Day over and I got to pee once, eat while charting, drank a glass of water, and let the doctor walk away from that code thinking he did the work.

No matter how rough your day is, you get to go home at night. The patient on the other hand has some rough days ahead.

16 hr shift... and I finished letting those physicians behind me think they came up with the orders they signed. Silly boys.

Forget the heart. It keeps getting me in trouble. Time to listen to the brain.

"I don't want to talk to any of those doctors. None of them have any idea what is going on. You nurses are the only ones who have shown they give a **** and actually know what's going on around here." Of course I blushed, chuckled, try to give her some assurance in her doctors, but walked away proudly.

Nurse Jackie. Nurse Jackie is my favorite, not in her med stealing or cheating ways OF COURSE, but in her assertiveness and true concern for the patient. She's not afraid to stand up to the doctor when the patient needs something. She gets in there and is up front and gets the job done for the patients best interest. Now I am only in season 1 and I hope the drug stealing, using, and cheating goes away... but she is a great nurse.

Medical ICU 1:2 or 1:1 for CVVH, Therapeutic Hypothermia, Rotoprone 2:1 echmo medical floors 1:5 but going to 1:4

I started out in MICU. I too was so excited but scared. I struggled for a bit. I would go home and think "today was a good day" or "what was I thinking". I have been there almost 2 years. I was on maternity leave for 4 months of that. It worked out. I love it!!!! Just ask 1,000,000 questions everyday! Don't be afraid of sounding stupid. Get involved in everything that is going on in the unit even with other people's patients. Communicate what you are struggling with. There are a lot of great days. You will have struggles. Get to know some nurses well that you feel comfortable even asking the stuff you think you should know. Congrats! It's a great ride! It is such a great job!

I just accepted a position in the CICU / MICU and have orientation this coming Monday. I am soooo excited. I just graduated in May and passed boards in June. I worked two months in a Nursing home where I took care of 32 residents and had just two aids but did all nursing measures on them. It was impossible to give good care and I quit one day without offering my two week notice because the care was just not right. I am so excitedfor this new opprotunity in the ICU.

I was just hired on a ICU unit and start this week. I graduated in May. I live in Indiana. I really didn't think I had a chance but after two interviews and a job shadow I was hired :-) I can't wait to start. So yes it's possible. I just have my ASN too but I am getting my BSN and let them know that. Load you resume with stuff that will make you stand out. The resume and interview are times you should brag on yourself.

I got the good pop up but still waiting for the official. I hope!!! Driving me crazy!!!!

Has anyone ever had it not work? I got the good pop up, but I still don't have my number when people in my class took it yesterday just like I did and they have their number (on the Indiana State License Page... I am talking about)... so it has me worried. I should be able to find out tomorrow morning. Does anyone know when they say 48 hours is it from the time you started the test or ended the test?

According to the trick that is the good pop up. I got it too so I am waiting for verification!

Hope it works. Swore I failed only had 75 questions but I got the good pop up a few hours later. We will see! I can't believe it! I hope it's right!!!

Please keep me in your prayers as I take it next Wednesday! I am so thankful for where the Lord has brought me! I have continually seen him allow things to fall in place! I see so much self doubt on these threads keep your heads up and have confidence in yourselves. If you go into the test thinking you aren't ready and self doubting yourself you are going to do that the whole test and give yourself a struggling chance. When you are self doubting and anxious stop close your eyes and pray that God give you the confidence you need and trust in that!

In Fort Wayne, IN here we have a place called James Medical. Its a uniform place. I would recommend that over the school bookstore. You will have more options. Online is a great place to shop. You can compare prices and get reviews from people who have bought the stuff. I would tell you to try to invest in decent stuff. You dont' have to get top of the line, but especially things like your stethescope you want something that you can hear well at. It's worth the money. I would say one in between $50 to $100 dollars is fine.

I know how you are feeling. I am currently in the Nursing Program. WAIT WAIT WAIT to have a baby. I do know how you are feeling. I am 26 and my husband is 28. We have been married two years and together 8 years. I have two brothers and a sister and they all have kids except me. In one year all three of them have had a baby a few months a part. I have huge baby fever. We are finally going to start trying next month so that I have the child after I am done with school. I am worried about being pregnant during school. Nursing school takes A LOT out of you. I would say either wait to have a child until after school or have the child and wait to get into school at least a year or so after the child is born. There are many people who drop out with young children. I don't have any children as do a lot of people in my program and we all have talked about how there are days you want to walk away from it. I can't imagine how anyone could do it with a newborn unless you are ok with being away from the child a lot. You literally have to study your life away to pass the classes.

DEFINITELY stay with the BSN. Do not drop it for a LPN. It might cost you more, but it WILL make you more money in the long run. You will kick yourself if you drop out of the BSN for the LPN. I am not sure where you are that a LPN makes more then a BSN. It could be the difference of a Nursing home to like a doctors office, but over all in the long run your BSN is going to get you farther in your Nursing Career!

I would say notecards are the BEST memorization. It's what got me my A I needed to get into the nursing program. I spent hours and hours a week on that class. I would prepare yourself. I have to say though. Now that I am in the nursing program I wish I was back in those classes. It does prepare you for the amount of work you are going to have to put into your nursing classes. I made up my own notecards. I put two piles of stuff I knew and stuff I didn't. Then I went throught the ones I didn't until I knew them. Then went through all of them again to make sure I knew the information. It was lots of time, but it was well worth it. Good Luck! Really just depends how you do on memorization how much time you will spend.

I am currently in the program at Fort Wayne. It is very tough, but I will state the same thing I was constantly told, "the first semester is the roughest. It gets way better from there." This is true. Obviously I haven't take NCLEX so I am not sure about all of that. I do think that the teachers are over all very helpful. There is not much help in my opinoin for things like Med/Surg. It's not really anything that can be explained. It's just A LOT of memorization and studying. As for the director. I wouldn't want to get on her bad side, and I have heard stories of things she has said. I've never personally had a problem with her though. Her name starts with a "*" not "*".
