  1. I took both A&P and Micro in the same semester. I got B's in both classes. I wouldn't recommend this unless you are very dedicated to your studies. During test time for each class I always felt like I studied for one class more than another. Now that I am in Nursing school, I wish I would have really, really focused more on A&P. Good Luck to you in what ever you decide to do.
  2. Not only did we have to brush classmates teeth but we also feed classmates baby food, and gave each other bed baths (wearing tank tops and shorts) Our teacher wanted to let us having the feeling of being the pt and being totally dependent on someone else. If you are really having issues just talk to your teacher and explain the situation if the problem arises.
  3. Here is what I do to fit in a little me time...I study pretty much all night long, but every hour I take a 15 min break. I check email, facebook and allnurses within those 15 min. So really if I study for 4 hours a night, I would take four 15 min breaks which equals out to be a whole hour. I don't feel so guilty when it is just 15 min. Sometimes there is a thing as reading TOO much, I know with my self I start to not know what I am doing after 4 hours of reading Nursing Fundamentals.
  4. Survived the 1st week of Nursing School --Yippie!!! Another Random thought or Two: For the sake of everything that is holy, WILL YOU PLEASE SHUT UP so that I can hear what the instructor is saying!!! She is probably making a point that will be on the test. How the Heck did you even make it into this program? You can't even follow simple directions for a vocab test!!
  5. Ok have any of you ever watched the comedian Jeff Dunham? Anyways he has a puppet named Achmed The Dead Terrorist, he is a skeleton. Ok we were watching him on comedy centeral one night and Achmed made a joke saying that he was having a bad time and he thought he had Scoliosis. My DH breaks out laughing like it is the FUNNIEST thing he has ever heard. Well I know my husband and I said "Do you know what Scoliosis is?" to which he replied, " Yea it is a flesh eating disorder, Achmed is a skeleton dear, shouldn't you know this being a nursing student?!" And continues to laugh as hard as he can.......Had to set him straight on that one....
  6. I am going into the LPN/RN bridge program this fall. We are also required to have a knee-length lab coat for our OB rotation. Some of us that are shorter don't look so professional in these but it is a requirement!
  7. Thank you for your much needed . I was trying to put a more creative touch on it than just "oh I want to help others". I guess I was trying to relate the fact that my family took care of others and I wanted to do that also (wasn't doing a good job at that obviously :smackingf). I will take in to careful consideration of your wise words and make it a more personal essay. By no means do I think that is what Nursing is about. Sometimes it takes someone you don't know to :trout: because the DH looks at it and says, "Looks fine to me." Thanks once again
  8. i need some help from my fellow nursing members. i am applying for a scholarship to help with nursing school and like most scholarships you must answer an essay question. i would just like everyone's on my essay that i wrote. don't be afraid to speak up and say, "hey this essay really sucks!" keep in mind that it is shorter than most because we only have about half of a page to write it in. oh by the way the topic is "why you want to be a nurse". alright here it goes: on the 27th of june, 2009, my little brother will be deployed, over seas to serve our country. as i look back at the time-line of my family, i realize that serving our country has become an honored tradition. grandfathers, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers, have all served in a branch of the military. i "am" proud of what sacrifices they have "gave for other's". the feeling of serving our country must run deep in my family's veins, because i also have the yearning, in my heart to serve people! this is my way of giving back to my country and man kind. if i can just help one person live, then i will have done more than i ever thought i could do. so, while my brother is on the front lines defending our country, i will be also fighting my own battle of becoming the best nurse i can be. so what do you think or ? i am trying not to be too cheesy but put some feeling into it. thanks in advance for taking the time to help me out
  9. In high school I career-shadowed a nurse. One of the first patients that she took care of had really bad lung cancer from smoking. I will never forget him. He starting to cough and it sounded like he was drowning. We went in there to help him and he started to projectile cough bits and pieces of tissue which I know were not blood clots. So I asked the nurse what it was and she said that he was literally coughing up his own lungs. He passed away later that night. So thanks to him I will NEVER ever smoke!!!
  10. Hi My CNA class starts on June 8th. We go Monday - Thursday 8:00 a.m. -12:30 p.m. We end the class July 24th. So that is roughly 7 weeks. We also have 10 people in our class with 1 instructor. Good Luck to all!
  11. If you can pass a pre-employment physical than your weight should not be an issue.
  12. I don't think you are over reacting at all!! We were supposed to get ours the 3rd week of April, then our nursing division chairwoman resigned. So it wasn't until the 2 week of May that it came! But everyday I would wait and wait for the mail to get there just in case. Then I ripped it open and Congrats!! I called/texted everyone I knew, then went out for a girls night out!!! I figure that I need a few good nights to celebrate because once I start in Aug, I am going to breathe, sleep and eat nursing school!!! It is a big deal!!! To some this is the determining factor on how the next few years of their lives go!!
  13. :yeahthat: Is why I strive to be an A student. You never know when or where your grades in school could come back to haunt you. I have this thought also. What if I want to become more than a "plain jane" RN? Such as going into a specialty or getting a Masters Degree. I would hope that the grades that I earned would show that I am competent enough to advance in my career.
  14. I think that you made your mind up already when you say "nursing isn't my passion" and that "I don't care anymore". Maybe you should take your instructors advise and try CNA.
  15. I would take and use all the advice given to you! I just took A & P 1 this spring and for the first few chapters we discussed was chemistry and simple biology! I have been out of school for just the last 5 years and those chapters were a struggle for me! It is hard to pay attention to a lecture when you don't really understand all of it! Also some good advice that was recently posted about on here, is trying to find a podcast on Itunes about it, you could probably find a lecture about simple chemistry. I am taking A & P 2 this summer and have already started listening some of the lectures. PLUS these are FREE! Also when you get your book read for the class read the first few chapters before class. Good Luck!
