  1. Well ....easy write her up. Maybe? just maybe she will think twice next time. times are tough jobs are hard to come by. maybe someone should remind Her of those facts. And you are a terrific example of what we RNs do and donot do. Cheers!
  2. I am in California which might be different than Illinois. i work FULL time as a critical care transport nurse. I transport pts from Ers ICUs cath labs etc on drips vents etc. Minimum training 2 years er 2 years icu. Pass a comprehensive exam on ER, ICU, OB, PEDS, trauma ACLS, NRP, And PALS, Drip calculations a and medications. For example we transported a female with HELLP syndrome with pressors , a-line, blood, Propofol. intubated. Just an example . Good luck I LOVE what I do!
  3. A PDA with Critical Care suite, davis' drug hand book, Tabers Med dictionary of course a good cardiology steth. and YOUR BRAIN. i do crit transports of all types of patients cath lab, trauma, SICU, PICU,. etc. So, I have to carry eveything wth me . Good luck and have fun!!
  4. Try the LTV 1000 we use it on ground and air transport.
  5. I am SURE everyone has heard of peanut butter balls phenobarbital!!! And morons for motrin
  6. The lowest Bp i have seen would be on an art line 40/20 pt on pressors heading out the door in septic shock
  7. On a pt with PIH she had Bp of 300/218 was in a coma and later arrested. We saved her newborn though.
  8. Had a unresponsive man ETOH who I knew needed the ER doc to look at. But his comment was that it was just another drunk. I insisted that the man was UNRESPONSIVE you know NO GAG REFLEX. The ER doc continued to neglect my patient. When he finally did come over and cram a tongue blade into the patients throat which caused him to vomit and aspirate. Now the ER doc wanted to intubate my drunk man. He did apologize after, but, the patient ended up with aspiration pneumonia.
  9. Did you forget that you are still a nurse in the ER? Can you still find the time to hold a hand, dry a tear, give a hug, cry with someone, or just be there?
  10. Hi pitbull, I have been a nurse for 18 plus years and have spent most of them on nocs. If you are sick what symptoms do you have, maybe they will pass. also, are you working at the only hospital in your area? If not look around, with your experience you might be able to ge a "easier" shift.
  11. If you want those kind of hours and like helping families in need, try Public Health Nursing. They do not work weekends or nights. You must have a BSN though and A Public Health Nurse Cert. Also, if you have enough experience you could teach. Good Luck
  12. CONSIDERING ALL THE PATIENTS WE SEE AFTER AN ACCIDENT WITH A MOTORCYCLE I WOULD NEVER LET MY SON OR DAUGHTER RIDE ONE.
  13. I use Hazinski's book and have attended several of her lectures. I encourage anyone in PICU to get Gaedeke's book Pediatric and Neonatal Critical care. I is a review book, but an excellent source of information. It can be found on barne's and Nobles' web site. There are other books but, sadly they are out of print. they include Roger's 2 volume set. I hope this helps.
