New grad RN can't find a job, HELP!
Some hospitals have programs at certain times of the year to hire new grads. You have to be proactive and know when they are since positions for new grads are competitive. There is a shortage of nurses, but it seems for experienced nurses.

Womens interest in male nurses
I'm a male, straight, and I've been told that I'm stock build. Yes, I hear stereotypes that male in nursing field are mostly gay, but it's not true when they hear that I'm a male nurse. The field is rapidly changing, and I see all types of men, and they are not all gay. Just be proud of who you are.

Do nurses talk about their patients when the leave
Everyone has imperfections. No one's perfect. I don't think stretch marks, or any other imperfection will be a concern since nurses are really busy and are there to take care of the patients. It's a professional job. However, if you won't let them take the BP on your arms, it can bring attention. There are other places to take BP also.

BSN - easier job search for new grads?
It's happening in Philadelphia also. It seems that it doesn't matter if you have a BSN or ADN. There so many openings, but all for experienced nurses. Therefore, BSN new grad are also having a hard time find jobs as well as ADN.

Male Nurses/female Patients
When I did my clinicals, I always introduce myself as a nurse, and let them know what I'll be doing, especially when it comes to hygiene. Most of the female patients I had were fine with perennial hygiene or wiping their bottom. I only had 1 female patient that requested a female nurse to do the job. Other than that, I had no problem. I mean I don't see anything wrong with a female nurse taking care of a male patient.

Where to work as a nursing student...?
Sometimes, hospitals and other settings offer externship. Either you can call or check out the website to see how to apply. I think you have to finish 1 semester of school first. But it's a great experience, and looks great on your resume.

oh, so you're studying to be a "male" nurse...
When I told my friends and family that I was going to be a nurse, the first that comes out their mouth was "Gaylord Focker". I ignored it. Other people will say "That's a good field to get into as a male". I didn't know what that meant. However, you'll be surprised how many males I know are getting into nursing. It's changing.

New Grad.....How long?
Don't give up. It's still good that you got a job at a nursing home. It's still experience! I know my professor use to tell us what their first jobs were, and some had home health, nursing homes, and even prison! It's still an experience, and they're successful now. Learn as much as you can, and keep applying while you're working. Even getting a BSN won't hurt, it shows that you're active in educating yourself. I'm sure you'll get the job you want, just don't lose that spirit.

Good Samaritans
I was really upset when I heard the story on the news about the good samaritan getting sued. What is this world coming to? Now we won't be helping each other out because we're afraid that we might lose our house or property from being sued. I don't get it. I hope they work something out to revise the good samaritan law so we can be more protected. This new law will discourage people from helping each other out. We might as well think about charities, and not donate because of fear of getting sued!
- Why did you take up nursing? What's your story?

what are the best mens scrubs you have found?
The scrubs I ordered is Dickies. They're pretty comfortable, and fits well. Not tight or anything like the unisex scrubs. Good price also.

An Associates Degree Isn't A Real Nursing Degree...Vent!!
First congratulations on passing nursing school! I also have an ADN, but honestly in hospitals, we're still all RNs regardless if you had a BSN or hospital degree. I mean we all took the same NCLEX. Don't let this get to you. There is really no difference. I plan on getting a BSN, but I'm also proud that I am RN with a ADN. At least I saved some money, and not had to pay for a 4 year school.

Scared Of Poop!!!!!!!!! Help!!!!!!!
The first patient I dealt with had C-diff, and the smell was horrific. I almost threw up. The smell felt like it was on me, and I couldn't wait to go home and take a shower. It's part of being a nurse. This is what we have to do for patient's hygene. You just have to not think about it, hold your breath, and clean as much as possible. I think once you get used to it, it won't bother you as much.

Scanning meds/computer charting
I did my clinical rotation at a hospital that just started to scan the meds and patient's bracelet on wheels, and it's a pain in the butt! It took so much time, that one patient who needed his pain med so badly, kept screaming in agony because he couldn't wait. I felt so bad for him, that all I could do was comfort him. I hope that this improves over time. I know that some hospitals who just received them, is new for everyone, and nurses need to be trained, so it takes some time.

Can't Find a job!!! This wasn't supposed to be this hard!
This has been happening in Philadelphia also. I'm in nursing school, and I know few of my friends who already graduated and got their RN since this summer, and still can't find jobs! All the hospitals say they don't hire new grads. So finally one of my friend got a job at the prison, and the other at home health. I guess sometimes you have to keep options open other than hospitals. I don't get it either. They say that there's a shortage, but it doesn't seem like it when you graduate and can't find a job.
