me my letter to my CA address. Not going to pay the $8. :-) Thanks MO. Here's the nursing licensure lookup. http://healthguideusa.org/nursing_license_lookup.htm
