Hi Everyone, I have just been accepted into Georgetown FNP Cohort 22 Spring 2016, I am so excited and wanted to see if anyone else will be in the same cohort. Currently live in California and it would be awesome to have another classmate who is form California as well. I am interested in starting a Facebook page for Cohort 22, let me know if anyone is interested.

I feel really bad for new grads that are looking for work, it has been a nightmare for me trying to find work. I was offered a position today @ Torrance Memorial Medical Center, I have been searching for the past 4 1/2 months. I graduated in January(2011), passed NCLEX March. God is good!!!!!!!!!!

I just wanted to let everyone know that it has been a rough 4 1/2 month searching for a job as a new grad, today I received a phone call from Torrance Memorial Medical Center that I was selected for their new grad program. I am an external applicant with no prior hospital experience, if anyone eles have been selected let me know

Hi Sarah_LTRN, I also had 3 interviews and meet the staff members I thought I had a good chance of being hire but I believe that most of the position @ UCLA is filled by the UD friends or people who already work there. I just wished they would not lead us on, a lot of us new grad do not have much money to fly out to interviews, I would have though a big company like UCLA would use Skpe. I think UCLA is a lot of hype there are a lot of other terrific hospital that new grads can start there career.

Working in a doctors office part time is another option for new grads, if you work part time the pay is higher and this can provide you with a chance to apply for other jobs (hospital) while making an income an gaining some experience. I have had a hard time getting into a new grad program, but I will not give up. I really like this thread, everyone please add on to this thread.

Today was not a good day I received 6 rejection letters all in one day. I am a new graduate looking for work, most of the places I look for work all require 1 or more years of nursing experience. I do not know how I am suppose to gain this nursing experience if no one is willing to hire me. Now on to plan B, I am going to get certified in as many things as I can, I already have ACLS certification now I am going to get EKG, PALS, NRP, certifications. I already have many years of time put into volunteering at several hospitals, I think I am going to start to volunteer my time again. Now it looks like it will probably take me up to one year to get a job as a new grad RN, in the mean time I can get my CNA certification, phlebotomy license, EMT certification and Anesthetic tech certification. I might be able to get a nursing job once I have all of these certifications because obviously having a BSN degree, and a BA in Biology is not enough to become a nurse. If I win the lottery this year I will further my education and eventually get my Ph.D in nursing, I love learning to just give up now. I am advising all of us new graduate RN's having a hard time finding work to brainstorm and have several plans (Plan A,B, C, D....) I think things is going to get worse before they get better and you want to be prepared. After we all get through this awyful storm of unemployment we will come out more resilient and stronger than ever before!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ChurchRN, You are right about presenting a succinct resume, I originally had a horrible resume that was not displaying my talents affectively and as a result I did not get interviews. Once I had my engineer friend who works for a well know company look over my resume, I started a new resume and guess what I started getting interviews. The sad part was during the peak time (Feburary -April) for new grad rn application I was submitting the horrible resume, now I hope I will have more opportunities to submit my new polished resume. I am new to the nurse work world and I am truly a work in progress!!!

I want to say thank you to everyone that responded to my post, this is so helpful and I plan to listen to what was stated on the thread hopefully now I can get hired!!!

I think Iam not getting the job because of how I interview, I think also my problem is putting great emphasis on my biology degree. I do not think people appreciate this degree like how I do, I see this degree as providing me with solid science background which will help me in my nursing careerM From now on I plan not to mention anything about my first degree unless asked. Another thing I think I did was ask this stupid question in all of my interviews "" what is your management style"" thinking back it is a really stupid question to ask, I might come off as arrogant, I am not an arrogant person at all. I have been in school so long, have work hard to earn both degree and now I feel like I a$ being punished. If anyone out there has any advise how I can make these UD like me and see how hard I will be willing to work,let me know

Hi want2banrn, The marker is horrible right now for both BSN and AA new grads. I do not feel anyone is trying to be pessimistic it is just frustrating for us new grad who have loans to pay, worked hard in nursing school, studied hard for NCLEX and now there is no jobs for us. The majority of people who are being hired either know someone of really really luck because there are few openings for new grads. I have two degrees (B.A. Biology and BSN) and my morale is depleting because I can not find a job. I am a very optimistic person want2banrn, and I still have hope that I will find a job soon.

Help!!! I have been on 3 interviews on out of state ($700 lost for the plan ticket and hotel).I wanted to know if I should leave out my second degree(B.A. Biology) because it is not helping me land a job. Also when I am in the interview and they ask me tell me about your self I think I am talking too much, next time I plan to talk less and reveal less about all the wonderful things about myself. I am so frustrated and I do not know what else to do to land a job. I have two degrees, excellent gpa, lots of volunteer experiences. I am getting very scared now about landing a job because I have loans I have to pay. I have also reached the conclusion that it is not what you know but"WHO YOU KNOW." I always thought that critical thinking skills was essential to be an excellent nurse but I guess not.

Hi Oooitzsharon, I have two degrees: First degree is a BA Biology Second degree is a BSN I do not feel that having two degrees help to land a job.

Hi NurseJaneRN, I thought I looked really nice and professional for my interview. I invested in a black blazer, white top, and black pencil skirt from Banana Republic. I think from now on I am not going to dress so nice. There is a saying "never outshine the master", so from now on when I attend interviews I will wear all black attire and tie my hair back. I actually tired wearing all black attire for a job at an adult day care center to help them with maintenance issues, such as taking there medication on time. This is not my ideal job because I have no health benifits, and I am paid very low. I am afraid if I do not find a position in a hospital I will forever be shut out from ever working at a hospital. Apparently the hospitals are turning there backs on new graduate RNs. I thought it would be a good idea if all the new grad RN formed an organization in order to bring attention to the public. In the long run not investing in our new graduate RN will hurt the public, we need to be trained and old nurses need to give the new grad nurse a chance to practice, so the nursing profession

Congratulations KR11, do you have any nursing experience or volunteer experience?

OMG, I just remembered something, during the first interview with the UD she asked me several times: "have you applied to any other place". She mentioned this 3-4 times, then on my 2nd interview when I got a tour of the unit the lady asked me several times:"have you applied to any other places". This should have been a big clue that they were just wasting my time and already knew who they wanted to hire :eek:e. I feel really bad for the per that spent $1,000 when all along the UD knew who they want to hire.

Hi eeyorelove, I am a very honest person and I am always honest with myself. The way things are in California is sad and scary. The same thing happened when I was looking to apply to nursing school. I was very honest with myself and decided I rather attend school on the east coast then have to wait 1-2 years to get into nursing school. It looks like the same thing is happening in trying to fin d work in California. I would advice everyone having a hard time to try applying out of state. This is what I did and I have 2 interviews schedule. I also will probably join either the Air Force or Navy after I gain some nursing experience. Always keep your options open and think about your long term goals. When the older nurses retire, babyboomers flood the health care system all of these hospitals will be begging and pleading for us to come work for them!!! I really commend a forum like allnurses for connecting all the new graduate rns. I often wonder if president Obama is aware about this situation. The couple of people from my class who managed to find work all got hire through a friend. I even heard that this one girl in my class got a position as a case manager, I thought this position required years of experience but guess what she got hire by her friend.

I think you should call and find out, you never know she might hire you!!!

nurseJaneRN thank you for the encouragement, I have been really down today after getting yet another rejection. I keep on thinking "what am I doing wrong". I have 2 degrees and still can not get work, the only way to get work is through nepotisim. If I am grant another interview I think I will wear all black, I keep thinking maybe I am wearing the wrong outfit. I will not wear any makeup just be plain jane. At the end of the day I know I will be a excellent nurse. I am a humble person, caring and love to learn.

I got tired of waiting so I decided to call the UD, she said I did not get the job. I asked her what I could do to improve my chances for next time and she said nothing. I will not apply to UCLA any longer because this is apparently not the way to go to get a job as a new graduate. From my observations they fill the majority of their positions with the internal candidates. I also believe they tend to hire a lot of people from out of state. I will not give up because nursing is my passion and I truly enjoy helping people weather I get paid or not!!! I also believe that when one door closes God opens another door. Good luck to everyone still waiting, I would advice you to call the UD to find out if you got hire. The whole process is so stressful and I am glad it is over so I can now move on.

I also got my rejection email today.
