Chances of getting into a CRNA program in NY?
Hi all, Just want everyone's two cents. Clocked 8 months of exp. in a community hospital CCU. Now, I'm an RN in a big-name NYC hospital. I work in the SICU. We predominantly take care of organ transplant patients (livers, occasional kidney, pancreas), open-heart overflow from the CTICUs (CABG's and valves), AAA's, TAVR's, Whipples, Hepatectomy's, etc. Routinely see Swans, a-lines, CVP's. We manage CRRT. And once in a blue moon, our unit will have someone on ECMO (these patient's are usually managed in the MICUs though). I plan on finishing 1-2 full years here. BSN GPA 3.6 (Chemistry, org. chem and science grades are all A's). Will be getting my CCRN in an another month or two. Then I will focus on my GRE. I've heard Columbia and the other NY CRNA programs are EXTREMELY competitive. Will I likely get in the first go around? Anything else I can do to prepare?

Think I have a shot at an ICU job coming out of my program?
Good to know, thank you. I'll definitely look into those hospitals. I'm also going to do a 4-week preceptorship in critical care before I graduate. I'm shooting for NYP.

Think I have a shot at an ICU job coming out of my program?
Hi all, I'll be graduating from the College of Mt. St. Vincent this may. I've been told my college has a good reputation. I also have 3 years of EMS experience as an EMT (BLS), and I have ACLS and PALS. I live in NY, near NYC.

Average CRNA Salary
Is NY a good state for new grads? We only have 4 schools. Also, I heard the average if your work in NYC is 180-200k. Is that with a few years experience? Or are we talkin' decades of exp.?

Do I have a decent shot at getting an ICU job as a new grad?
Bear in mind, I'll be graduating with a BSN, 3 years of EMS experience as an EMT (BLS), and I have ACLS and PALS. FYI, I live in NY, near NYC.

Do people with COPD have compromised immune systems?
Not directly. As said above, corticosteroids suppress the immune response. And Heather beat me to the punch. The damaged cilia throughout the respiratory tract lead to the inability to move secretions. The static mucous secretions within the respiratory system are an ideal breeding ground for bacteria.

How are my chances of getting into a CRNA program looking?
Thank you! I'm surprised; I didn't realize that they'd look at your sci gpa, in particular. My sci gpa is definitely higher. I don't think I've gotten below an A/A- in anything. And correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't it take two years to get your CCRN?

How are my chances of getting into a CRNA program looking?
Hi all, I'm senior nursing student in a BSN program. Upon graduating I'll have my year of chem., 1 semester of organic, Statistics, 3 years of EMT experience (per diem and volunteer), ACLS, and PALS. I live near NYC so I'm hoping to get an ICU job straight out of school. I'm hoping my EMT, ACLS, and PALS will facilitate that. I know obviously Montefiore, Mt. Sinai, or Columbia would be excellent hospitals to get experience from but I'll take any critical care position I can get and switch jobs after getting some initial experience if I have to. My GPA is holding steady at a 3.5 - 3.6. Assuming I can get 1-2 years critical care experience straight out of school, do you think I have a solid shot at getting into one of NY's CRNA programs (Columbia, Albany Medical, Buffalo, or Downstate)??? Also, does my resume look solid enough to get an ICU job, fresh out of school? I've been told it's very difficult as of now.
