  1. You took this job because you couldn't find one with more hours, let alone full-time. I say, give yourself more time to settle in. It is more helpful to you to get a few days straight in a row then you can get into a routine easier and begin to feel more at ease. It does get easier though. I remember feeling just the way you describe, going home and crying about how impatient the patients were with my slowness at the med.pass and dealing with the families. You can politely ask families that you will address their questions after you're done passing your meds. As a new nurse you should be allowed to seek support from your supervisor in dealing with too many new issues that may come upon you at the same time. Hope this helps a little!
  2. I have thought about trying Hospice home care, but don't know to get into it ? Any thoughts? I too, take Mthx. ,used to take Enbrel. I also take prednisone 5 mg. and will be starting Arava. My thoughts on R.A. are that there should not be significant pain/swelling daily. Meds. need adjustments if there is. How long have you had R.A.? Michelle
  3. Thank you for sharing your story. Are there nurse's aides that help you with the bath ?
  4. Wow ! I have the same idea and question. What have you heard elsewhere as I see no other responses yeton here.
  5. Thanks for the inf. Wish I could gather like minded nurses for a program like that ! !
  6. Interesting. You said you attended their program. You don't remember what you spent and was it held in Mass. ? I'm very interested in checking it out. Thanks.
  7. Hi Crabbypatty, I'm right there with you with the FM, restless leg syn., cold hands/feet And ADD !! I also have RA, Hidradenitis, Chronic MRSA infections and a small host of other stuff. Thanks for your post and all the links you shared, I can't wait to check it out and have a look see. Look forward to chatting with you again at more length another time, my Trazodone is kicking in ! night-- night ...
  8. In addition to the advice from previous posters, Never judge, compassion always and don't assume anything !
  9. Having been out of Nursing and even further away from hospital work, I do appreciate any input. UKstudent, After reading your reply wondering if you can explain something further? Does having mrsa whether colonized or not mean that anytime there is a skin infection it will always automatically be positive for mrsa ? Requiring ABT of some type,as mrsa is a potentially deadly bacteria ? I read it is often recommended that "high risk" patients that present themselves to the emergency dept. be tested for mrsa ? Who are these "high risk" patients ? And who are the individuals that require 8-12 weeks? of I.V. Vancomycin therapy ?
  10. Okay I'll admit it I'm confused about the uses of the definitions of "colonization" , "colonized" "decolonized" ? "uncolonized". As I notice them sometimes used backwards , and this way and that way. Please Someone help me with this !! Does decolonized mean infection free ? What causes a healthy young person to contract an active mrsa+ infection ? Who are the high risk patients that it's said to be suggested these individuals be tested for mrsa ? Can healthy individuals who tested positive at one time, suddenly come down with an active mrsa infection ? Thanks for your answers in advance !
  11. Wow, I just read your post because it picqued (sp)? my curiosity. I have had a very similiar situation , which recurred a month later. ? Mine was found to be MRSA+... I'm also an RN. And I did also notice your post is an older one...oops.(May 2010) Please let me know how you're doing now ? And how's your baby doing ? God Bless and Hugs.
  12. To PRESLA, Maybe bt now you have noticed the Recovery and Nurses forum on this site?
  13. You are all in my prayers for all your courage and strength are to be applauded. I was dx'd in 2006 w/ R.A. and last year dx'd w/ F.M. and have a wait for a disability hearing sometime in 2011. (Please God make it so) Anxiety related itchy skin eruptions, infections and scars also plaque(sp) me.And Lately I'm on and off my Meth.,and Enbrel due to this. I recovered from an alcohol addiction in 2008,but of course not without a tremendous amount of struggle. My Rheumy. retired in the summer and I have met w/her replacement once so far. It seems as if my tolerence for meds. have changed in such a way that previous doses of meds. such as Robaxin or flexeril don't help me like they used to. I can take Percocet one tab. every 12 hours if needed, which I've never abused. And I've needed to take it lately, but one is not effective for me. I now have the state insurance and have my appmnts. at the hospital clinic(luckily is manned by my doctors group). I must really pray hard and frequently because my next appmnt.is not until January 12. I don't want this new doc. to think I'm a "drugseeker"!!` Tough it up.. I will and I'll also have all my questions/concerns written down for the new doc. !!
  14. Hi Granny65, Thanks for your reply. I'm wondering what happens in a hearing and did your attorney get paid a set percentage of your total amount owed you? And did you hire her/him just for the hearing? Does having an attorney make it easier to actually get a hearing date and a positive outcome? I'm 53, w/cognitive/memory impairments (both ST/LT)severe anxiety, depression(three antidepressants) recovered alcoholic with R.A. and Fibromyalgia, moderate degen. cervical disc disease, scoliosis and some other lesser skin/allergy things. And Menopause is treating me poorly! I'm struggling to pay my rent,my 77 year old father helped me w/ two months. It killed me to ask him and can't keep doing it. I have no one else to help my son(17yr old) and myself. I work per diem for $10 an hour doing food demo work. And am on the last few weeks of unemployment from a nursing job from 2009. Thanks for listening. Congratulations on your new life!
  15. Hi everybody! Just hoping I can get a few glimpses of hope with maybe some help w/ understanding how long it takes for a hearing to be scheduled since I've been denied twice and am waiting on a letter of notification with info.on a hearing date, etc.. I filed the most recent information in July and have heard not a thing. And does anyone know what happens exactly in a hearing ? Should I get an attorney for this? Thanks so much.
  16. I'm from CT. with a sobriety date of July 5, 2008. Alcohol was my demon. I placed myself in detox./rehab. in July 4,2008, after being fired from my job of 4 years for continual absences related to my drinking. I did not lose my license and found a new job in January 2009 but was terminated after 2 months due to "not meeting the job requirements". And I found another job lasting 1 month in which that job was not a good fit for me. I'm still sober, on unemployment and looking for work again trying to compete with a younger generation with newer skills! Any words of advice ? ?
  17. Hi everyone, I need a little help! What kind of questions will be asked of me? Even though I have not done this type of nursing I do have many years of LTC and hospital experience to draw on. The job entails supervision / staff education at a small number of residential group homes. What types of questions should I be asking of them ? Such as on call responsibilities? and ?? I have done my research on their history, philosphosy (sp) locations , funding and such. Any help, ideas I would so much appreciate!! thanks in advance! My interview is at noon Thursday. Michelle:nurse:
  18. Hi all, I'm an RN who needs to file but unsure about the paperwork. Does the doctors office help w/ this ? I've applied for health insurance for my son and myself though the state and they'll allow $ 17.00 a month for food stamps . Been on unemployment since September. And any ideas how single mothers can live on disability would be greatly appreciated ... I'm very frightened about all of it. thx in advance !
  19. Hi to Dez ! Keep up all the great work ! I too was hanging on by a tiny thread watching my life crumble around me. Get all the information you need about this disease. It's extremely sad that many health care providers, mental health providers, insurance companies, and boards of nursing have only the amount of knowledge that could fill a large thimble. It keeps getting better as long as you keep your recovery first above all else ! Michelle :)
  20. Hi, I'm going to an interview and I've never been a hospice nurse. What are some ways I can impress them and to also let them know that I have a genuine desire to step up to the challenge. Any input would be great and hopefully soon ! Thanks so much.
  21. Thanks Jack, I really appreciated your story and Bravo !!
  22. Hi all, Wondering if there is such a thing as a Secret Black list ? And what type of issues can put a nurse on this list ? I've been doing all the grueling footwork involved in my job search and feel as if I'm just losing all hope and have never felt so depressed..I can barely get out of bed. I'm a single mother of a teen and i'm in my 50's. Please help me it feels like God has deserted me.
  23. Thanks for your reply Jack. I didn't use mind damaging chemicals dangerously until I was about 40. Many don't believe me they think everyone starts at 12 ish and on. But What I would like to know from you is when can I start to see my way through the rubble I created ?
  24. It goes beyond eating right, exercising and doing everything in moderation. It seems our ever evolving technology is killing us, from the food we find in the supermarkets,to the microwaves and our cell-phones. I think most doctors are controlled by the mixed greed found within the A.M.A.,the big insurance industry, the pharmaceutical industry and the attorneys. If we are too healthy they all get paid less!
  25. You have nothing to lose if you apply for that open position. I would be wary, however,as to why the position has not been filled yet. Any way that you can be a detective?
