First day of nursing School *unleashed* post yours
Well, I would have to say nursing school is HARD! My first day was on Monday and we had a miniquiz on Tuesday. I passed the miniquiz with a 90%, but that was only after reading the chapters 3 times. There was another quiz on Thursday which I failed horribly . I don't know what went wrong, I read the chapters but I guess I got lazy thinking that it wasn't going to be that hard to pass because of my 90% on the first quiz. Reality sunk in very quickly and now I am readind, reading, reading! We had our first skills check Wednesday on hand washing and applying PPE and I pased that fine. There is another miniquiz on Monday, and a Math quiz on Wednesday. We also have a big quiz next Thursday, it's alot of information to try and understand within a short amount of time. Well I will keep you guys posted! Good Luck!

Advice please, confused
I couldn't imagine attending a nursing school that costs $28,000 a year! It is not medical school and nurses don't make nearly as much as doctors, it would take many many years to pay this off, even with overtime. I had to wait two semesters at my Community College to start, but it beats paying that huge amount of money. The total price for our program is around $7,000, so it was definitely worth the wait! My program is only an ADN program, but after I complete this program I will transfer to a four year university. The price still wouldn't be as high as that school.

Any One Starting NS This Summer? Shout Out!
I start classes May 11, and it will be four days a week. We only have clinicals 3 weeks at an LTC facility the first term which I am bumbed about, I thought we would get more on hands training at an actual facility this term. On Fridays and Sundays the school opens the lab for us to practice if we would like. I am just ready to dive right in, then again I wonder how are we supposed to learn all of the information with so many books to study from:banghead: !

ADN Weekly Schedule - Nursing classes only
I don't start NS until next month, but here is how my schedule is going to look: MW 9-12 Seminar class TR 10-5 Theory 10-12 Lunch 12-1 Clinical 2-5 Fridays are free but students are encouraged to go to skills lab to practice becaues there won't be time to practice your skills in class. The skills lab is also open on Sundays for us to practice. The instructors told us that we belong to them for the next two years and from what I have read on some of the posts here it may very well be true !

Orlando nurses "know" who graduated from VCC versus who graduated from UCF?
I also attend VCC and I start their nursing program next month. VCC's nursing program is only an ADN program, while UCF has a Bachelor program. I believe that the bachelor programs focuses more on the mangerial side of nursing, and the ADN programs focus more on the hands on experience. Personally, I would prefer to attend an ADN program initially and then maybe transfer to a university. The managerial aspect is not going to help you in direct patient care, so maybe VCC nurse's seem to have more knowledge and don't have to be told everything to do. Congrats on getting in I believe you made an excellent choice:D!

I Finally Got ACCEPTED in Nursing school!!!!
:yeah:Congrats! I start NS in May also, good luck!

Anyone starting in May?
I'm starting classes in May:yeah:! In the meantime I am finishing up classes for my AA degree. Orientation was on the 16th and boy was everyone excited and scared at the sametime. They warned us that the summer session moves at a greater pace because the weeks are shorter, but the information is the same. The instructors told us to spend quality time with our loved ones because for the next two years we are going to eat, sleep, and dream about nursing. We only have three weeks of clinicals in nursing 1 at a LTC facility. I purchased one of my books so I can get a head start on things, and my school(VCC) has a website for nursing students that includes skills videos for us to see at anytime. Overall I am excited, but based on what I have read on allnurses that will soon change:chuckle. Sorry so long! Good luck in your program:nurse:!

How old were you when you began nursing school?
I will be 31 when I start in May and 32 when I graduate.

born with heart outside of body! fascinating video
Great story! It really makes you appreciate life . Thanks for sharing!

Has any one attended Keiser Univer.
I have to agree the nursing program seems to be very expensive. I will be attending VCC in May and it is a 18 month program which costs around 8 thousand without pre-reqs. I guess if you want to finish sooner than that attending Keiser won't be that bad. Honestly, who wants to be stuck paying back 40,000 for 20 years .

Wait List for Valencia Community College?
Thanks! It was a 3.25, the science courses really took a toll on my gpa. AP1 was okay but AP2 really kicked my butt . I loved micro though, professor Locasio rocks:bow: ! Good Luck with your studies :typing future nurse:nurse:.

Wait List for Valencia Community College?
I attend VCC now and I had to wait out two semesters before I start the nursing program. I applied at the end of the summer semester last year and I won't be starting until May:yeah:. From what I have heard the wait used to be alot longer, and I think that is because you only need a 2.5 gpa to get accepted.

STUDY TIPS
I also watched the study tips vid by Itzcecile, she rocks:bow:! Her study tips are great and they are working for me:yeah:.

blah... i thought that nursing school was not going to be this hard!!!
Wow CSantos I start ns in a few months and I hope I don't experience the same thing. You are a good student and I think the choice of refusing to socialize with the other students was a good one. Good Luck!:wink2:

What to wear for Pre-Orientation Meeting
My orientation was Monday and we were required to dress professional. Definitely no jeans!

Fafsa question....
I thought if you were an independent student it wasn't required for you to answer questions pertaining to your parents income. If you are a dependent student then your parents income is calculated, and depending on their gross income it may prevent you from getting financial aid. You may want to double check with your school just to be sure.

Nervous and Excited--I'm in: now what?
I am going for my ADN, but while I wait I am finishing up courses for my aa degree so I can transfer to a university where I will eventually get a masters degree :).
